Questions & Answers

Q: Is there a 100 yard lane/area on this range?

A: I would say it's between 75 and 100 yards for the longest range lane.

- Aaron Standiford (10 months ago)

Q: Is it acceptable to use a 22 cal rifle on the pistol range?

A: Definitely. I've seen shooters use larger calibers that the pistol side too.

Q: What all do I need to shoot at this range ,legally?

A: You will need your firearm, ammo, and target material, no targets on the range. Also, hearing and eye protection.

- bluebeast1562 (a year ago)

Q: What do I need to bring to shoot my pistol? If I bring paper targets, is the backstop wood, so I can staple my target?

A: No backstops on the range, you will need to bring some way to secure your paper targets in order to shoot.

Q: Does this range allow movement shoots? Such as shoot from the 25, move to 17, shoot etc etc. Or is it a stationary shoot only?

A: I don't see why not. Only problem is if there is another shooter on the range trying to shoot as well.

A: No targets. Bring you own targets and stand. Covered benches are provided.. I believe the burm is at 200 yards.

It's great to have a free outdoor range. I had lived in Wisconsin and like other areas with free ranges, people like to use such facilities (as others have noted) as a place to drop off crap, only to shoot it. One free range in Wisconsin was brand new when someone decided to shoot up the shooting benches. They would shoot microwaves, glass bottles, porta-potty, and so on. Then, people would complain that some ranges would have an application process and charge a yearly fee. All I can say is, know how great you have it to live in a free country with remaining free ranges. Don't ruin it for others, because once they close, that's it! You don't know how good you have it until there aren't any more ranges period because a small group of people can't/don't respect something free. Lastly, I had been in law enforcement and relied on free ranges (as there was only one paid to shoot ranges in my area) to keep my skills up. Also, think of the little ones that we are trying to bring up as future gun owners and hunters to be honest, responsible, and respectful.

What the hell is going on, it says the road is closed but it looks like itΓÇÖs been cleared and should be fine to go though. I tried and call the visitor center and I got nothing. ItΓÇÖs a really nice gun range I hope they arenΓÇÖt getting rid of it.

Not sure what is going on. Access to the gun range is being denied. Anyone going ther is getting ticketed.

It's a good public range. No frills, but that's a plus in my opinion.

Outside and peaceful when I was there. Not the biggest gun range, but who cares! Get out there and have some fun.

It's free, no people babysitting you. Respect other's right to be there too and have a great time. Bring your own targets and don't forget tape or stapler to secure it, bring steel target, cardboard boxes or whatever, just remember to bring back whatever you bring with you there. It's a good place to have family or friends with, zero guns, skeet shooting, just about anything is allowed. REMEMBER THE SAFETY RULES THO.

A great place to practice shooting drills or just go out and have a good time! My buddies and I love to go out there, bring some cardboard or wood and blast it until itΓÇÖs a nice powder. Just remember, if you pack it in you pack it out. Shoot whatever you want as long as you have the decency to pick up after yourself

Have been to this range a few times, nice to have a place to practice firearms with. Like that they have both long gun and hand gun ranges. It is unfortunate that dirtbags leave their trash behind, garbage cans on the lanes and a dumpster as well. Just today, 22 July, as I got to the range at the crack of dawn, some redneck turd decided that instead of throwing his/her vacuum cleaner away, he or she decided to haul it to the range and use it as target practice. Come on people, do better, this is a free range, keep trashing it, they will take it away. See something, say something.

An impressive gun and archery range. I’ve been going to this range off and on for about 10 years and it’s a nice, safe place to shoot. 🇺🇸it’s SAFE 🇺🇸it has a porta- jon 🇺🇸it’s 100% FREE and open to the public 🇺🇸it’s located about 2 miles from Land Between the Lakes and Lake Barkley 🇺🇸 it has plenty of room for multiple shooters and covered firing positions with wooden pedestals for safe firing postures and weapon handling All in all, a well kept firing and archery range located next to a major Kentucky state park. Plan a day trip here, come and shoot your guns, go up the road and catch some fish and put your boat in the water. 🛶🎣🔫

ItΓÇÖs not worth going here. The facility is fantastic but all of that is meaningless when you have forestry officers like Holland attempting to infringe on citizens exercising their 2nd amendment rights and following every rule of the range. He uses scare tactics by threatening federal charges for things that make no sense or totally incorrect. He must have some strange vendetta against Soldiers or the Constitution itself. Maybe the physical standards of being in the Army are what drive him to hold a grudge against any Soldier that want to better their craft in their free time, on their own dollar. Whatever the case may be it makes shooting here totally not worth it.

A nice range that is a blank stale. You bring your targets, shoot, pack up, and go. It is unfortunate that people leave their trash out on the range when there is a dumpster and trash cans at the benches. The archery range has accurate 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 yard backstops. I would recommend bringing your own target to shoot into or additional material to help stop arrows and bolts.

We visited the archery range which was nice. 10-50 yard targets set up. Covered area with a few picnic tables available. We had a good time, it was empty on a Sunday afternoon.

Not bad place as long as your there at sunrise, then all to yourself. Very busy place since free. But if firearm lanes are full, you can shoot your compound bow or crossbow at archery lanes.
