Durham County Wildlife Club
Private club featuring several shooting ranges, a 20-acre archery range & a stocked fishing lake.

Q: Is Lake opening to public ?
A: No, lake access requires membership, or supervision by a member as a guest.
- John Krivich (a year ago)
Q: Any idea the name of the stream that was dammed up to create your lake?
A: Larry, It does not appear to be a named stream. It doesn't even show in GIS. Greg

Q: Why is Durham wildlife club not open on the weekdays? Two days a week for four hours a day! Expensive on top of that.
A: DCWC is a membership driven club, not an open public range. It requires certification and proof of skills and safety to join. Working members (you have to join a committee and serve twice a year for a half day) can shoot during hours 7 days a week. Non-member guests or non-working members can shoot on Sat. and Sun. during open hours. Cost of a membership and cost to shoot at DCWC is the lowest I know in the nation.
- Alexander Drotschmann (2 years ago)
Q: Hi, can I still go on saturday and pay for the day without a membership? Do you rent the shotguns or I have to bring?
A: You can go on Saturdays 11-3 or Sundays 1-5 (public hours). You would pay per round ($8 for 25 shots of trap or skeet). The club does not rent out firearms so you would need to bring your own.
- Ken Hyer (3 years ago)
Q: I am black, will I honestly be welcomed here?
A: Absolutely.
- Greg DeWitt (3 years ago)
Q: Can you shot AR-.556 there. When is the best time to go. Less traffic? Thx
A: Can't shoot any center fire rifles here. Only pistols and rimfire. Also, to use that particular range you have to be a member.
- Michael Wells (5 years ago)
Q: I have a 0.68 caliber flintlock pistol, would I be able to shoot black powder? Also, does archery include crossbow?
A: Club rules are here: http://dcwc.info/info/safety-rules/ The pistol range has very strict rules and requires a live fire certification before members are granted privileges.
- Jonathon B. (6 years ago)
A: I think max caliber on pistol range is 38 (0.375" diameter). Plus must be a member with handgun certification. Not sure about crossbow. Conrad

Q: Are there any women members ? IΓÇÖm looking to join a fantastic community and this looks great. Thank you
A: We have a program called "women on target" for women to get together and shoot!
- Jonathon B. (6 years ago)
A: Yes, they have several female members!
- William Bolds (6 years ago)
Q: How do you become a member? Would like to give a membership to spouse as a gift.
A: Contact the club's website.
- William Bolds (6 years ago)
A: There is an orientation twice every month for prospective members. They are held the first Sunday of the month at 1pm, and the following Wednesday at 3pm. Go to www.dcwc.info for the complete process and cost information. The website doesn't work well from a mobile device, so use a computer if at all possible.
- Paul Shockley (6 years ago)
Q: Is membership required or can you pay per visit? Looking for outdoor place to introduce children to sport.
A: Open non holiday weekends sat 11 to 3, sun 1 to 5. Youth league is starting. Come out next weekend to tour, ask question, shoot
- Steve Timmons (6 years ago)
A: yes weekends are open to public, there is a guest skeet range. don't recall the specifics on children, sorry.
- Paul Sheehy (6 years ago)
A: I believe you can shoot as a non-member.

At Durham County Wildlife Club, security is their number one priority. They offer skeet, clay's, pistol range, and more. There is an on-site shop where you can buy ammunition and pay for any of the services you need. There's also a clubhouse, and other amenities. The safety training class is very good, and I recommend that you go for a refresher every now and again.

Steeped in Durham Co. history this club is a true gem. Founded already before WW II, then establishing the first skeet and trap fields in the postwar years in a different location (where IBM Disc Golf is today at Cornwallis and S. Miami. DCWC actually built the lake that is still there today) the club moved here in the early 60s with help from IBM when RTP was established and IBM began building it's site. Many options for clays sports and range shooting. Very high focus on safety and training. Members have to go through a rigorous safety training and re-certify annually. This club should be a Durham Co. heritage site.

This place and the staff are absolutely amazing. Centered on safety and respect for all weapons used. I went to an archery tournament and the course was magnificent. Very challenging but fair for all skill levels and fun to shoot. They've got a full skeet/trap range and a good pistol range as well. I highly recommend you give them a try. Sincerely, Coach Matt.
