Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range

Q: Why is the gun range range closed at 8 am?
A: Construction until June 7th it'll be closed until then
- Adam Woodrum (6 years ago)
A: Before the Range closed, I went there often. When there is a rifle target on a two foot square box twenty to thirty yards out from the benches, the projectile will skip and go over the hill. People down range will complain. The Range Officer is there to stop that type of target from being used. Any way, as Range Officer, that is what I would do. If you used a target that was five feet above grade, there would be no need to close the Range.

Q: Are the covered rifle bays open during the week or only on Sundays?
A: Yes, all bays and berms are first come first served 7 days a week.
- Allan Alibudbud (6 years ago)
A: The covered areas are open all week.
- Bethany Loftis (6 years ago)
Q: Does rifle range go 1,000 yards? Can I rent target stands?
A: No, 300 yards, and no rentals
- Randall Brooks (4 years ago)
Q: Are shotguns O.K. at Carson City Nv Gun Range?
A: Per the posted rules they can be used in the bays
- Randall Brooks (4 years ago)
Q: Do you need to make a reservation to shoot or is it first come first serve?
A: 1st come 1st serve, other than bays 3 and 4 those bays can be Reserved
- Randall Brooks (4 years ago)
Q: Does the range now have target holders on every lane? Selling ammo/target on site?
A: They do not sell ammo on site but they do have target slots at every bay
- John Hester (4 years ago)
Q: Can I take my 8 years old daughter to the shooting range?
A: Yes
- Randall Brooks (4 years ago)
Q: Why is the range only open on sundays now
A: They're only open when a range master can be there to supervise. Some issue with complaints about rounds making it over the berm to the landfill.
- Bethany Loftis (5 years ago)
Q: The owner gets back to me? There's a owner... Don't you mean the city? I'm confused
A: It is maintained by the city
- joe kissel (6 years ago)
Q: What time do they open the gate in the mornings?
A: I've been there as early as 6am and gate would already be open.

Since the city has taken this place over, it's gotten better. It's a lot cleaner and safer. The rules are a little more strict, but at the end of the day, you don't have people flagging you with loaded gun every 3 seconds like they did back in the wild west days.

I visited this place for the first time around 8 years ago and they have come a long way since then. They have everything you want and more with what they offer you. Entry is not free anymore and they have several options to pay when you get to the entrance (we paid 5 dollars) overall we had a great experience shooting here and they have bathrooms now.

Love how the place is so organized! Lots of room for shooters. All sorts of pistols and rifles shooters. It was a great time, not too many people and luckily there are plenty of spots! It is a great spot away from the city and dump. Very appreciative of the volunteers and Carson City for the upkeep of this range. Cost is per shooter and $5 each. Just fyi!

The range is a 5 star set up unfortunately the power hungry range safety officer is a waste of time. Today when we went the rifle range was full of people and the pistol range had us and one other group. The range safety officer was at the busy rifle range. We were practicing proper range safety calling hot and cold ranges and had been shooting for 30 mins at this point. We just called cold range for the 3rd time and were getting ready to set up targets with the power hungry range guy shows up. I was walking out and he says what are you doing I didnΓÇÖt call cold range and I told him we just called a cold range he goes well I just got here and I told him we were doing just fine with out him and that he should go back to the busy range he then made us wait behind the blue line and called cold range then left again. The guy is a power hungry snob who honestly made the range more unsafe as he was away from the crowd. Get rid of this guy.

My go to shooting range

I was very impressed with the cleanliness and the location of this Rifle and Pistol Range. Overall, It was a safe place to just spend some quality time with your beloved small arms and rifles. I was just visiting the state and saw this on a whim and tried out. The sign at the gate showed some changes coming on the 1st week of April 2024 in which you will now have to pay by either credit card or debit card. I think there was an ample station's to shoot some targets but also saw that it could get very crowded if lots of people happens to decide and pay a visit on the same day. We had a blast and would definitely come back again.

Twice now I've been treated as a nuisance when coming to this range. The range officer is very unprofessional and shouldn't be in charge of a public park let alone a rifle range. Go out to BLM land or any other range. Save your money.

The RSO's are awesome, and the range is in excellent condition. Came to sight in a new hunting rifle, but I will be bringing the rest of the family down to shoot here. Great place!

My first time at this Range, I came here to Sight-in a new firearm and scope. Very impressed! Well maintained facility, wide individual space, both sit-down and prone position, separate operating rifle and pistol range, and friendly Range Masters. Kudos to Carson City! A long drive for me, but I will return again for my Long-range needs. 👍

I don't know if I'll get n any trouble for rating this facility as I'm the Range Coordinator for the City of Carson City! But I can tell y'all the RSO'S n Volunteers along with the local folks who come out are friendly n knowledgeable n are willing to help with the daily operations we have going on. We are really excited to be making improvements to the Range n hope to see y'all out there soon. Please stay safe out there n be respectful of your fellow shooters 🙏

A week ago, I went to the Carson Rifle range to sight in my 2 guns. Arrive at the entrance and the gate is locked. Earlier this week, I called Carson Parks and Recreation. They told me any time the AQI as measured on AirNow.gov was over 200, the range was closed. Yesterday, with the Carson City AQI at 106, I again drove all the way to Carson (from Incline Village)ΓÇöΓÇöYou guessed it, I arrived and it was closed. If you call the telephone number listed on the Carson Rifle Range site, you get a recording that they only work MONDAY-FRIDAYΓÇöΓÇöPATHETICΓÇö-Typical Government BUREACRATS!!!
