With a 25yd pistol range, 50 and 100yd rifle ranges, 5 stand and 2 skeet/trap ranges for shotgun, and 1 each static and roaming archery ranges, you could spend an entire day here. They even have 2 charcoal grills and 2 large picnic tables. The staff are all friendly and helpful and keep good safety protocols, the ranges and concrete walkways are well maintained, and the restrooms are clean. Everything is free to use, though you will have to pay for your clays, a staggering $3/round of 25. That's a gift at .13¢/clay, private clay grounds are .50¢/clay and higher. You need to bring your own ammo and paper targets also, otherwise, there's no cost. It's fairly isolated, so don't count on good cell reception.

Nice facility but the unreasonable amount of rules and procedures stifles any chance of having an enjoyable experience. Have shot on many ranges, including military ranges, and have never been nit picked so much and had to jump through so many hoops just to shoot. Safety is one thing, but this place is ridiculous.

Hyper-active oversight. More rules, interruptions, and hounding than any range I've ever visited. Annoying, disruptive, very unpleasant. The range officers take the pleasure out of the activities. They will interrupt you, constantly look over your shoulder, even start messing with your firearm without your permission. (ex: action not locking back or mag not dropping they will literally come over and touch your possessions without your permission). If the range is hot and you reach under the table to retrieve brass, they will tell you can't do that when the range is hot. Then when the range is cold and you try, they tell you to get behind the line and away from the table. Then in either case, they are apt to get a broom and be reaching around you to get that very same brass. This range would be good if there were no range officers. Most ranges have none and people understand range hot/cold and firearm handling rules.

This place has it all 50, and 100-yard rifle ranges, a 25-yard pistol range 5-stand skeet/trap archery ranges. One of the RSOs is a walking encyclopedia, and the CRSO is awesome wish it wasn't over an hour away but more than with the drive.

Noah and his crew keep this range in impeccable order! They are all helpful and super safety orientated. We have only used the skeet and trap, but the five stand, rifle range, pistol range and archery range are available for all your sporting needs. The fireplace in the lodge will surely warm you up on cold days, and picnic tables and grills available. The restrooms are as Immaculate the as the the rest of the complex.

Wonderful place to shoot for free in NC. all sizes of rifle, shotguns, pistols, etc. Just bring your own ammo, targets, and appropriate range attire. You literally don't even need eye and ear pro, they'll provide this free as well. They also have clay pigeon and archery. I will return.

I just have to say that we had an awesome day and great experience at the John Lentz Hunter Education Center today. The staff there was amazing and carry the core of what customer service is all about. The Wildlife Conservation Officers were amazing, as one of them noticed Joe's condition and not only took his time, but explained and taught Joe how to shoot the bow and arrow. The food truck smelled amazing, although my family wanted something else. Overall, I'm grateful and excited we took the drive and went to this event. We will definitely come back!

Very nice range definitely worth the drive from Raleigh. Archery range is well maintained with two targets at 20 yards then one every ten yards from 30 to 60. Grass is short making arrows easier to find. Be aware the archery range has no overhead cover and there aren't any trees near the shooting line so there is little to no shade so bring water, sunscreen, and aim to arrive earlier in the day if you come in the summer.

I lived in another state where I was blessed with a pubic range that consisted of dirt, and few old benches. Here for some reason with a public range comes power tripping personnel who make it worth paying money to go to a privately owned range. I may be paying someone else money to shoot my own ammunition through my own firearms, but at least I'm not watching an instructional video, taking a quiz, carrying around a certification card, arbitrarily being told to cease fire and clear my chamber, and being told when I can remove my hearing protection and gun from its case. Never going back and I would advise the state of NC to save money and stop paying these range managers' wages.

I drove an hour to get to the John F. Lentz Hunter Education Complex and it was worth the drive. The fairly new and very clean facility includes 25 yard, 50 yard, 100 yard ranges as well as two archery ranges and two skeet/trap lanes. The employees were super friendly and knowledgeable. Use of the facility is free! (FREE) You just need to watch the safety video and get a range pass. Bring your own ammo and targets, but you can buy clay targets if your going to do skeet/trap. You can shoot handguns, rifles, and shotguns. Please note that as of 12.11.21, Google maps will still try to take you to the old entrance which is closed. So keep in mind the entrance is on Millstone Road (1017 Millstone Road to be exact). Look for the signs I've included with this review.

What a great place to spend the day. The renovations look fantastic, ranges are clean and well kept. Both pistol and rifle ranges give you space and room to shoot regardless of capacity. There is a bow area with 3D targets too. The real shining light is Noah the RSO. He was super helpful, informative and kind. We'll be back many times. Thanks Noah & team.
