Q: What is the minimum age for shooters?
A: I was there a few days ago, and the minimum age is 10.
- Jordan Parker (7 years ago)
A: The policy on minors is available for review on the main website. That noted, all juniors (age 10-17) must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Both junior and responsible adult must successfully complete the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park safety class prior to participating in live fire on park property.
- Jonathan Greenstein (6 years ago)
A: 12 with and form signed by parent.
- Shawn Hunter (7 years ago)
A: I think as long as minors are accompanied by an adult you'll be good.
- Matthew Hicks (7 years ago)
A: 10 years old is minimum age to shoot. The child must be with a supervising, non shooting, adult. In terms of bringing children that are spectators, any age but again, must be accomanied by a supervising, non shooting adult.

Q: How much does it cost to shoot at the range?? And how do I go about reserving a spot?
A: Reservations are not required, there are plenty of lanes. Typically, the only closures are for matches... And even then, there may be occasions when they have a limited number of lanes open. Cost to shoot is on the website and depends on the type of shooting you do (pistol, rifle, sporting clays, etc). The cost for all day with rifles (100 yard range and 200, 300, 600 yard range) is $30 or $12.50 per hour. An annual waiver must be filled out on your first visit, along with watching a safety video.

Q: I know there is room for non competitors to shoot on days where competitions are held but I figured I should ask if the same is true for the big D Day matches?

- Jonathan Greenstein (6 years ago)
A: Call them
- Daniel B (6 years ago)

Great range. Very safety conscious. Expect training before you begin, so account for half an hour extra in your scheduled time. They use acoustic targets so you can see your shot placement from a terminal beside you. I didn't realize how great this experience would be. Go train here some time. Great people, and a great experience.

I came to CMP to test a new pistol I've been modifying. After running into some issues, the range officer David Sparks came to assist me. He showed me how to safely diagnose the issue, even letting me use his own personal mags and ammo to correct trouble shoot the issue. Very nice man. I really appreciate his knowledge and insight. Definitely recommend for anyone looking to get into shooting or experienced shooters. Thanks again David!

Took my rifle out to sight it in and the cop range is nice staff was great and all. But my problem was im going at a 12inch (or how ever big if a target it is down range) black dot with not point of aim in the middle..more less im guessing where I was holding to hope im in the middle of the target. Great place to go shoot but I cant sight in my rifle there.

Very clean and professional range. Computerized targeting system allows the shooter to stay at the bench. No going down range to check paper targets.

New scope was way off but CMP young man, I think his name is Steven Barrett, helped me get my scope dead on at 100 yards. This young man is a tribute to CMP personnel. CMP is a great organization with good people.

Drive 59 miles to shoot Dec 18th Ckosed. Guy said as he was coming out it was on web site that they would be closed , but it wasnΓÇÖt. No message on phone either. Great customer service. Others lined up behind us werenΓÇÖt happy either.

My buddy and I drove an hour to come sight our rifles in today, 12/18, checked their website and it said they were open, but once we got here the gates were closed. No one answered the phone we both left voicemails, no one answered the gate, and five other customers pulled up trying to get in as well so we werenΓÇÖt the only ones who thought it was open today. If you guys are closed for a day around the holidays thatΓÇÖs fine but at least put it on your website so we donΓÇÖt waste our time.

Do you THINK you are a good marksman? Come here and find out definitively, for better or worse. This place is GREAT. It's a completely different experience from an inside-gun-store type range in that it is HUGE, has good, helpful employees, and is simply top-notch. To use the whole course, you must demonstrate SOME skill by putting 3 rounds in the black at 100 yards. THEN you can go on the 200, 300 and 600 range. Each station has a sturdy shooting bench with a rifle rest and a screen that records your performance. Smooth concrete floor, nice awning/roof above. It's simply what one needs to relax and test the limits of you and your rifle/optics/ammo. The Range Officers are super kind and helpful. ASK for pointers and they can help you to X, or to understand the scoring system. I took a friend, and we had a great first time visit. There is an obligatory safety video, then you pay ($30 for all day/all access) and set out to qualify. House carts are provided to haul all your gear to the ranges, or you can rent one and keep it all day. We most enjoyed the 'unknown distance' range. This is how I have usually had a fun day with a rifle. Random steel targets are scattered all over a hilly field. One hit-one CLANG....There are some shotgun ranges with multiple stations. There are two pistol courses: one with paper targets, one with reactive steel targets. The day we went the crowd was as diverse as an old Benneton ad. A (I'm guessing) 12 year old Indian girl was banging X with an AR next to us, quite a few Asian folks, and probably a third of the crowd was families with more than two kids. Some good old boys and a smattering of super serious people with dedicated target rifles made up the rest. AR and various .30 were most popular, but some overkill was evident with a crazy report now and then and some big brass on the floor like a 300 Winchester.....guess they hunt out West. ANYWAY- this is a top-notch facility with good people and an intelligent setup. If you have a friend that is anti-gun but has an open mind, bring them here. They will probably join the NRA. IF YOU GO- Have a range bag, it's a long way to the parking area. All guns have to be cased. Pistol caliber carbines or rimfire are not allowed on the long ranges. A spotting scope isn't necessary as the target is shown and recorded at each rifle station. Eat before you come if spending all day. If there is a meal available here, I didn't see it. DO keep in mind it's outdoors. Cold, heat, wind, are just like....outdoors, so dress appropriately. SOME calibers are not allowed (you know who you are, so don't bring your cannon, or at least look at the website).

Traveled to alabama this weekend to check out CMP. We were hoping to be able to shoot our long guns but the range was busy with competitions. After watching a short safety video we were directed to the handgun range. It was a blast. We met David Sparks our range officer. He was so nice. Very helpful and such a sweet and kind personality. CMP is lucky to have him.

This place is actually fantastic. If you're in the South, just come here and avoid the actual "CMP South" Anniston store. In the pro store the selection was plentiful on a Saturday, unless you're a reseller or some sort of hardcore collector, but even so, there were easily 30+ surplus M1's and several (10+) of their expert grade M1's, and this was around 1pm. They even had an M1c. The staff was very helpful and informative, she was able to answer all the questions I had. So needless to say, the inventory and service at this location is more than enough. I highly recommend this location over the Anniston one.

A friend and I drove about three hours to visit this facility and the great motorcycle museum at Barber Motorsports Park. The whole CMP facility is first class. We only had handguns to shoot but were pleased to find the range had steel targets which are fun to shoot. Wished I could come here more often.

Staff was great and provided great information about the park. We were told the essentials and sat down to watch a quick informative video before we headed out. The range officer that watched over us was very perceptive and made sure everyone had a great time. Would love to go again with some friends or family.

Reasonable day rates and a phenomenal facility and staff. The best range experience ever. The staff, from the front desk check in to the RSOΓÇÖs at the range, are all very professional, knowledgeable, but most of all make you feel like family.
