Q: can you shoot steel targets?

A: Yes

Q: Is this range open for use right now

A: There is no owner of this place. It is just a spot that was picked out in the middle of a national Forrest. I doubt that it will be open for the long term since so many ppl that go there don't clean up their trash and junk is just accumulating and the surrounding residents are tired of all of the noise and trash. The place is a great place to go if you want to get away from all the concrete and just enjoy the lower stress of the outdoors and shoot for free without any fees or strict oversight. It's a privilege that will be revoked eventually if things don't start turning around. All I say is go there and have a great time, just take whatever trash you bring with you when you leave so the range stays open and accessible to everyone.

Very sketchy setup with very poor firearms safety. No clear established firing lines and vehicle coming in and out adds to that chaos. YouΓÇÖll be hard pressed to shoot past like 50 meters anywhere here unfortunately. Place is also trashed

John Wick Wednesdays are the best here! So many people come out to reenact many scenes, but with loaded guns...no weak stuff! Keep the parking lot blocked off for the driving and shooting scenes too. So glad to see a place with open rules like this to allow us to do whatever we want

I usually go during the week in the morning and there is rarely anyone there. Except one time there was a older gentleman with his wife who was using poor gun safety so I was sure to let him know that he definitely needs to take a gun safety course as he could easily hurt himself or his wife. All in all a great free place to shoot. The ride from my house in highlands Ranch through deer creek road is absolutely beautiful. Stay safe and be vigilant

This place is awesome little dirty because people don't take their trash with them when they leave all the time but is going to be moved probably at the first of the year to another location so enjoy it while it lasts the new location will be manned

Great to have an outdoor range. Other shooters have been polite and friendly. Only concern is that too many people leave trash. Please bring trash bags and leave with more than you came with (except of course the lead!)

Place was insane. There were people setting up targets on top of the berm amd shooting at skyline towards nearby camp sites. Amd everyone was staggard 30 feet from one another shooting. No common shooting line amd folks way in front with people shooting from behind.

Very good outdoor range. You need to exercise your own range control and clean up. It's a very beautiful spot, don't forget to declare hot or cold range. Practice safety and respect within your neighbors as many are regulars or locals that clean up the area. So do your part and stay safe

It's a very short range, you'd be hard pressed to get 50yds to target. Also very small, I don't plan on going on the weekend. But with no one else there and only doing handgun drills, it's a great little place.

Overpacked free for all. Last trip was spent watching a brand new shooter with no interest themselves in shooting was being "taught" how to shoot by an extremely inexperienced man/boy. If it wasn't such a long drive, I wouldn't have stayed a minute longer, so half my time was making sure they didn't have accidental discharges and they had ZERO muzzle discipline. The girl literally said "why does it matter if I point the gun at someone when it's empty?" Be careful here, lonely kids come here attempting to show off to their friends with zero interest in guns. They were 10 feet behind the firing line shooting like that's cool. Everyone was staring at them the entire time for their own safety and instead of leaving I asked them to at least move up to the firing line so no body gets shot while you whip around a 12ga, subcompact and .22 rifle like they're toys.

In my experience this place has excellent potential it just doesn't have the funding or the resources on hand to make it happen. There used to be a volunteer group that would once a month come out and clean up and make things nice and neat but that has stopped recently it needs to have a new organized group volunteer to make it happen again but this place is peaceful out in beautiful mountain environment nature and essentially a huge wall of dirt on the side of the mountain that targets are set up on and whatnot. I have seen instances where proper range etiquette and different things happen that should not have and it was easily corrected but for the most part people are good about calling cold and hot and different shooting safety measures are followed although not perfect what do you expect. With the right opportunity I would transform this range into an amazing place like no other range but that is just something that is in the works I'm trying to decide what I want to do. I am out there quite frequently I'd say several times a week and try to help pick up any trash and kind of try and help maintain the place a little bit and I have a couple others that help all the same but it is starting to get a little out of hand in my opinion and I wish people would at least take whatever targets they're shooting at after they're done back with them and dispose of them somewhere properly. Just my thoughts I guess other than that please come out any day of the week rain or shine and unload some clips have a good time be safe and see you out there

Small range thatΓÇÖs close-ish to Denver area. Best when itΓÇÖs not too busy. Was also able to manage a FWD sedan through the inch or so on packed snow there, at the time.

Great range but keep in mind itΓÇÖs on the smaller side. PICK UP AFTER YOURSELVES PEOPLE!! Try and bring a trash bag for yourself and clean up for 10 minutes, it really makes a difference.

Just pulled up to shoot and there was an absolute joke of a firing line established and one guy shooting off a semi-auto rifle (ak variant from what I could see) in what could only be described as uncontrolled and a hazard to everyone around him. Doubt IΓÇÖll ever come back. Waste of gas and time. CouldnΓÇÖt even pull in because of the unsafe firing line. Apparently this group has claimed the range for themselves for the day. Absolute embarrassment to the sport and a slap in the face to the ΓÇ£ownerΓÇ¥ of this range.

Great shooting range. It is a bit small in a few ways (it can only hold about 12 vehicles and the same amount of shooters, the farthest distance you can shoot here is about 45-55 yards, etc.). Other than that it is perfect. Nestled into a nice spot near Buffalo Creek. The best part about this range is that the last few times we went there was a very nice gentlemen who "runs" the range. He has extra eye + ear protection in case someone didn't brig any, etc. I last went up there with one of my good friends, who happens to be dea and has never shot a gun previously, and the range-man helped him properly hold weapons, tested his grip and by the end of the session, he was shooting 5" targets at 45 yards with a handgun. Most of the people you see here are seasoned veterans who know how to handle a weapon, but sometimes there are novices. The veterans will always help the novices in many ways. The range-man brings a bunch if rimfire targets, water for washing hands, sanitizer, etc. He really makes this range worth attending, even on days when it is packed. Making sure everyone knows the laws and keeps the range safe at all times. Happy shooting!!! Pewpew!

Currently camping with my family just south of this area and listening to rapid, semi-auto fire at 8:55pm. So much for 7:30pm closure… This place is an accident waiting to happen. Update: final mag dumps at 9:06pm. The stated goal of this range is to encourage responsible behavior when shooting on national forest. That is not accomplished and telling concerned individuals to “call the police” is not an effective method to managing your facility. Just drove through first thing in the morning and the range is a disgrace. Can’t believe you’re allowed to operate and trash our national forests.

This place rocks! I have been here serval times with different people and every time I feel comfortable, relaxed, and safe. Yes, once in a while people aren't smart enough to just shoot at only the mountain, but then every time someone else stops them, and tells them what's up. I could not ask for a cooler free place to test out firearms safely. Thank you

I was so upset when we arrived and saw everyone shooting in different directions. No one following the rules. A clearly inexperienced shooter had her gun pointed toward the roads' direction and was shooting aimlessly toward the street! Such a shame because we were so excited to experience this place.

ItΓÇÖs been a few years since IΓÇÖve been here. Looks like itΓÇÖs a named spot now. But things definitely have cleaned up a bunch since my last time, which is great. Hoping to get back this summer combined with a nice twisty drive. Hopefully itΓÇÖs not too crowded all the time now.
