Chestnut Mountain WMA Shooting Range

Q: Is the range open today
A: Open Mon-Sat most weeks, check the hours
- IΓÇÖm Signal (2 years ago)
Q: Are they open on mlk day
A: I would say yes as there is no range master and no gates.
- David LaMaster (7 years ago)
A: They are open every day but Sunday. There's a church nearby so that's my only thinking as to why closed on Sunday.
- Harry Hibner (5 years ago)
A: They only have times they are closed (or that you shouldn't be there at least). No specific days so id say yes.
- Chris Barcus (7 years ago)
Q: Do I require a Georgia hunting license to use this area? Is there any type of range fee or is it just the parking fee?
A: $5.00 unless you have a senior golden eagle pass or something similar.
- John Heple (3 years ago)
Q: Do people still shooting on Sunday
A: no
- Outdew (3 years ago)
Q: I heard there is a creek you need to drive over. I have a Mini Cooper can I get across the creek?
A: If it hasn't rained recently it might be dry but it's a bumpy road requiring good ground clearance.
- John Glaze (3 years ago)
Q: Can this range accommodate a 50 big?
A: If you mean .50 BMG, sure; just leave the APIT rounds at the house.
- Brian Carroll (3 years ago)
Q: Is chestnut mountain range open today
A: Possible
- Derya A (4 years ago)
Q: I just moved to Georgia. Do I need to have a hunting license to shoot a shotgun at the range ?
A: No you donΓÇÖt what state do you need that
- Confederate Military (3 years ago)
Q: Do you have to have a hunting license or lands pass or anything like that to use the range?
A: Georgia
- Michael Bradford (8 months ago)
Q: Are they open or not? Black Friday sales shouldn't be a factor in the hours at all.
A: You do know that some one edited that time, any can. The GA DNR web page is the place to get official hrs of operation

Great place to pop some rounds. Kinda small, 100 yard max, nice facility. I use this one and Sumac Creek WMA range. Great locations.

I've frequented this range for years when I get a chance to drive this way. For $5 per shooter or $25 for a year it's a good value for a range. Pros- inexpensive; goes to 100 yds but still have sets for 50, 25 and 10 yards ; 50 and 100 yds have rifle benches ;patrons who usually here are nice and safe ; no RSO so can be good if you want to double tap or rapid fire or practice other drills not allowed at other ranges ; easy to get to this location Cons- no RSO means the range has to be self policing when calling the range cold to set up targets or remove targets down range which is not ideal for less experienced shooters; some patrons that come here do not always practice proper safety (again no RSO at this public range); It can get muddy during rain when setting targets in the back where 100 yards is ; little to No cell service Overall this a great range to shoot at for a very low price and doesn't break the bank. If you can make it out during the week or earlier in the morning it's fun. Saturday can be fun, but crowded since there is no RSO just make sure to be extra careful.

$5 for a day or $25 for a year. No better place to shoot for that price point. Get your pass before you arrive - cell service is spotty.

Great little gun range with 10, 25, 50, and 100 yard netting for targets. Only five bucks a person for the day. Get there early though. also, bring your own targets and clips.

Beautiful place to visit and a great place to shoot. It's a bit of a drive for me but well worth it. My daughter, son in law and myself went and loved it. I plan to take my son next time.

I can’t believe there is no option to pay cash on site. You have to pay via mobile app and the area has practically no service… so you have to drive to where you have service and then navigate some confusing app that doesn’t even work. Also they make you register PER SHOOTER and not per vehicle, which means everyone with you has to do the same thing. Also it’s “paper targets only” so you can’t use the fun spinning metal targets you already bought. Do better.

This is a good outdoor range. 4 stars based on frustration with paying the daily fee. Previously had a box to put cash in is no longer an option. Now must pay online but with Verizon I had no service to pay. Messed around with this for 20 minutes or so then shot for a few. Overall the range is a standard outdoor range with no supervision so you have to be in tune with everyone else to hang/review targets but for $5 a day to shoot itΓÇÖs a great deal. Overall I will go back but just pay before I arrive.

I'm a beginner, and my brother is a pro. We loved this range. We both got exactly what we needed. It stays busy rain or shine.

Someone had the idiotic idea that you should pay online before you go out there and find out there's 35 trucks in the parking lot and a 3-hour wait Before if you drove out there and it was full you could just not pay and leave Here's an idea if you're going to book it online only sell so many tickets per time frame

Great little place to go shooting. Very relaxed and comfortable. When I went everyone there was very nice and friendly. RSO was friendly and not over enforcing rules like some places.

2nd time in a row I've made the drive to this range only to be let down and left disappointed. It's a tiny range, with noone there to hold anyone accountable for thier actions. If you aren't there the minute it opens you'll be waiting for a lane as people will purposefully leave thier stuff in every open spot to ensure noone else not in that party can shoot. This is the second time I've seen someone place targets overtop a preexisting target to push someone out and forcefully take a lane. This place could be good if they would either have an RSO or a camera system to hold people accountable. I'll gladly pay a state park to shoot before any big buisness. But until they figure out how to handle this place, big box store ranges are the only safe and reliable option for now.

Clean and well taken care of. Come here with safety as a priority and pick up your brass. Great range but only goes out to 100 yards.

It seemed like a nice place to go I went just to turn around and left it was really crowded alot of people shooting while kids was running everywhere just didn't seem like a safe place to be just an accident waiting to happen

Upside - great setup, clean range, not hard to find, plenty of parking. Downside - amount of people, not enough lanes, children not being maintained b It is fun to shoot at. And it's easy to get to. But bringing your kids to the fun range and letting them run wild is not ok. Especially when there aren't enough lanes for the amount of shooters.

1. There is little to no cell phone signal. That may be an issue of there were to be an emergency, so keep that in mind. 2. I did not see a range officer when I visited, but most people at the range communicated well and I was able to have a good time and shoot safely. Make sure you understand the rules and communicate with your fellow shooters. Judging by the holes in the roof, it's fair to say that there may be some inexperienced individuals stopping by as well. 3. There is a gravel road to get to the range, make sure you have a car or truck that can make the drive. 4. You have to pay through the app. If you go online they will show you how to purchase time at the range. Overall, I had a good time and everyone stayed safe. I'll be visiting again.

It was a little crowded and had a few folks that don't understand range etiquette. There is no range master. I think it was crowded due to holiday week.

Great place, good communication, good safe practices. Highly recommended for new or practiced shooters, just be sure to be wearing ear protection as you approach the covered shooting benches from the parking lot. If you are new, I highly recommend you bring some clothes pins or something to attach your targets to the nets they have set up at the range. There are nets at 10, 25, 50, and 100 yards. If you wanted to, you could also bring your own small paper target stand and shoot at any distance between those from a single spot on the range.
