Islip Rifle & Pistol Range

Q: Can i use my shot gun on out side targets there
A: Yes, but I believe itΓÇÖs slugs only and bench shooting, no standing.
- Tom M (4 years ago)
Q: Can i shoot my ar15 there?
A: Why wouldn’t they? Wait….is this a “loaded question?” Are you Mayor Goldberg? or Woopy Bloomberg?
- M Rock (2 years ago)
A: What Caribou said. Unless you're an LEO. Also, they're not going to be checking if your AR is registered. Just be respectful. The rangemasters are very competent there and will treat you according to your behavior.
- Jonathan Rivera (6 years ago)
A: As long as it's NY legal or registered. Also only slow fire sitting at bench. Call the range for info, they are open now. Remember only 10 round magazines or smaller are legal under safe act in NY as well.
- Webmaster Caribou (6 years ago)
A: Does ranger close for LEO training! Years ago it was constantly closed for qualifying and it was a very poor arrangement!
- pjoseph911 (3 years ago)
Q: Can I rent a rifle to shoot - I do not own one and am interested in learning how to shoot.
A: No, they don't have any guns to rent. You have to bring your own.
- Teleoceras (3 years ago)

A: You can now call the Range in saturdays 10am- 330pm Someone WILL ANSWER

A: Phones ARE now fixed! Very sorry for inconvenience
- Vanessa D (5 years ago)

A: No rentals SORRY
- Vanessa D (5 years ago)
A: Outdoor range bring your own
- Bill Koepke (7 years ago)

A: Its community training lol. Just follow the range officers orders.

Had an excellent time at Islip Rifle and Pistol Range. I attended the Concealed Carry Course. My instructors Mike and Steve were very informative and my classmates and I received way more time with the weapons, after classroom sessions, to become familiar and comfortable with them. Best part, once you attend their class, youΓÇÖre part of the family. Meaning you can go to their range, if availability permits. I would recommend the range itself, instructors and course to everyone.

Great place to sight in (50 yards with a berm right behind the targets). Range masters keep things under control quite well, without being cocknockers. In fact, they are some of the nicest guys your likely to meet. Many shooters are familiar faces, who shoot week after week. All good guys, having a good time. If you canΓÇÖt have fun here, you donΓÇÖt like shooting, or you are anti social.

So, as I was speaking with a fellow shooter at this range. The range officer (a war veteran and retired LEO), overheard me mention the word "training"', and he quickly interjected, and I quote "training, training for what?", you can't say training." Along with not being able to shoot silhouette, animal(game), targets. I'm confused. Isn't the range supposed to be the place you go to feel comfortable while exercising your 2nd Amendment right, and the 1st Amendment as well? The place to go to become proficient with the firearm we own. (train┬╖ing- instruction, teaching, tutelage, schooling, education, grounding, guidance, etc, etc, etc... In ending, why aren't there more days available for it's citizens? (Non-LEO Range Day-regulated to one shot every 2 to 3 seconds or more depending on the RSO. LEO Range DayS-Sounds like training for war. Just an observation).

Well kept very friendly staff . Everyone including other shooters. It's very safe. I don't hunt. Except I would love to go wild hog hunting . That's on the bucket list. So I do enjoy shooting.. Thanks for your range and keeping it open

As a first timer, I'm not familiar with outdoor shooting ranges. I was alittle discouraged about a shooting range. Vanessa , an employee at the Islip Rifle range changed that feeling for me. I was immediately greeted very pleasantly and all of my questions were answered. Shes extremely knowledgable. She made me feel very comfortable as I should be . I would definitely recommend this outdoor range and if you have any questions, ask for Vanessa.

I've revised my review as I've spent some time shooting here. This is really a nicely run, safe, outdoor 50 yard range, run by friendly and helpful people who love the 2A. My Dad is an Islip resident and a senior, so it only costs him $6, while I pay $24 non resident. It has not been crowded at all this Summer, so we've not had to share a lane or had a time limit imposed. The targets are not fixed like at Calverton. You select a wooden target stand and place it in one of the steel stands that are spread throughout. There are a bunch at 50 yards and you can move them closer as desired. When done, just take your target and put it back for someone else. I enjoy shooting here. Do NOT confuse this place with the South Shore Shooting Range, which is further south on Freeman Avenue in Islip. That is the facility which has recently been upgraded and is excellent. This is the Town of Islip range, which is right off Spur near the So State Pkwy. The hours posted on Google are NOT accurate. The Town range is outdoors and has extremely limited hours. Hours of Operation: Dec-May: Sat 10am - 4pm June-July: Wed 4:30pm - 6:30pm; Fri 10am - 3pm; Sat 10am - 2pm August: Fri 10am - 3pm; Sat 10am - 2pm Sept-Nov: Sat 10am - 4pm and Sun 12pm - 4pm

Very rude staff. Felt like I was back in basic training. One staff guy kept telling me my weapon was suppose to be pointing down range when every one else had theirs leaning on the bench pointing up. Told me he almost got shot in his foot by a AK47. I wanted to tell him I almost had my brains blown out fifty times by an AK47.
