Baker Draw Designated Shooting Area

Q: Is it open while the state mandate fire ban?
A: Yes
- Chaser (4 years ago)
Q: Do they close for winter??
A: no
- David White (4 years ago)
Q: Is this open during the government shutdown
A: Yes, it is open, SO FAR! The abuse it is taking will probably get it closed. Ignorant people are making it an unsafe place to be!!!
- Dick Riner (6 years ago)
A: We went on labor day and it was packed. So much trash and casing's everywhere (try to pickup your shell cases)
- Colin Erskine (4 years ago)
A: Unsure. Have not tried to check it out. I imagine the area is open while bathrooms are closed. But there is public land near by to shoot on, be respectful & responsible, if it is closed.
- Mr J (6 years ago)
Q: Do i need a code to get in at the range or do I just drive in in to the range
A: No code or fee needed. Just drive up and walk in
- John Keller (7 months ago)
A: Thx 👍🙏😇 have blessed day
- Tana (7 months ago)
Q: Who Do i call to find out if they are open?
A: You gotta drive out there to see. There's nobody manning a station or gate out there.
- Colin Erskine (4 years ago)
Q: Are dogs allowed?
A: I wouldn't think they would be allowed at the range area for safety reasons. In your vehicle, yes. There is ample space elswhere in the Pawnee. It's a gun range, not a dog park. Keep the pupper's ears safe.
- Eric and Sarah Rosenburg (5 years ago)
A: I would say they are also allowed but I wouldn't even keep them in my car, it's very loud even if you're in a vehicle.
- Colin Erskine (5 years ago)
Q: Is the range big enough for a 338 Lapua, what's the longest range there?
A: Three ranges. 25yd 50yd and 100yd. It's your call if that is long enough for your rifle. I don't believe range it big enough for a 308, 30-30 and a 30-06 so in my opinion 100yd is not long enough to really make your 338 Lapua really perform.
- Mr J (6 years ago)
A: 100 yds I believe
- Colton Burns (3 years ago)
Q: Do you need a code to get in or just drive to the range
A: There's no code it's open to the public national grasslands it is controlled by rangers so behave please clean up your trash and you have an amazing time
- Oicu 812 (7 months ago)
A: No! You don't need that. Just be careful as you're driving in due to some bumps
- Martin Hernandez (7 months ago)
Q: Why did they remove the outhouses?
A: Irresponsible gun owners treated them as targets.
- Cooper Collins (8 months ago)
A: Thank you. I feared it was something like that. Those type of people don't deserve to own guns!
- Abbey Hadachek (8 months ago)
Q: Can I shoot being under 21
A: Yes you can.

Windy but good place to shoot

There are three shooting areas: one designated for pistols only at around 25 yards, another for both pistols and rifles at about 50 yards, and a 100-yard range where you can send just about anything downrange (no clay targets). Pretty good place to go no one is there to hassle you about shooting too fast, which is great, but that also means no one is around to clean up after you, so be responsible and pick up after yourself. Would be even better if some of you idiots stopped shooting the porta-john now I have to drive all the way to town.

A FREE outdoor public shooting range managed by the USDA Forest Service. Has covered shooting tables and three ranges - short, medium, and long range! Location has male and female toilet facilities - concrete with steel doors. The dirt road can get very rough and bumpy. The USDA Forest Service DOES NOT maintain the road! Call Weld County road department and let them know it needs to be graded. They have showed up every time I've called. Oh! Almost forgot! The nice fence the Forest Service installed to keep the cows out of the shooting range is a real problem for some people. Apparently, the thought of walking from the far end of the parking lot to the gate is just unacceptable! However, stretching the wire fence and crawling through with weapons in hand, damaging the fence is preferred. I mean, who wants to walk 20 or so feet to use the gate? A pulled hamstring is no joke! Some people bring an arsenal, which require more than one trip! No - it's safer and much easier to go through the fence, taking everything they need in one go! I'm told those who do this have done so for years and have never dropped a single loaded weapon while crawling between the wires. I'm also told the Forest Service must use some special wire! Between the time they leave and come back the next weekend, the wire somehow repairs itself, and sometimes looks brand new! In all seriousness, the FREE shooting range facilities take a lot of abuse and damage. If we want to keep nice things, we need to treat them better people! Use the darn gate! Shoot only where you are supposed to shoot! The restroom doors are not there to put holes into, and the gate latch, which seems to require replacement at least twice a month is there to latch the gate and keep the cows out! It's not a target, and neither is the message board! A huge thank you to the men and women of the USDA Forest Service to clean up after the messy "children" and fix all the damage caused by those who lack the self respect necessary to resist the urge to shoot up the facility when nobody is looking. You're doing a great job! Because we have such a great Forest Service staff, and the fact that we even have this type of facility available to us FOR FREE, I give it 5 STARS!

This free shooting range has significant potential to be a great location for sport and recreational shooting. However, frequent misuse by some individuals is concerning. There are instances of signage being damaged by gunfire, random shooting in unauthorized areas, and trash being left along the dirt roads. Such behavior not only disrespects the space but also jeopardizes its future availability for responsible users. ItΓÇÖs important to remember that spaces like this are a shared resource. LetΓÇÖs all practice proper firearm safety and etiquette, respect the designated shooting areas, and take responsibility for keeping the range clean. By doing so, we can ensure that locations like this remain accessible for everyone to enjoy responsibly.

I would love it if the site had facilities as advertised. And if it were better policed. That would be great.

Nice free outdoor shooting range. Has 3 areas 25 yrd for handgun, 50 for both handgun and rifle, and 100 for rifle. There are at least 10 shooting lanes per area. Bring everything you need with you as there is nothing out here and it's in the middle of nowhere. Bring targets and stands. Shotguns are supposed to be not allowed here but I often see others with them.

I am writing this from what my experience was like a few years ago. Went there with a friend in 2019-2021, and I had the time of my life. Basically, the rules were to respect others, stay safe, don't be dumb, and clean after yourself. My buddy and I followed them, and yeah, we had the best range time that you can get at a public area, especially if it's only you there. It's sad that I now have to read about the bathroom getting removed cause people kept shooting it, which is understandable. I went one day and saw a slug hole right through the door of it. But still, I hope people can still have fun here.
