I own a firearm that my wife & I decided to obtain for home protection. We got it in 2016 & have probably gone to the range...maybe a half dozen times in the past 8-9 years. Enough to remember that we have a firearm, but not enough to be confident, much less, good at using it. So, to get better acquainted, I decided to start using it more often PLUS I'd like the option to carry it certain places without broadcasting to everyone that I have one on me. That led me to Blue Ridge Marksmanship to obtain a concealed carry training course. Knowing that it was going to be an 8hr course (it's a NC state requirement), I was prepared for a long boring class. Kevin Dylus was the instructor that actually made the classroom not only interesting, but fun! His communication skills kept all of the students engaged & having a good time! There is also a fair amount of time on the range, where the students get hands on training & the opportunity to learn how to improve on your stance, technique, & aim. When we got to the range, another staff member (Andy) showed up to help & walk us through how to handle our firearms safely & properly. The staff here were incredibly helpful, polite, knowledgeable & down to earth. I'm currently looking into some of the other classes they offer to help better my understanding of what it means to be a safe & educated gun owner!

AR Operator Course. This is my second course with Blue Ridge Marksmanship and I can not say enough positive remarks about my experience. The Instructors (Kevin and Christy) were top notch and explain all the information and techniques very well and see you through the practical application of them on a safe and fun range. It was a great experience, I highly recommend no matter if you are a first timer or have a lot of experience behind an AR. Shooting once or twice a year or even shooting everyday seated behind a bench isnΓÇÖt good enough; this experience will change your mind about the way you shoot and train. I will be back and bring a friend. What a great time. My first course with BRM was the AK Operator Course (Kalashnikov) taught by (Randy with the aid of Tony) and I enjoyed it so much this will be an annual event for me.

I recently took Blue Ridge MarksmanshipΓÇÖs Defensive Pistol Class for the first time. I had maybe 5 magazines worth of shooting experience prior to this class. I learned many skills and drills to begin the path of honing them to proficiency. Before taking the class, I didnΓÇÖt know what I didnΓÇÖt know. Kevin and Andy both gave me live feedback throughout the course based on my performance and how I could improve. I never felt uncomfortable, unsafe, or unsatisfied. Great instruction! Done in a way that teaches you what works best for YOU and offers an open dialogue on different techniques, equipment, etc. Going to have to go back and take a CC course since I let mine expire. Beautiful range as well!

I m not a gun person and had never even held one prior to this one day course. However, my spouse and I hike in grizzly country when we are out west and he has carried a gun then ( a local MT friend lent us her gun) For the extremely slight chance of a grizzly encounter I should also know how to defend myself if things got ugly. Kevin teaches an extensive classroom prep starting from the very basics which I hadnΓÇÖt a clue. Christy, another teacher, assisted on the shooting range and she was very helpful as well. I highly recommend this course for beginners as well as those rusty on their shooting skills.

IΓÇÖve taken several gun courses across the country over the last 20 years, and I can honestly say that Blue Ridge Marksmanship provides the very best gun and practical self defense courses IΓÇÖve ever taken. Kevin, Randy, Tony, and all of the rest of the instructors have a wealth of knowledge and real world experience, and they do an incredible job of teaching to all levels of skill and experience. I cannot recommend them highly enough! IΓÇÖve taken 3 courses at Blue Ridge Marksmanship thus far, and I intend to continue training there as often as I can going forward! My daughter and I did a private course with Kevin, and it was perfect. We were looking for a basic education on firearms and some practice, so we know what to shop for. Kevin was not only full of valuable information but was engaging and entertaining. We will be back for another course soon!

BRM Defensive Pistol is a course that everyone who plans on carrying a pistol should take. I'll try not to overdo it, but this was an amazing 2 days of training. Probably most important were the broad range of drills that covered everything from a review of the fundamentals to in-depth training on advanced skills (like moving and shooting) that can be challenging to learn. The second thing that stands out about the course is the amount of individual instruction that we received from both instructors. While almost everything is done as a group, the instructors are watching each student carefully to see where they need help. The last thing I'll mention in this review is the stress on teaching the students drills they can do at home. In an environment where ammunition is expensive, Kevin placed a great deal of emphasis on dry-fire drills that can be done with an unloaded gun in the living room at home and skills that can be practiced entirely without a gun. We had plenty of opportunity to see how that type of drill positively impacts Defensive Pistol shooting during the class. First the dry-fire, then the live fire. Oh... just one more thing. Because of the amount of shooting that we did in the two days, I got to see some of the weaknesses of the firearms I was using. Kind of an equipment "stress test". Very valuable! I'm planning on making some changes... and I know what to look for now. So, a huge thanks to Kevin and Christi and my fellow students for an incredible learning experience.

WOW! Just WOW! Having completed my first course with BRM, I have nothing but good things to say. Was it easy? No, but they gave me an opportunity to challenge myself and begin developing the knowledge and skills to more proficiently handle a firearm which is what I wanted. Randy and his AI's did an excellent job managing the training and were very helpful and friendly along the way. Kevin and company are definitely top notch. I will be looking into other classes in the future.

This course was very helpful at fixing bad habits and managing a smooth aim. I was the youngest person there at 21 years old, and there were people in their mid 70s there as well. All ages were welcome. Kevin is very outgoing and keeps morale high. He gives you a lot of options and doesn't think there's "one right way". The assistants Andy & Kristi were very helpful with reiterating and visualizing Kevin's instructions. Would definitely go again, not a boring course even with it being 2 days of 8-hour sessions :)

Do you ever feel like there is more to life? Do you feel like the world is getting worse and crime is on the rise? Do you feel ready to defend your life or another when things get not so pleasant? This is the place for you. I took a class that required some hours in the classroom and my first thought was "Oh, great death by PowerPoint." When I entered the classroom, I noticed there were nice comfortable chairs (not like those horrible metal folding ones) The tables were neatly arranged, facing a projector screen. The room was painted a nice bright color that reminded me of sunshine poking through the clouds after a cool summer thunderstorm. As I picked a chair, I noticed four items were on the table in front of every chair. Some study materials that I could take home and review in case I do not remember everything we covered, a very nice Blue Ridge Marksmanship (BRM) pen, a very cool BRM sticker for my metal water bottle (So people know I go cool places), and a 16 oz bottle of water just for me. I was mesmerized. Wow, that shows how much they care. KevinΓÇÖs knowledge and humor in the classroom made the hours fly by. Next, it was range time. The walk to the range was up this gravel road that went by the classroom. It is a bit of an incline, but just a long enough walk to settle your nerves a bit before you get your equipment on. There I found a nice, covered building to place down my bag and organize my gear while Kevin went over safety procedures for the firing range. He had a presence about him that demanded your attention and made me feel much safer (Like a parent or grandparent holding you when you were younger making you feel like everything was going to be ok). Finally, we get on the range and Kevin starts talking about what to aim for on the target and explaining all this medical stuff about where to shoot and why that is best. I canΓÇÖt remember all of what he said, basically the plumbing and electrical in the human body. (I can google it later) I was blown away by the medical knowledge he displayed. Finally, we got to start shooting. I had never really carried concealed before especially with an appendix carry holster. It turns out my belly was casting a bit of shade over my pistol making it hard to draw from the concealed. I guess that is what Kevin was talking about when he said know your equipment and check it before you go out. He kindly came by and suggested a different set up which was more comfortable. I was a weaker firer, so they put me with an instructor named Andy. Andy was a calm and knowledgeable gentleman that instantly made my nerves calm. When he talked about a firearm it was like Shakespeare reciting poetry. It was like having a friend coaching you along and celebrating the small victories with you. I truly think this is one of the best places in the country to receive training. I know I have a lot to learn, and I intend on learning it at BRM.
