Central Texas Gun Works (CTGW)

Attended here today for the basic firearm safety course. Michael Carhill started it out explaining the laws behind gun ownership and was very helpful in explaining stuff if we had any doubts. They then took us out to the range (like 18 miles away), and let us shoot 4 guns! (2 handguns, a shotgun and an AR-15). Their firearm instructors seemed very knowledgeable and welcoming. They made sure everyone was following proper safety. Excellent experience all in all. 10/10 would recommend.

My best friend and I just moved to Texas from Maryland and one of our primary goals was to become licensed. We signed up for CTGW and could not have had a better experience. Michael is passionate and forward about what it means to be a gun owner and most importantly he tells you how to be protected legally. I was pissed to find out the certification would take 6 hours but an hour into listening to Michael, I had wished it was 12. Would recommend CTGW to anyone. THANK YOU! And whoever doesnt like Michael, seek therapy.

There is an Identogo location here for fingerprinting. I canΓÇÖt recommend it. I selected a 5:30 ΓÇ£appointmentΓÇ¥ and have been waiting over 30 minutes to be served.

Was here to get fingerprints completed. Made an appointment for 1:20 and waited in line for over an hour and a half. They are very disorganized and have no idea what they are doing. Please avoid this place at all costs if you getting fingerprints.

I use this store often for my FFL transfers. The process is easy and painless, although they do have higher transfer fees than stores outside Austin. The owner: Michael Cargill, is a national treasure, and despite higher FFL transfer Costs, I will gladly pay it to support the man who fights for our rights. They have moved the background check form to be completed on computer stations in the front of their store. This method of completing the background check is even faster and way more preferred than on paper. My only gripe is the place is very small, their shop front is nice but feels a bit cramped. I understand they seem to specialize in CCL classes though, which is a wonderful class, and if you're looking to procure your CHL license, you simply shouldn't do it anywhere else! They do also sport dozens of firearms for sale, and have a small selection of accessories with generally good pricing. Their staff are very well educated in firearms and can help you if you're uninformed or need information. If I'm in South Austin, I always stop here first when I'm looking local for my firearm needs.

Took the beginner shooting lesson with my son. Great experience. Excellent value for the price. Instructors you trust who took care to provide detailed knowledge and training. Far better then a 150 session with minimal instruction at any other range.

Mike, the person IΓÇÖve spoken with, has been incredibly polite throughout the entire process. However, I must admit that IΓÇÖm a bit perplexed by how prolonged the firearm purchase has been. My husband purchased a firearm as a Christmas gift on December 2, 2024. Mike assured us that it would arrive before Christmas, so we could put it under the tree. However, on December 21st, he informed us that the *PACKAGE IS ON THE UPS TRUCK FOR DELIVERY* and it will arrive a little after Christmas. Fast forward another week, I called him on December 28th. He changed his tune, saying it wouldnΓÇÖt be delivered until AFTER the new year. Despite MikeΓÇÖs exceptional politeness and personable nature, I must express my dissatisfaction with the purchasing process for the firearm necessary for his courses that we have been so excited to enroll in.

Every experience IΓÇÖve had with CTG has been 100% positive. The owner and staff are professional and always helpful. The store has been quite busy with customers going in for classes, CCLΓÇÖs, picking up orders, and purchasing. As a retired nurse shopping for my husband, I plan on extra time in the event someone is in a rush to get in and out. IΓÇÖve had great conversations with other gun owners each time IΓÇÖve been in the store. Appreciate the help and assistance IΓÇÖve received at CTG which is why I will return in 2025.

IΓÇÖve used Central Texas Gun Works since 2020 for almost all my purchases and gun transfers. FFL transfers are affordable and quick. They have a good inventory at the store and in their online store.
