Nice place to shoot, but you gotta bring your own target.

Great outdoor range. Be aware..it is not like an indoor range where there are range masters, etc. Only 1 person at the rifle range beside us. Bring your own targets and stands and communicate with your fellow shooters and you will have a good time.

It's been a while since I've been there. They have made some much needed improvements. No more mud, and drainage. The only thing that would make this range excellent is having shade. Maybe a roof.

Couldn't ask for a better place to send some rounds down range without having to do the same to my bank account. Wear boots, unless you want to lose your Crocs in the mud. Also, please be aware of your surroundings as well as the shooters around you, don't be the soft brain that walked down range without warning while I and another were about aim.

A great place to target practice. Pros: Free. Shooting benches are available. A generally amiable atmosphere. Nuetral: You have to bring your own targets and something to hang them. Not a bad thing, just good to know. Of course you also need to bring your own weapon and ammo too. Cons: If it rains it's a mud pit. Like lose your shoes mud. On dry days it's on a really dusty dirt road, don't wash your car before going unless you like being frustrated. No shade. All in all well worth going and getting target practice in.

I enjoy this range. ItΓÇÖs free and IΓÇÖve met some cool people there. However as soon as someone says steel plates up at 10ft IΓÇÖm out. Ricochet is real and people donΓÇÖt believe in it. Last time the pistol range was empty and some people were in a long range with pistol targets, set up at about 10 to 15 feet away from the bench. Sucks when youΓÇÖre trying to sight in a rifle and you have to use the middle range. Common

Decent range, I go there often to zero in and just to shoot some targets. Some people don't adhere to the rules though. Two young guys were shooting, two lanes over while I was down range after acknowledging it was cold. Then said it was my fault and they couldn't see me. Think I'll start going somewhere else so I don't have to deal with idiots like that.

Really a good range. It is free, mind you, so the expectations I had going in were low - but I was pleasantly surprised. There are three shooting areas: one for handguns (short range), one for rifles (medium range), and one for rifles or rifles with scopes (long range). If I remember right, it is 25 yards, 50 yards, and 100 yards but I may be wrong. There are tables to shoot from as well as use to lay equipment/unloaded gun/ammo on, and there are a few "lanes" to pick from at each shooting area. It is generally clean/neat, but as with any outdoor area where people congregate in numbers, there are flies and bees in summer. I love this range because it is free and honestly in good condition for a free state range. There are shooters of all types: one day I went shooting, the man in the scope range had a very powerful scoped rifle that took a bit to calibrate, and the person in the handgun range seemed to be quite green with firearms. People are helpful, polite, kind, and generally clean up after themselves. It is sort of 'self policed' for much of the day, eg man on the range someone will yell out to make others aware to ensure safety is followed. There are a few older gents who come along to pick up used brass for reloading. Please if you go shooting and do not intend to keep the cases, bring a plastic baggie with you, pick up the bullets, and leave it on the shooting table/bench. Keep Iowa clean and the range clean and help those who reload save some time. Highly recommend this range - thank you State of Iowa for providing this range!

Go early to ensure good time and less crowded. This range is all year long. Steel tables and some of them donΓÇÖt rotate so they donΓÇÖt work. Range have distances of 25,50,100 yds (they are not accurate in my halo range finder the 50 yds was giving me the only 48 yds. The terrain rough and gravel road to get to the range, if is raining or snowing make sure you have 4x4. From Thursday afternoon and weekends expect a lot of people. DNR need to improve more the area for hand gun and rifles.
