Buck & Doe's Mercantile

Q: What changes with the Texas constitutional carry law?
A: Texas constitutional carry law allows those who can legally own and possess a firearm under federal and state law to carry without a license. The problem is that all the current carry laws apply plus there are also extra restrictions. You can NOT carry in all the places a person with a Texas license can. You also must know all the currant carry laws or you could be charged with a felony. You have to know where you can and canΓÇÖt carry without a license so you donΓÇÖt get in trouble. Constitutional carry is great if you know all the laws that apply to it. ThatΓÇÖs why we recommend finding a class near you to understand the new law.

A: I also would look at the laws regarding posted signage to see how it's changed if any. You see alot of signs stating no constitutional carry, but the signs are small and not the size dictated by law regarding the LTC people. Remember those had to be very large and within set parameters or not legal

Q: What is required to shoot a pistol inside thx
A: As a first time shooter on our range, you will need to fill out a Safety Waiver. Then you'll want to have good eye and ear protection, closed toe shoes and clothes that protect you against hot brass. You can bring your own commercially produced brass or nickle cased ammo and firearms, or you can rent firearms and purchase ammo from us. Our staff will get you set up on a lane and make sure you know how to use the target system. Other than that, we hold your license while you are shooting on the range as a place holder for the bay you are using. Hope to see you on the range soon! It costs $22.50 to shoot on the range and $11.25 for a split lane/to add another person on the same lane. We don't charge by the hour so if there isn't a line for the range, you can stay and shoot for more than an hour without be charged any overages.

A: The indoor gun range at Buck and Doe's Mercantile in San Antonio provides a safe, unintimidating environment, especially for first time shooters. Their state-of-the-art indoor shooting range is the only ΓÇ£green" gun range IΓÇÖm aware of in San Antonio. They have a fully self-contained bullet trap system, commercial air filtration design, and acoustically rated sound abatement wall systems. You'll love it.

Q: Where can I get a concealed carry permit (CHL) in San Antonio?
A: In January 2016, the Concealed Handgun License was changed to License to Carry (LTC). Here at Buck & Doe's we offer classes on a weekly basis in hopes we can accommodate all our customer's needs.

Came here with my girlfriend in Nov. 2024. It was a great experience, easy, reasonably priced and beginner friendly. I have a handful of past range trips, but it was my girlfriendΓÇÖs first time shooting. Kali showed us around, walked us through the basics and went above and beyond throughout our time at Buck & Does. Appreciate you Kali, thank you for the kindness you showed us.

Recently I purchased a revolver for my wife for Christmas. On the date of purchased, I was informed by the salesperson that I could have my wife try out the revolver at the range for free at a later date. On January 5, 2025, (just days after the purchased) from this business refused to honor their commitment. I will never shop at this business again!!!

I bought private archery lessons for my family for Christmas, we had such a great time! Both Attila and Alena were great instructors who made us feel very comfortable and taught all of us how to properly use a recurve bow. If you are interested in Archery or just looking for a great place to practice, I highly reccomend Bucks and Does. We will definately be back again!

I have visited the store multiple times to browse and ask questions, and the staff has always been open to my inquiries. I used their knife sharpening service, and my Benchmade knife was returned to me quickly and in excellent condition. During the Christmas season, I purchased a new rifle and optic (not from them), but I took the rifle in to have an LPVO mounted. I was quoted that the latest completion date would be January 6th, with the earliest being January 1st. I dropped off the optic and rifle today (December 27th) a little before noon. To my surprise, I received a call shortly after 4 PM the same day, informing me that my rifle was ready for pickup. I must say, I was very impressed and excited about the quick turnaround. I highly recommend Buck and Doe, and I will definitely return for all my needs.

Signed up for a beginner archery class after plucking a few strings at a renaissance fair. Mr. Attila was a great instructor…I found recurve shooting fascinating. Went back same week to make my first ever bow purchase, unfortunately a bow to meet my needs wasn’t on the shelf. Luckily Mr. Attila found what I needed and called me back in same day to pick up what I needed to get started! The customer service here was incredible, from signing up for a class in person to purchasing and setting up a recurve. It really solidified that I wouldn’t need to shop anywhere else for my future archery needs! In addition, I’m looking forward to signing up for private instruction in the near future.

CanΓÇÖt say enough about this place. Entire staff friendly and inviting. IΓÇÖve been shooting since a kid both for enjoyment/proficiency and work wise at one point in time. With that said, I still learn things every time I go IΓÇÖve never known from all of the staff as they come with their own backgrounds and specialties. DonΓÇÖt be scared off if new to this world as very inviting and will never make you feel uncomfortable and bad for coming to learn. Both of my daughters greatly went from never shooting a long bow and arrow to 20 yard proficiency with proper instruction at their indoor archery range. ItΓÇÖs great being members on top of everything else as their showcase events they put on are fantastic with all the top vendors and high dollar giveaways. Membership also allows us access to the shooting/archery ranges whenever we like along with the members lounge. On top of everything IΓÇÖve listed and beyond (or this review will go on forever), first and foremost is safety. They make sure rules are followed for everyoneΓÇÖs sake so donΓÇÖt hesitate on if any concern. Thanks for being the best in the area!

To preface, I've been here many times before to use the range, take my LTC and even bought my last handgun from them. Great experiences, great facility. The last two times were not great. Both happened within a month or so from each other. The 2nd to last time I went in to inquire about selling back the handgun I purchased from them ($650+) and the holosun red dot I added to it (don't need it due to astigmatism $300+), nothing wrong with them, just decided I wanted something different. Only about 300 rounds through it tops. The bald guy behind the counter said he would go check with the manager and run the serial number to get a price. Comes back and says they can only offer $450ish for all of it. I thought that was low and asked even with the sight. He said that, at that time, essentially, it wasn't worth anything extra. Thinking that was odd, I left. Fast forward to today. I came in to get it appraised again because I wanted to trade it in for the other model I wanted instead. The same bald guy assisting me says the same thing. That the holosun wouldn't be worth anything. I said I'd take it off then because the gun price would stay the same. He comes back after running the serial number and says the best he can do is ... $200 but max $250 if you leave the red dot on it. I was not just there a month ago. It couldn't have changed that much. I didn't add one more round down it. If you didn't want it (which is fine, just tell me) don't lowball me. I told him he was the one that quoted me $450ish a month ago. Why the change? Couldn't give me an answer. Denied that he helped me before. At that point, I was over it. I felt disrespected and honestly seemed shady.

I used to love going to this range but the new staff seem to be incompetent and forgetful, I saw people on the range get mad that they didn’t know how many lanes were meant for their party since the lanes they were assigned were taken. A member went back outside to clarify with the guy with a TCU hat all he said was “oh that lanes taken? I don’t know, pick whatever”. The customer was so confused and never got an answer from him and his group hopped onto open lanes, not sure how many they paid for or where they belong but there was no guidance. Then towards the end a new staff member mistakenly tossed equipment in my bag and I realized after doing a thorough check of my bag that there was an item that did not belong to me. I had returned it and the staff member said “if it was me I would’ve taken it, but thanks for returning it since you’re honest”. That just sounded weird hearing from staff that should be on top of their equipment at all times. Also… is it a new rule that when we get a lane that all members of our party has to turn in an ID? I remember it was always only one ID since I share a lane with 2 others but the guy in the TCU hat made us all give him our ID’s for our shared one lane.

I'll first say that I have a previous relationship with Will, Rob and Corey. My loyalty to them is the only reason I would drive from almost in Castroville to B&D's...even though I love the place. Will has worked on my bow and also built arrows for me a couple of times. He's always great to work with. However, I went in last Saturday with a bit of an emergency and none of my guys were there. Instead, I worked with Jonathan. Jonathan listened to my needs, spent time getting my bow fixed and set back up the way I asked him to. He was professional, kind and efficient. Just another great bow technician at B&D's trying to get me to keep making the long drive with great customer service and attention! I guess they all deserve a raise! But seriously, when your team goes above and beyond to give the highest level of customer service, and to build relationships with customers, that's the key to continued success. If you have a great product, but treat your customers poorly, you'll loose 10 out of 10 times! Treat them right, and you win, even if you occasionally drop the ball! Great Job Archery Section and B&D's!

Just moved to town and only visited Buck & Doe's for the the first time yesterday but thrilled to be 20 minutes away from a great indoor range, gun store, archery shop, and even knives and cigars all under one roof! Makes me feel like the beloved Toys R Us from my youth has returned in a new grownup-centric form!

Came to shoot and ended up planning to buy a new Benelli. Garrett was great and helped me choose a badass shotgun but when it came to the paperwork process it got a little rocky and the manager didnΓÇÖt seem to care to help, and even after having some issues with the from process the manager still stood on the other part of the store with his arms crossed which was pretty embarrassing to the whole process as it was clear there were some discrepancies in the whole thing, and to top it off, the paperwork still wasnΓÇÖt done right and was denied, even with my valid LTC. In the end IΓÇÖll be buying the same shotgun from else where with proper management and customer service as well as other future purchases. The range is good and the other employees including Garrett have always been cool and have helped through plenty of other purchases, but the management dropped the ball on the whole process.

I Googled this gun range. It sounded great with law enforcement discounts, pistol, rifle and artillery ranges. A nice store even with a boutique. However once I arrived, I stood at the gun range counter for at least 10 minutes before someone waited on me. I then filled out the necessary paperwork. Another 15 minutes went by and still no one to assist me. I noticed at the gun counter next to me THREE male staff were helping ONE male customer. In the distance I could see a female staff helping a male customer. This place was not busy. I finally asked one of the three staff if there is anyone working the gun range. He then came over to help me. He said he did not realize I needed help. I was like WTH am I doing standing here by the cash register! I asked for law enforcement discount and he said you have to have a membership in order to get law enforcement or military discount. I told him that is not what the website said. I don't like to play the gender card. But it was very obvious they were ignoring this older woman in lieu of the men who were in the store. I can guarantee they will no longer get my business. I will drive a further distance to spend my money and shoot my guns!! I have never been treated this way at any gun range.🤬🤬🤬🤬

Good experience with personnel and store is great. One thing lacking that I've never seen a range without, are tables at the bak of the indoor ranges to set uncases, ammo, mags and more on. And being in a wheelchair makes things even more disappointing and even others I saw needed tables. They're cheap and would be a huge benefit. Never been to an indoor range that didn't have them. Maybe someday?
