FreeState Gun Range

Q: Do I need to be a member to shot at this range
A: No.
- lovinamauri1 (4 years ago)
Q: Do you provide guns that can be used?
A: They have a variety of firearms available for renting, plus ammo. But I'd call about ammo just to make sure.
- Tre Parham (3 years ago)
Q: Do you have to have a HQL in order to purchase a handgun or any gun legally??
A: Even if you are an Honorably discharged veteran you still need an HQL to purchase a handgun. You do not however have to take the training course.
- Michael Richardson (7 years ago)
A: Yes unless you're a honorable discharged veteran or you're a law enforcement officer or retired law enforcement. Even if you meet one of these I do still believe you have to go through the proper channels and complete paperwork with Maryland State Police prior to purchasing.
- Chris Taylor (7 years ago)
A: Only if you have never purchased a gun before October 2013, I had a gun in 2009 and I didnΓÇÖt need a HQL
- Ava Walker (5 years ago)
A: Yes what they said is true...great class at freestate
- Charles Jones (7 years ago)
A: Yes
- Ron Holliday (7 years ago)
Q: How much does it cost to go in learn about guns, and shoot in the range?
A: Youtube stuff like "firearm safety" and "muzzle discipline" etc before you go. Once their ask questions. See their website on classes, range time, and rental (if you've never shot they may start you on .22 caliber). Ammunition cost depends on how much 22 ammo you want.

A: How much does it cost to shoot
- Bonnye Kline (4 years ago)
A: I am not sure how much the classes cost the website should tell you everything I own my guns for a long time I never took classes
- 0 O (6 years ago)
A: They have an HQL class that you should look into
- alan harper (6 years ago)
Q: what do you need to purchase a handgun
A: To purchase a handgun in Maryland you will need to get an "HQL" (Handgun Qualification License). FreeState Gun Range AND OTHER PLACES, offer the short 4 hour classroom course so that you can get your HQL. The course will also include, as I understand it, a short amount of time FIRING a handgun. Once you have your HQL (like a license for a car except for a gun) you can purchase a handgun. But, just like ANYWHERE ELSE (Some gun store, gun show, or FreeState Gun Range) YOU WILL NEED TO GET A QUICK BACKGROUND CHECK. (All these places will just use you Drivers License & run the background check to make sure you are NOT A FELON, or you DO NOT HAVE A RESTRAINING ORDER for threatening someone, etc). So for most normal people, just schedule time to take their class, get your HQL, then pick out & pay for your gun. Use respect & pay attention to the lessons they are teaching (e.g., "NEVER point at anything or put finger on trigger unless you intend to destroy the target"
- Daytona Greg (6 years ago)
A: It's best if you go with your id and an hql form. But if you go they will help you with the entire process.
- gerald townsend (7 years ago)
A: I suggest you call them and ask.
- Bob Fisher (7 years ago)
A: Depends on where you live ... Google the requirements or call freestate
- Nukem Al (7 years ago)
A: Money and all the proper state and federal requirements (i.e. fingerprinting, HQL, I.D.)
- Park Chin (7 years ago)
Q: Do you need to take a course before you can start using the firing range?
A: No, but they will assist you if needed.
- Chris Rhine (7 years ago)
A: If you have a misdemeanor gun charge can you go to the range
- Tyrenia Reynolds (5 years ago)
A: No but you should have some experience or go with someone who has experience
- Nukem Al (7 years ago)
A: Yes! Depending on your experience level with firearms.
- Bill Heidel (7 years ago)
A: No. And if yiu need assistance
- PC 2 (7 years ago)
Q: Can u shoot if u have a felony
A: thats a pretty redundant question -__- . ofc you can't , why would they allow someone with a criminal record to handle a deadly weapon ?!
- Nishi-no-akuma88 (4 years ago)
Q: Can you bring your own amminition? Can can I shoot 556?
A: No steel case ammo.
- gerald townsend (6 years ago)
A: Only brass 556/223 is fine
- Nukem Al (6 years ago)
A: No tula unless it's the new range safe kind.
- Will Brown (6 years ago)
A: No steel core An Brass Only Case Ammo
- Steve Vandyke (6 years ago)
Q: How old do have to be to shoot at range

I took my HQL and carry class here and Stephanie was the best instructor you could ask for. Since then I received my permit and have purchased multiple firearms from them. The staff is great, very knowledgeable and donΓÇÖt try to upsell you on anything. Love the environment. Highly recommend if youΓÇÖve never been. Great firearm selection, great range and great people all in one location.

Amazing MD Wear & Carry Permit experience! Stephanie was an amazing instructor and Josh handled the fingerprinting efficiently. She kept us engaged and awake throughout the 2 day event. This was my first course through FreeState Gun Range and will be signing up for more.

Freestate is an awesome place with fantastic instructors who are incredibly informative during classes. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Dane! He did an amazing job keeping everyone engaged in our CCW class. However, I had a less-than-ideal experience with one of the representatives. While waiting to qualify, I asked if they sold Glock slides, and the first response I received was, "We sell real guns here," followed by the person walking away. They later turned back and said, "No, we donΓÇÖt sell them." I donΓÇÖt mind if someone isnΓÇÖt a fan of a particular brand, but thereΓÇÖs no reason to make someone feel bad about owning that particular firearmΓÇöespecially in front of a big group of people, who may also have that firearm. A simple, professional "no" wouldΓÇÖve sufficed. For the great classes and instructors, IΓÇÖm still giving a high recommendation, but IΓÇÖve taken a star off for this negative interaction.

I can't recommend Free State and their incredible staff enough. Everyone is so helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. I know whenever I enter the door someone will greet me personally by name. Always a great selection of firearms from AR platforms to handguns with good prices. Range is great but I would warn you to get there either early or there will be a little bit of a wait. They have plenty of classes and even one on one training.

I did my Maryland Wear and Carry + DC permit course here It was everything I expected for a basic permit course. IΓÇÖve already been through classes of this nature all the way to advanced pistol training classes. I must say though, do your own research about applicable laws and firearms handling afterwards. I like how they do the class, range, and fingerprinting all in one package. Be aware that there are two separate buildings for the course.
