Hawkeye Wildlife Shotgun Range & Archery Range

Q: Does it have to be a shotgun or can I bring my handgun and rifle as well?
A: The shotgun and archery range is for bow and shotguns only, but there is a seperate range for rifles and handguns just east on amana road.

I enjoy both the archery and shotgun ranges. The elevated archery platform was a welcome addition a few years back.

The archery range is great. Please be respectful of the rules and do not shoot broadheads into these targets. Broadheads damage the targets and reduce their effective life.

A good place to go shoot some clay birds. In the winter be sure to drive a something with 4 wheel drive because the roads aren't the best at times when there is snow and ice.

This is a simple skeet range that is owned and maintained by the Iowa DNR. There are 12 concrete pads with two poles in each side (denoting the firing arc) that are spaced about 10 feet or more apart from each other. This range is unmanned, much like the rifle/handgun range just up the road from this. Being unmanned, you must bring your own clays and throwers with you. For a minimal skeet range, this is actually quite nice. The location is pretty, with the range looking towards the south, meaning the sun is never really in your eyes. For being a free, public range it is quite clean as well. I would recommend shooting here if you are looking for a place to get together and shoot with friends without having to pay a range fee at a hunting/shooting club. Great for those just wanting to get outside and smoke clays.
