Questions & Answers

Q: What happen to all the benches/tables etc. Went by this am and there was nothing there. What gives? Thanks

A: Like normal, idiots come on the range unsupervised and drag them down the range and shoot them to bits. I have a current letter into the board offering to make them metal ones.

Q: I have a bum knee that acts up sometimes. Can I bring a small dirt bike out there to ride to the back berm to change targets?

A: Mr. McCowan. I am not an official representative of the George Nourse Range but having been a citizen who has had the privilege to use it, I would guess that as long as those who participate in the same lane will unload and step back from the firing lane, it would be safe for you as long as your small dirt bike fits between or around the boxes. Most people would be polite and would be happy to help you. I know of no rules to stop you. Good luck and maintain good safety rules for everyone.

Q: Just curious who owns this place?

A: Well, I know that the Canyon County Commisioners run it with an advisory board. I dont know of an address, but you could forward anything through the clerk of the county commisioners to the board. I think its community owned.

Q: Are there any individual lanes where there isn't other people shooting next to you so you dont have to worry about walking out to check targets?

A: All the lanes can contain more than one shooter, they are wide enough... if you park your can across a smaller lane though noone else can shoot there, I've seen a few do that.

Q: Is this range open to the public?

A: Yes, it is an unsupervised open public range.

Q: Do we need to bring our own targets?

A: Yes

- Damian Tanner (3 years ago)

Q: Can you shoot a crossbow at the range?

A: I have personally only seen one person with a compound there, but i dont see why not... a range is a range. Just remember to bring something to shoot at.

Q: Who would I get in contact with if I want to do a egeal project there.

A: There is an advisory board for the range, they can be contacted through the County Commisioners Clerk

- Malcolm Diamond (2 years ago)

Q: What's the longest distance I can shoot there

A: 87 yards safety 100 is maybe one range that is hard to get but most lanes are 87 according to a Bushnell range finder

- Kristian Lewis (2 years ago)

A: 100 yards.

- John Smith (5 years ago)

A: Both ends of the shooting lanes are long, they meter at around 97yds if you count from inside the burms... however, both ends are easily 100yds if you roll your car back a little (your on the end, noone needs to get passed you lol

Great local shooting range no RSO. Somewhere between 10-12 lanes can share some lanes

Haven't shot there yet, but everything you need is there, except target frames. Bring your own.

Went here the thanksgiving morning early. Had a great time with my brother in law. There were plenty of bays to park near, everyone was occupied shooting and tailgating together. It was a great experience and hope you have fun here too!

The only thing better is if George could be there himself.

This place is also known as Pickle Butte shooting range. Get there early if you want the long-range.

Well I can't give it 5 Stars because although I went there all of the ranges, like 10-15, were occupied with some of the larger ones being doubled up on. But 2 weeks ago there were only like 4 or 5 in use at the same day of the week (Saturday) and the same time of the day (around 3PM). But my friend that had never been there at all said he liked the way it was set up. I do recommend a folding table and chairs. Certain items cannot be used as targets.

The range was clean of debris. The bathroom was nasty. We used sani-wipes to clean the toilet seat. Our church group has a safe and enjoyable time.

A little far from town, so make sure you got everything you need before you head out there. Spacious range, and beautiful location, sometimes I'd just stretch and look out over the valley behind me in between shooting.

It's awesome to have access to a free outdoor range, with that being said, it being a free to the public kind of thing, you have more inexperienced and zero safety awareness types. If you bring children, please always be aware of where they are; I have had kids climb over the mound of dirt to our side. For a place that's open to the public, it's a pretty clean place. There is a porta potty although I have never used it

The George Nourse Range is a nice distance from town. All the roads are paved to get there. There are 12 lanes to shoot from. The distance is about 80 yards, some are slightly shorter. They have put concrete blocks at the beginning of each lane. There is a vault toilet available near the front gate. There is no shade structures what so ever, so in the heat, prepare to get hot. In the rain, prepare to get wet. It would be very nice if they put up shade structures at each lane.

Please pick up your targets and brass when you finish. This is a great range to shoot at and it's free if cost but there are shooters that leave terrible messes behind. I always haul out more that I bring in

Good place for new and experienced shooters. No pressure for learning. Open and unrestricted for tactical practice.

I love being able to go to the range and not have to wait on others to go down and check or reset my targets.

It was a 4 due to being completely free with few restrictions. Not anymore, unfortunately.

They used to have nice tables to shoot from, now there is only concrete blocks. Better bring your own table and chair!

Its a good range that can get busy and crowded on a nice day. Its unsupervised, so everyone has to be accountable for themselves to keep it safe. They've removed the tables that used to be there.

If you shoot here, beware of an old man and woman who will pick up the brass around your feet after you shoot. I was out here shooting and the old lady is swearing at some guy with his kids picking up brass. The old guy was screaming something about rakes and cops. It was funny to watch but kinda crazy.
