Q: Does anyone know how far out you can put a target for rifle?
A: They have fixed steel targets at various distances up to 800yds+. You can also put up your own paper targets on the 100yd range during ceasefire.

One of the best outdoor ranges in Salt Lake County. The staff is really helpful and know their stuff about safety and firearms. It's near impossible to find a range that goes clear out to 800 yards so close to home if you live in Salt Lake. I second that this is a good range to zero your scope. Prices are very reasonable and everyone I've met there has been really friendly. Plus you get a target included with the cost of admission.

Can't believe I only recently found this place! But, pretty happy that not too many know about it, as it was nice to have the range to myself. Paper targets out to 100yds, and steel targets all the way out to 800yds up the mountain. They also have small gongs to hit at 400yds. Awesome place to zero in long rifles, and shoot pistol.

Been going here since 2000 when the steps were timbers but not much else has changed. This is a 2002 photo of my son shooting .22. Well run. Safe. And the manager/owner is a great guy.

The staff is great and they will work with you to make sure your event has what it needs. The facilities are great and top notch. Wit a 800 yard long range for big bore rifle and the standard 25 yard for everything else.

Great range, very friendly staff, steel out to 800 (talked to the owner during fire season the steel side of the range is shutdown). You cannot shoot any bi-metal bullets (like wolf) on the range for those wondering. Ammo selection was very sparse for .223/5.56 last time I was there so I would highly recommend bringing ammo with you or calling in advance to confirm what they have in stock before you make the trip if you need ammo. I wish they were open longer than 5pm, especially on the weekends and it would be nice if there steel was painted in something highly florescent to index faster. All in all though great range definitely worth the drive.

The "range master" harasses you with a vacuum cleaner at the shooting table if you shoot reloadable casings.

Hands down this is my new favorite shooting range in the area. $10/shooter/day. Tons of space. They have targets out to 800 yards for rifles and as close as 5 yards for pistols. There is also a tactical range, skeet range, and machine gun range. Rifle/pistol range is outdoor but covered. We didn't go see the other areas, but I'll add more info next time we go. It was cold and wet when we went (second week of January). All of the benches and counters on the range were wet, even under the roof, but there were only two other shooters on the range so it was really quiet and we had a great time. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be frequenting this range.

My favorite public range in the SLC area, hands down. It's the only public range in the area with steel targets at range. Many of the reviewers do not seem to understand that PMAA stands for Police Mutual Aid Association. It is a POLICE range, on lease from Salt Lake County, that is open to the public when it's not closed for police training (Wed and Thur, and some other times.) Dave, the RO, is NOT the owner, nor does he have the final word about closings, steel being shut down for fire hazard and whatnot. PMAA and the county control much of that. Dave is a great guy and will make sure you have a great and safe time shooting there to the best of his ability. If you see unsafe behavior from some knucklehead on the line, by all means tell that person and tell Dave, he is not shy about giving people heck or telling them they have to leave if they can't follow the rules. Great place, I can't imagine anybody has a better place to go within 30 minutes of SLC.

No cages between the benches means you constantly get smacked in the face with the next guy's hot brass. The range officer was more concerned with getting my casings before I could collect them for reloads; while he was busy with those during cease fires, other shooters were handling firearms (actions closed mags loaded in one case) and messing with ammunition and magazines while people were down range. In 30 minutes I saw more dangerous behavior than I could track and had to tell shooters to step back from the bench several times, including a parent who was letting his child (probably 6 years old) handle a rifle (magazine in, action closed) during a cease fire. The range officer needs to start enforcing basic range safety rules before there is an ND during a cease-fire. The whole reason we went was for the long range steel targets, which are closed until further notice despite a week of soaking rain.
