Q: Can I use shotguns at this gun range?

A: Yes, they're closed Mondays and Tuesdays

- David Clark (6 years ago)

Q: Is there any cost to use this range? Also, it seems target holder is an issue, why can't folks bring their own?

A: It requires you have some kind of wildlife related license. Cheapest option is a heritage fishing license for like 12$. The place has stands and cardboard backings to put paper targets on, you can bring your own steel targets too but they don't want trash out there so no cardboard boxes or bottles or Clay's unless your at the shotgun range

- Steven Hughes (6 years ago)

This is a well maintained range with a friendly and experienced staff on site. The range is divided into two areas, one for handguns and the other for rifles. There’s a shotgun area near but I’ve never used it. The handgun side also contains a lane for 22lr rifles. The rifle side has movable targets for 25, 50, 75, and 100yds. Both sides have covered areas for the shooters and both sides have backers for paper targets as well as steel plate targets at the extreme distances, respectively @ 25 and 100yds. This is a well managed range with a competent staff. The cost is simply having a current Alabama Hunting License; shooting all year long for the cost of a regular hunting license… You can’t beat that for value!

Can get busy. Late afternoons are tough with glare from the sun setting behind the targets. Great people that work there

Too hard to travel to site. Oversight & Safety are very good. Beautiful site. Clean and restrooms provided. Just a long drive over very rough roads.

Great range, road to range the last couple of miles are dirt road and if you have a vehicle that is low clearance you may want to drive another vehicle. It is very clean and rules are easy. Very organized and polite. I visited both ranges (pistol, rifle) and (shotgun) . Make sure you have your permit. You can find the permit online at the Cahaba River WMA Range.

Range wardens were very kind and explained the rules so everything was easily comprehensible. Safe is top priority and everyone at the range has to get up, step away from posts before entering range. ThereΓÇÖs a pistol range with several different target setups and a rifle range. Great place for an afternoon outing of shooting and learning gun safety. FYI - you are required to have proof or purchase a wildlife heritage license to use. Easily purchased on Outdoor Alabama for $15.

Great place to shoot and they have RSOΓÇÖs on duty which adds up to a safer place to shoot. You need a hunting license or wildlife management license (thatΓÇÖs what it costs, no other fees) and you need to register with the RSO (range safety officer). Also itΓÇÖs a busy place so plan for some waiting for a spot, however you might not have to wait just depends. You will only need paper targets THEY supply you with staple guns to secure your target.

Very friendly safety oriented range at a price even jobless folks can afford. 100, 50 and 25 yd ranges with minor steel in place or bring your own paper.

ItΓÇÖs nice. Portolet toilet. Employees are great and keep the shooters in shape and following the rules. Used the rifle range. 50 and 100 yard targets with steel plate at 100 yards also. Dirt gravel road can be rough but no issues in 2wd truck. Will return.

The range is nice and clean I wish the shotgun section had more room though, but I canΓÇÖt complain too much. The rifle range is nice and kept up the staff here are amazing and make you feel at home. I bring my family as often as I can Sunday mornings are great also if you want to beat the church crowds etc.
