Cheatham WMA Firing Range

Q: When will the range go back to noon until dark hours, people purchased annual passes while those were the hours?
A: Please, someone answer this. It's too crowded for just 4 hours.
- Charles Young (3 years ago)
Q: This used to be a decent place to shoot. Now there isnΓÇÖt any proper target stands except for what some have managed to put together out of what was left. Question is who do we contact for legitimate concerns?
A: I would contact twra, the range is on twra land.
- hamko mehmet (5 years ago)
Q: What in the world is going on here???? The pandemic has been over why are hours reduced? This range is no longer actually listed on the State of Tennessee Shooting Ranges website. Who is managing this? Do they have an anti-firearm agenda? ANSWERS!
A: The RO is extremely anti gun and anti-tennessee.. they don't want people to have safe places to shoot.
- Chancey (2 years ago)
Q: Is it first come first serve? or a fee? or membership only? need info please.!?
A: Yes first come first serve. There is a fee. You can purchase permits on TWRA website.
- Mickey Presley (a year ago)
Q: Do I just bring my hunting license to show ?
A: Yes
- Charles Young (3 years ago)
Q: is this range a public 24/7 kind of thing or is open/closed during times and always monitored?
A: Same with everything! How does limited hours help with covid? More people just cram in in the open times, insanity!
- Storm Singer (3 years ago)
A: It has been limited to 10-2 since Covid for some reason. It gets more crowded now that there are limited hours.
- Charles Young (3 years ago)
A: The range is monitored by twra . Hours are 12pm to 30 before sunset. You must have a range pass in order to shoot here. You can purchase one on twra website. A yearly fishing or hunting license, also gives you access, without having to buy a range pass.
- hamko mehmet (4 years ago)
Q: Have some of the tables been removed? There are 3 facing down-range to 100yrd targets, and only 1 facing the 50yard targets...
A: Yes I believe your right. I was there this weekend, and noticed the same thing, I dont know if it was due to damage or not. Somebody damaged the beams that hold up the shelter ?
- hamko mehmet (5 years ago)
Q: Where do I purchase a permit to shoot here as of August 2019? I have called all over.
A: Download TWRA app on your phone, go to 'purchasing', search license type of 'range', last option will be Tier-1 for Cheatham; $5 for 2hours. You can go to twra website and do the same, I think.
- Scott Baker (5 years ago)
Q: Can you shoot handguns
A: Yes.

Hours are a joke

Good little range to shoot at longest distance is only around 100 yards though. It is self managed which is a benefit because you don't have to deal with over instruction and that nonsense just make sure to follow the basics of gun safety and if you see someone just standing there waiting to place a target call the range cold for them. The hours of operation are kind of garbage 10am to 2am is kind of a joke it limits the amount people with day jobs can shoot there. So I would rate this range as a mid tier range. Pros: Not usually crowded Self-manage ( Not reliant on a RSO ) Trash cans ( sometimes free targets and such ) Pavilion style shelter ( rain is less of a issue ) Cons: Hours of operation (10am - 2pm) will get ticketed Shortish range Day pass needed Although its not super crowded it is somewhat hard to get a bench to shoot off of. In closing TWRA could do so much better with this range but it seems that they don't really care to improve on it which is honestly fine id prefer it stay the way it is instead of becoming a unenjoyable experience. if you wanna shoot this is a good place to fire off some mags

It's a really nice place to shoot pistols and rifles. It is a smaller place but was not very crowded. It is a little bit off the beaten path, but for me, it was worth the drive. Bring your own targets and stands, and please be respectful of what is there so we can keep it!

Whorable place especially when the Sadie's come out there they can't control there firearms while operating, there's some guy out there that's seems like he's offering training when he him self needs training never teach or point or revolver down cold range. Make sure you have a extra set of eye's because his class of people will obliterate your target from 5 lanes down. Used to be great spot but sadly this range has gone the way of joe biden.

I'm just echoing what everyone else has said... The hours are silly. I used to shoot here a few years ago when it closed at sunset, but had condensed hours during hunting season. It's never been much to look at, but I absolutely love having a range that's never busy and isn't being managed by over zealous staff. This place was a hidden gem. 10am-2pm daily... Who came up with this? It's an unattended outdoor range. It's not as though staff needs to close to get their kids from daycare. Noise? There's nothing out there. Every time I think I've seen the low point of Cheatham County's lack of hospitality and common sense, they set the bar just a little bit lower and surprise me. A tip of the hat county officials... A tip of the hat. Also, can we all just enjoy the sign made for the gun range, presumably by people that should know something about guns, features an outstanding typo in which they prohibit "fully automated" weapons, then fixed said typo with a Sharpie? A third tip of my hat.

Yep! The hours are 10:00 am til 2:00 PM all days of the week. It is not open until 5 on Sundays. You can get a $400.00 ticket and have your firearms confiscated. You will then hear a very tiny violin playing in the background.

Good range, but not well maintained. People need to pick up their trash, targets, and casings. There is a dumpster on location. No restrooms available nearby.

3 out of 5 for the hours. I know this is shouting into the wind - but like everyone else has said, 10-2pm is just stupid. 2pm rolls around, pack it up. No joke. The facility is....fine. Basic public outdoor range. Don't expect any amenities. Bring your own target and target stand (no steel allowed). Bit windy there too, so bring stakes or something heavy to hold your target stand. Again, I don't know who makes the hours, but it seems petty. There is absolutely NOTHING around to warrant limiting noise hours.

What is the deal with the 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. hours?!? That is really ridiculous. When this range was opened from 8:00 or 9:00 until dusk it was amazing. A little run down, but who cares, you could go out during the week after work and get a good solid hour in} decided not to go back to work after the pandemic, your screwed except for Saturday and Sunday. Not sure why they went and messed it up like they have!!

Hours used to be different. Bought permit at 1:50pm. Expired before I got to range. Officer tried to give me $500 ticket for shooting. States clearly on permit good for 2 hrs. Somebody needs to get thelir act together!!

Used to be good until the hours open were limited to 2PM. Now you can't get a table.

This is the best public outdoor range in the Nashville area, although there are some drawbacks. As other reviews have mentioned, the updated hours aren't great. The targets are also not maintained, so you'll need to bring your own target stand, wooden posts, and targets.

Public hours 10 AM through 2 PM, not a big deal. Except when the local Cops decide to use the range during the only public time and turn everybody away. Just be aware if youΓÇÖre driving in from Another county, you might get turned away by the cops during the only public access time. Updated-according to TWRA 3 random days a year the police get full use of this range and closes it to the public. They can do this without warning so you can plan a trip to go to the range, show up and the cops can tell you to leave.

This range used to be a great place to go shoot and sight in long guns. With the hours of 10:00-2:00, it impossible to get out there on a week day if you have a 9-5, and this makes the weekends absolutely packed.

Nice safe set up. Family friendly, everyone I encountered were friendly and respectful. New hours are 10am to 2pm and days a week. Bring your own target, there were some old barrels to attach them too but I would recommend bringing your own stands. Also recommend bringing your own chairs. Concrete benches are provided.

It's an outdoor range. Cheap (or free, because literally no one comes by to check you for a pass, I have no idea what these other people are talking about, I've been here 10 times and never seen a warden) to shoot there if you want to make the drive. No ammo restrictions. Bring your own targets and I'd advise bringing a target stand. If you are trying to do distance shooting, you better bring a tall chair. THERE ARE NO CHAIRS HERE ANYMORE. WTF? I would recommend Stones River for long distance shooting! There is NO SUPERVISION. There may or may not be some "uneducated" shooters at this location at any time. Beware and use caution!

I have been shooting steel here for 2 years. Today when I arrived, there was a large sign stating the range will only be open from 12-2 during big game season, no automatic fire, you must have a day pass or hunting license and NO STEEL TARGETS. I dont know if the no steel rule is just during hunting season or a "safety" rule. If you plan on shooting here, make sure you bring targets other than steel.

Good outdoor gun range. You need a hunt/fish combo license or a day pass. If you want the day pass you can buy it at walmart for $5.50. No supervision, located in a peaceful area. Very fun! Cant purchase anything there so bring everything you need before hand!

Just a public outdoor range. The chairs were old and torn up, the benches were concrete but worked. It's kind of crude overall but it works. Was not crowded and the three people I met there were very friendly. Only around 10 lanes total between all three bays. I'll go back for sure again to sight in a rifle or just casual shooting if there aren't many people. Make sure you have a pass or your hunting license.
