Cowlitz Public Shooting Range

Q: Do you have to be a member to use this range? and do you have a 200 yard range for rifles? What does it take to be a member?
A: We are a public range, part of the county parks department, so we don't have memberships. Everyone is welcome. The rifle range is 300 yards.

Q: Is rapid fire allowed?
A: We consider rapid fire to be anything faster than one per second. It is allowed within range officer discretion after a shooter demonstrates control and accuracy at the slower rate.

Q: What is the cost to shoot here?
A: $13 per day is the standard adult fee.

Q: I live in Bremerton, I'm looking for a place to shoot some exotic shot gun rounds like dragons' breath. Do you allow that?
A: Sorry, no. No tracers, incendiary or similar cartridges, and no Tannerite type reactive targets. And for shotguns, slugs only on the rifle range. Trap loads only on the shotgun range ( 7 1/2, 8, or 9 size pellets).

Q: Does this place have Rental weapons?
A: No. We provide the range. We don't sell or rent guns or sell ammunition.

Q: Do you have or offer cowboy action shooting. Not fast draw! Just regular cowboy action shooting events?
A: Sorry, no. The range isn't set up for any holster draw shooting and our volunteer safety officers aren't trained to manage events like action shooting.

Q: Do you have to bring your own skeet?
A: If you mean the clay targets, no. We don't allow outside clay targets because of the specific requirements of our machine. We keep the machine loaded with our clays and charge $4 per round of 25 targets. That will be going up to $5 on July 1 because of our cost increase to buy them. Also, shotgun ammunition is limited to 7 1/2 size or smaller pellets at the trap range.

Q: For the 300 yard range, is prone shooting available or just bench?
A: Prone shooting may be allowed at the duty RSO's discretion. You must demonstrate proper gun handling control and accuracy at bench level before being permitted to shoot below bench level because of the "no blue sky" design features of the range which apply at bench level and above. Ask the duty RSO for permission prior to shooting below bench level.

Q: Are black powder revolvers allowed at the range?
A: Yes, but we do have some additional safety procedures for black powder shooters. You can find them on our website cowlitzshootingrange.com Basically, no open powder or primer containers left out on the shooting position and top off the chambers with a wad or bore butter to prevent chain fire.

Q: When is the next Hunter Safety Class ?
A: We don't schedule the hunter education classes. They are done by the state instructors. You should look at their website - https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/huntered/courses.html

Great shooting range. Best one IΓÇÖve been to for up to 300yards. $15 dollars and they do a quick safety video before entering. Very safe. Provide heaters when itΓÇÖs cold out. Great for old timers or lazy guys like me because you can drive a golf cart out to the targets.

Awesome place to shoot!! Very clean! I wish we had a range like this closer to our area. Driving 2.5 hours seems a little much, but you do what you do for training purposes. If you're into motocross or fishing and boating, there's an awesome dirt track and river right outside the gate.

Great range! Well maintained and covered. Free for active duty military and disabled veterans. A real safe place to shoot with diligent range safety officers. The carts are a nice perk when setting up your targets at 200 and 300 yards.

Not over the top like other reviews have said. My wife and myself went to this range. We are both veterans and both hold CCW's. We have been to numerous ranges and found the folks & RSO's here to be polite and helpful. We did not mind the safety video briefing, in fact it was helpful to refresh range rules. Once on the range the RSO's were helpful and courteous, they were very good at keeping a watchful eye and helping all of us to have a safe place to drill holes in paper.

First time there. Love that they are so safety concerned. Thorough explanation of rules and very willing to help the new person. Even helpful in helping me with shooting my guns. Got to see some interesting rifles and pistols.

Great place to shoot. The RSOs are friendly and very helpful. We shot at the trap range and Mr. Bob was the best! I had never shot clays at a range before only out in a field and he explained in detail how. We had 3 younger shooters with us and he was very patient. I will definitely go shooting there again.

The old guys walking around pretending to be better than everyone else is annoying... I've been here twice, and both times, it's just a bunch of know it all jerks walking around being petty about every little thing even if you're doing it right. Honestly, I'll be going literally ANYWHERE else to shoot from now on.
