Questions & Answers

Q: Do you give senior discount

A: Yes, on Thursdays we discount public range use to only $5 for those 60 and older.

- FOP Range Inc (7 years ago)

Q: Do they have gun training

A: Yes. Call to set it up. 205-744-2600

- FOP Range Inc (4 years ago)

Q: Can u be 18 to shoot

A: The only restrictions on range use that we have are that you be able to legally possess a firearm, have no criminal history that would prevent you from doing so and be at least 21 years old. Those under 21 who want to shoot here must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Federal law prohibits us from selling ammunition to anyone under 21. Having the age restriction keeps it simple.

- Brian Brock (6 years ago)

- Max Headroom (6 years ago)

Q: Im not a member can i use the range if so what will it cost each time i do.

A: Yes they have a public area ,I think it's $20.00

- Mike Herrmann (7 years ago)

A: You pay for a 7 day long trail membership that is $25. Or for $100 (or $75 more if you decide to upgrade from the trail membership) per year. So $25 for a 7 day use or $100 a year. The ammo is cheap, they get it in bulk and sale at cost so it's cheap. With trail membership your limited to one shooting range, or full member you have access to all of the ranges. If you go more than 4 different times throughout the year outside of the 7 day window it's easier to sign up for the membership so you have access to all the ranges and benefits.

- Alex Henderson (5 years ago)

A: Yes, it will codt you $20 but you will use one range that deducted for non member. Plus you nerd you need to buy ammo or bring your own

- Abdalaziz Alsousi (7 years ago)

A: Yes. About $16-$20 plus ammo fee unless you bring your own.

- Clinton Maddox (7 years ago)

A: Yes, we only require all guns have sights. No unaimed shooting allowed.

- FOP Range Inc (3 years ago)

YOU MUST BE A MEMBER TO SHOOT HERE. I drove 25 minutes out here to try the range and consider membership only to be told I could not shoot without first being a member and going through orientation. that wouldΓÇÖve been nice to know before I drove out here.

Most folks writing here are reviewing the shooting range; however, it is worth noting that firearms can be purchased through FOP Range, Inc. Back at the end of '23, I selected a Ruger rifle through Gallery of Guns and FOP Range was listed as one of the selected retailers in the Birmingham area. After contacting FOP by phone, I dropped by and made payment by credit card (they charge no CC fee BTW) to initiate the order. A few days later, I dropped by and picked up the rifle. At every step the FOP Range personnel were pleasant to deal with. Also, the price was rather nice, in part because the sales tax rate is lower than most other retailers in the Birmingham area.

The owner of this place clearly does not want to operate the public portion of this range. I attempted to shoot there this Saturday morning. I have been shooting there on and off for nearly 20 years. I had a pistol permit that had expired two days earlier and was turned away by this place. The state of Alabama no longer requires a pistol permit but this place still does. The no cash transactions is a nice touch too. Each time I go there, they have new signs with new regulations and rules. It feels like going to the DMV. Needless to say the public range was empty as was the parking lot. The parking for the private sections of the range were also empty. Just close the public range if you donΓÇÖt want people to use it. I just went on down to the Cahaba WMA public range and had a great day of shooting. FOP range gets one star based on nostalgia alone. There is nothing to recommend this place now. Additional comments 10/16/23. I appreciate your timely response to my initial review. I can understand your attempt to keep the wrong element from using your shooting facilities. I am sure the members appreciate this. I would not want careless and or intoxicated/impaired people shooting next to me either. I was clearly neither intoxicated nor impaired when I entered the office Saturday. I did have a valid driver's license and very recently expired pistol permit showing the same address and photo as my driver's license. My firearms were unloaded and in their cases. I had taken time off work Saturday to test fire a new rifle and sight in an older one. Needless to say, I was frustrated to be turned away. Your employee working in the office was not rude but was also completely inflexible and legalistic per your direction as he told it. I can understand the no cash policy during the early days of Covid, but that is three years ago now and there is no good reason not to accept cash payments at your facility. US currency is "legal tender for all debts public and private". The Covid argument is completely spurious at this point. It is your business and you can run as you see fit. Perhaps this business model is a money maker for you. It is definitely not an inviting atmosphere for someone who is interested in frequenting your range a few times a year much less a first time visitor. I do most of my shooting on a private farm, but especially during deer season I don't like to disturb my neighbors hunts with sustained gunfire. It was nice to be able to come to your range occasionally and know it was a good place to shoot. You really should make it clear that yours is not a public range and that you are not really interested in the general public shooting there though.

After slanginΓÇÖ a lot of lead over the years, this is by and large the best range I have experienced from the standpoints of value, enjoyment, safety and customer service. The ROs and management of the range place safety above all else while still maintaining courteous, helpful service to members and non-members alike. As a member, you get to enjoy the full breadth of what the facility offers; the value of which is immense when you consider what you get for a yearly membership. The only intolerance that the management has is unsafe and irresponsible handling of firearms; their safety rules are common sense and most importantly enforced. Act like a moron with a remote hole puncher in your hands, and youΓÇÖll be asked to vacate the premises - which is exactly what competent range management should do. Be a responsible shooter and youΓÇÖll find the best place in central Alabama to go pew pew at. 10/10, will clang steel at as long as this place is open.

FOP is the best outdoor range in the Birmingham area that doesn't require an extensive membership process. Their rimfire and pistol courses of fire are honestly the best I've seen. Their rifle range is only 100 yards, but other than CMP or private gun clubs, that's pretty standard. I highly recommend them.

Why do I need to show a permit to shoot a rifle or a shotgun here at this place nobody else does

DonΓÇÖt waste your time.. Aside from the rude old man at the counter we arrived almost two hours before closing and was told it to late. There literally wasnΓÇÖt a single person there, using the range so it wasnΓÇÖt booked. We returned the next day, this time I forgot my permit so I told my husband IΓÇÖll just wait in the car. The rude old man said I couldnΓÇÖt wait in the car we both had to leave. Being a business owner myself I donΓÇÖt allow employees to be rude especially when they are at the front of my business. Not saying we were being discriminated against but our second time there, a person was in front of us and he wasnΓÇÖt talked to in the same manner. The clerk never even looked up when talking to us. We will just go somewhere else..

Awesome range. Always clean, calm, and well maintained. The membership is well worth it, much better than the other indoor ranges IΓÇÖve been to in Birmingham. 100% recommend

Range is pretty good, not the best but definitely better than the WMA ranges in terms of setup and safety. Membership is pretty easy to obtain, just need to follow the requirements on their page. Only real complaint is their attitude. Not fond of people who call out critical reviews on Google or yelp on their social media page or remove comments on such channels. A pro 2A establishment should also be pro 1A. There are much better alternatives in the Birmingham Area if you are willing to drive, if not, then this one will serve your needs. Again, just realize criticism is not wanted nor listened to at this range. Still canΓÇÖt believe they blocked me on their social media page because I supported someoneΓÇÖs opinion. I donΓÇÖt even get that treatment from the most liberal of establishments.

I am deeply disappointed in the changes and the discriminatory treatment they gave me in that shooting range, in addition to asking for my driver's license, they demanded my weapons license, which I also have! As an American citizen, I am very disappointed in you after enjoying these facilities on other occasions. Thank you but I will not spend my money with you anymore

The range itself is nice, good assortment of targets at various distances. The lower rating is for this reason, you have to be careful on the public range based on who is there . IΓÇÖve met a lot of cool people there, more than once though i encountered inexperienced shooters being unsafe, sweeping others with their muzzle. The range officer was more focused on admonishing a shooter that may or may not have shouldered a stabilizing brace, while a member continued to fire after the light change & the range is supposed to be cold. Overall, it comes down to who is there & who is running the range. Edit: I would like to add these incidents occurred over 2 years ago. Hopefully this is not the case Also what is up with the social media for the place? ItΓÇÖs always a long winded boomer rant reminiscent of internet 1.0 era.

New member here, and a great first trip! The enrollment process couldn't have been more simple. Once I signed up I had an informative safety briefing with all my questions answered before I could even ask them. David did a great job with this. When visiting today I met Lee and he couldn't have been a nicer guy. You can tell these folks really take pride in their range. Everything was clean and well organized. It's awesome to see people who are passionate about what they do and want a positive and safe atmosphere for others to feel welcome. I only visited the center fire steel range and the rimfire steel range today but I'm really looking forward to visiting the rifle range next visit. I hope to come here enough that they get sick of seeing me 🤪. Side note: I saw some other members too and everyone was professional and safe as well. It was exciting to see kiddos learning and being safe. Can't wait to build memories with my daughter here.

I really appreciate this range, safety is the top priority. You go to Hoover to shoot you might get shot by some guy who can control his muzzle when rapid firing his AK with one hand or you might get a loaded gun pointed at you unintentionally of course while they're loading but still top reason I don't go to HT anymore as they seem to let any person off the street shoot as long as they have money. Nothing better than an outside range too.
