I have been training consistently at AFD for about 5 years now. The instructors are highly skilled, knowledgeable and very safety aware. The classes range from beginner to advanced and cover many subjects including, beginner basics for pistol or rifle, low light classes, scenario based classes, ladies night and much more. We like it so much, we decided to buy a membership because of the great benefits. Skilled or beginner, I highly recommend American Freedom Defense, you will learn something new and sharpen your skills.

One of the best learning experiences we've ever had. One weekend, 11 participants, part classroom and part range...what a blast! Everyone LOVED it and excited for the next session. BOOK IT...Jim and Amy are the best! Professional and wonderful people.

My wife and I just completed the Idaho Enhanced Concealed Carry (handgun 1) class from AFD. It was an amazing experience. We learned about range safety, the laws surrounding self defense incidents in Idaho, a little bit about defensive maneuvers, and did some pretty awesome training. Jim and Amy are both great teachers. They gave me some pointers that have improved my shooting quite a bit. I would highly recommend that anyone who is interested in self-defense take this course. I plan on signing up for handgun 2 sometime in the near future.

My experience was top notch. The professional consistency is key with any small business and they proved to be superior, even on a Sunday! I enjoyed the entry level classes I needed to get my skills off of the ground. They are ultra patient and helpful, thanks a lot!!!

Great facility! Prices are affordable to the average person. The instructor/owners, Jim & Amy are friendly and approachable. They are also highly competent. they talk the talk but they both walk the walk. My only complaint is that it took me so long to discover AFD! All that training time missed... This place is a treasure for shooters and we are blessed to have them call Idaho County home. Highly recommended!

Me and my wife attended a training course with AFD that was hosted at Mackay Bar Ranch. I was imagining just a low key class to aquire our CWP but Jim and Amy gave us so much more. They taught us what was required to get the CWP and then they stepped it up a notch and had us do some shooting and reloading under stress, how to properly draw our firearms from the holsters and even some shooting in a hostage situation. I can definitely say we learned a ton and feel more confident with our firearms and we had a blast while doing it. Not only are they good instructors, they are excellent teachers. I personally watched Jim helping the guy next to me. The guy had never shot a gun before and was having a hard time hitting the target but in about 15 minutes with Jim's help he was hitting center of mass and was much more comfortable. I didn't know it was possible to train someone that quick. So with that being said, if your a beginner or a seasoned pro, I'd strongly recommend attending some classes with AFD. Thank you Jim and Amy for an amazing class and a unforgettable weekend.

I attended a special event hosted at Mackay Bar Ranch called a Wilderness Weapons Retreat where Jim and Amy Gorges conducted a firearms training course for a group of guests who opted to participate in the getaway weekend. While I grew up in a household of guns, and have always been around guns, I knew that my skill set lacked proper safety and handling of a firearm, especially if in a situation where use of deadly force may be necessary. I encourage anyone - men or women - who desire to enhance their skill set and use of weapons to consider a course with AFD. Jim Gorges, certified instructor, and his wife Amy are exceptional professionals. They impart awesome guidance and knowledge to their group of students, a mixed group of beginners as well as a few more advanced shooters. I never expected to become "fired up" with a desire to pursue more advanced levels of firearms training, but the course by AFD inspired me to evolve in a way that might protect myself or the life of a loved one in the use of deadly force. Jim and Amy of American Freedom Defense deserve the highest rating for their excellence instructing this course. Highly recommended.
