Cameo Shooting and Education Complex, Colorado Parks and Wildlife

Q: When will you have senior/veteran/active duty military rates, I would think that would have been the first rates offered! Please put those in ASAP such as today. Also a half day rate would be appropriate
A: I find that when requesting things you get a lot better results when you don't demand.

A: I swear, some people just aren't happy unless they are complaining. Cameo is beyond awesome. With so many great things about this place you really have to try hard to find a downside but someone always will.
- Marc Ritzdorf (3 years ago)
A: Cameo is a fabulous 2000 acre facility and perhaps the finest shooting range in the world. The public bays; 1 thru 7 are covered and have solid benches. The facility is extremely clean and tidy and well maintained - by volunteers. Each of the bays has steel that can be shot and well built target backers. 12 dollars a day is actually a pretty reasonable price for what you get. If that is too much and you like to shoot a lot you can join for 150 a year and shoot as many days as you want. The range was built with some state money and grants but it is now self supporting which bodes well to keep it open. If the rates were too cheap and it was a financial drain some may want to close the range. Rather than complaining you should be happy that such a wonderful facility is available. But if you want to shoot there for less you can. Sign up with the CPW and volunteer to help at the range. As long as you put in 8 hours a month you can shoot for free. That is more productive than complaining.

A: I travel through this part of Colorado frequently. I am sooo jealous of this phenomenal shooting facility and the annual fee/daily fee is so much lower then other lesser facilities. My wife and I have talked about moving to the GJ area and this range is one of the reasons. Amazing place and you are so fortunate to have it!
- Jim Parrish (2 years ago)
A: WOW i find okeys REQUEST and SUGGESTIONS to be appropriate.. yes, he/she wants results immediately but its all great suggestions and i would think theyD be honored.. seems like oppiee is sensitive and marc is probably a supportive friend.. all good.. cant wait to get there today and see for myself..

Q: When is the Sporting Clays Course scheduled to be open?
A: Both sporting clays ranges are open now - March 2022 - and have been open for a while. The designer of the courses is world renowned and he said that the "pallet" he had to work with was the best he had ever seen.
- Chuck Burns (2 years ago)
A: Website says they will be done by Spring.
- Joseph Luebbe (4 years ago)
Q: The website doesn't seem to be working so I'm gonna ask a dumb question here. Can you rent or try out various pistols here? Looking at getting into shooting again and would like to try out some modern tech.
A: Hi Steve, We do not currently rent firearms. Thank you

Q: When will the sporting clays range open?
A: Sporting Clays opened yesterday, June 29th!

Excellent shooting facility with knowledgeable and helpful range safety officers. One of the few places to test your long distance skills out to a mile. It was completely worth the trip from Alaska.

Was there for an archery competition. Grounds were ok. People running competition were not. Drove 575 mi to spend time with my granddaughter. Organization gets 5 stars for wasting all of 2 days and on Mothers day. Too many intermissions and whole event very poorly laid out. Waited over 5 hrs. to watch my granddaughter shoot at 6 in the evening on Mothers Day. Both days she was so tired she went to bed early. It was her first time at this competition. We will choose another weekend next time.

I can barely even believe this place exists. It is so professionally run (though during busy times i might suggest RSO's at every bay and timed hot/cold range) and maintained. If you want to train or learn, this is the place, and we have already gone well out of our way, not living super close by, to do so on several occasions. Quickly convert between types of ranges and uses, zero in on 200+ yards (uncommon elsewhere in the state), have private reservations, bunches of clay stations that all have different skills and trajectories.... just so much fun and important.... Use this precious resource while you can: the way this regressive state is going, it may not last much longer.

Having shot at ranges in various states, I will say this is the finest and cleanest outdoor range IΓÇÖve ever seen or used. And friendly and helpful staff, which isnΓÇÖt always a given. A dedicated 22LR bay with available steel targets, 50 yard pistol bays with steel or paper, 100 and 200 yd flat rifle bays with target boards. Multiple Rifle steel targets are sprinkled across the backing hill above the rifle bays out to 700 yards. A Dedicated Long Range Precision rifle bay with pro shooting tables and multiple steel targets out to 2000 yards. These targets light up to indicate a hit! Flat Archery bay with targets. Three walking 3D archery courses of various lengths in the canyon. Two professionally designed Sporting Clays courses using 2 or 3 throwers respectively. A 5-Stand. There are 20 or more bays used for training classes and competitions not available to the public. There are numerous National, State or local shooting shows or competitions at the facility. And always the possibility of an appearance by the local Desert Big Horn Sheep herd. For those squeamish over the Mag capacity question, itΓÇÖs not a real issue. As a State P & W facility, and the state 15 round capacity limit, itΓÇÖs a required question. And thatΓÇÖs all. IΓÇÖve shot there many times with ΓÇ£Standard CapacityΓÇ¥ magazines with no issue. No one cares.

My girlfriend and I wanted to go shooting. We didn’t have guns with us and they couldn’t let us use theirs… it could have ended there but they offered us a tour of their complex and it was amazing. Kenny gave us a full tour of their facility that includes handgun, rifle, long range (rifle) and archery range. They also have several stands where you can shoot pigeon clay. If you think your regular shooting range is nice… you haven’t seen anything! They told us that they would eventually like to have people without guns being able to use theirs… but that will have to wait for another trip!

Very well set up. Can get busy. Friendly knowledgeable staff. Have a lot going on if you are a beginner or advanced shooter. Everything from pistol to shotgun and also archery. Highly recommend. Nominal fee to get a daily pass and offer year passes as well.
