DNR - Shooting Range, Dansville

The bench set up is nice as well as the individual lanes. It's kind of limited though for handgun being there is only 2 pistol lanes for 10 yards. If you go alone you may be able to get into a lane otherwise you have to wait until someone is done. They do have a few 20 yard lanes for pistol as well so that is nice. The only other thing i really see as an issue is they don't really have a setup for patterning your shotgun for turkey/buckshot/birdshot EXCEPT for slugs. Had to add the note, According to the DNR website for this location, Slugs are NOT allowed. I was told by the DNR at this location that the only thing allowed there was slugs for shotgun. So it's beyond confusing.

Place was fine, but the staff is incredibly rude. As soon as we showed up he started rattling off rules in the most loud and condescending tone and even though we respectfully followed those rules he still chose to watch us the whole time breathing down our necks and nagging at us the entire time despite us not breaking any rules. Overall the man was on a total power trip and made the experience really stressful, if it was about safety he wouldΓÇÖve just let us be when he seen we werenΓÇÖt doing anything wrong. wonΓÇÖt be returning, 1 star.

It's a DNR range, so expect certain things going in. The range officer this weekend was a very nice young lady who had to enforce a few rules and guide people, but she was extremely pleasant while doing so. She was more professional and courteous than I have previously experienced in over 25 years of MI DNR ranges.

The facility is great! The rules are very easy to follow. To put it nicely, the man who runs this place is very rude. He ruins the whole experience there.

Nobody likes a Government ran range. Expect to be restricted in what you can do with pointless DNR rules.

Ive tried to go out to tue range 3 times and the gate is closed but yet it says open and yes ive tried to call them and no answer

Love this range. Sad to see Zach is gone, because he was a good guy to deal with, but Dave is equally personable. He is all about safety, and I am good with that.

My family and I were there today 7/27/19 and had a great time. The range officer was a nice guy. He gave us some good pointers on the pistol range and thanked us for bringing our kids. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Just wanted to say I was there that day the fellow had the experience with the rifle case issue and being criticized. I was on the pistol rang at the time and it was kinda pissing me off the way this person was treated its amazing how this guy treats some people, because I shoot there often and have seen the same type of behavior with other people seems to be racial profiling also. I agree the guy before was way better person to work with. He was only outspoken when the situation required and then never in a demeaning way. This guy last year was on a power trip I really wanted to let him have it a few times but did not want to get banned from the range. The Range is very nice though besides.

This is a great place. And it does not matter how long you have been shooting THE range master is in charge!

Great range, has 25,50,100 yard ranges, as well as archery. 6 rounds only ok.

I'm actually very sad to give this rating, because up to this point I have very much enjoyed my time at this range. However, today (8/18/2018) I had a very negative experience with the staff. The rangemaster who was in charge today was extremely rude to myself and a friend who was with me. I am an experienced shooter, and I practice safe habits at all times. This rangemaster was hovering over me the entire time I was there and corrected literally everything I did. I opened my gun case incorrectly and had to put the rifle back into the case, and then reopen it in a way the rangemaster approved of. He did not approve of the way I placed my targets, he critiqued my method of reloading magazines. Literally everything I did I was viewed negatively and corrected. By contrast, the former rangemaster has never given me any difficulty at all. I followed all the same rules and practices to which I had been accustomed by my 20-30 prior visits to this range. I and my friend left after 20 minutes and only fired 24 rounds. The rangemaster ruined the experience, and embarrassed me in front of my own guest and the other shooters. I will not return to this range. I will be contacting Michigan DNR Monday to report this.

Great range for pistols and rifles. I've been a couple of times and haven't seen it busy but heard it can be right before hunting season. Be aware that they do not allow bird shot, and targets can't be human silhouettes but it's a free range. Another location has skeet shooting
