Manchester State Forest Shooting Range

Last time I was there I couldn't believe how the Shooting Range looked. It was not the same it's poorly kept. They want $5for daily pass but should charge $1 buck.

Range permit is $25 / year (online)and the range is open every other weekend. Very quiet and seldom busy. RSO are friendly. You can also buy a day pass for $5 at the range. Overall excellent price as most private ranges charge $35/day.

The politi-FUDDS at the State Forestry Commission have reduced this once-popular range to a dump. Sumter deserves a better range than this and the hard-working range volunteers who kept this place together deserved better than to be lied to and shown the door when they asked for a few meager privileges.

The simple polite summary is I will never return to this range. For those with sensitive ears, stop reading. For those others, This place is so pants on head retarded and asinine if it were possible to leave negative stars I would. The staff is racist. Rude. Mouthy. Opinionated. And arrogant. Ive visited several times simply because it's closest to my home. I will GLADLY drive the extra hour or so to SANDHILL SHOOTING SPORTS where they treat you with some respect. At this range ive been racially insulted, disrespected at every visit, and outright lied to about times of operation. Ive been harassed about firearms operation, and at one point one of the range 'masters' threatened physical assault when I dropped an empty mag back into my range bag BEFORE they had ever called cold range. This place needs a serious rework of management, and if I had names besides 'Jackass 1, 2, and 3' I would happily leave them.

I contacted this place yesterday to see if they were open on Saturday. Talked to two individuals both said they were going to be open. They answered my questions on what I would need to bring. Went there today around 1000 gate closed even though their website said they were open. I will not recommend or even attempt to go there again.

Went out there the other weekend and the staff was repetitive for safety purposes. Very informative and had instructive criticism when shooting good solid groupings.

Shot here 11 Aug 18. Staff was courteous and professional. Only open every other weekend so check the website's calendar before you plan a trip. $5 is s small price to pay for a daily pass. Target stands provided, benches to shoot from, nice restrooms, rifle range out to 100 yards and pistol out to 50. Gets the job done when sighting in your rifle or familiarizing with your pistol. There are some interesting rules, so read them ahead of your trip so you don't show up and get all pee-pee hearted when you can't do something out there you wanted to do.

As stated by the other reviews the site is never open. Twenty-five dollars for a membership that gives very little time to shoot. What gives!?

The Staff is a bit arrogant and mouthy. Targets and benches are old and not well take care of.

Never open even when the message on their voice mailbox and both websites says they are. Don't bother. Saturday at 1:15pm, sunny and 75 degrees. Same the last 4 times I've checked. If you like unreliable hours, poorly maintained backstops, walking through knee high weeds, and ant infested shooting benches this is your place.

Great place to go shooting in a budget. The target post holes need to be repaired/replaced and marked to help with locating your lane down range when moving your targets. I really enjoy shooting here when they're open.

Closes for no reason what so ever makes planning range weekends impossible.

A couple of years ago the new director/supervisor/boss/whatever decided that the volunteers who staffed the range, and who also maintained and supplied the target frames, weren't cutting it. After a couple of get togethers and earnest solicitation of suggestions, the volunteers were unceremoniously dumped in favor of paid (minimum wage, of course, with no benefits) range officers. Over the past year or so the range has gone to seed, the target frames shot to pieces, the cross ties in front of the frames as well, and now open every other weekend. My opinion is that personalities brought this about, and the losing personality is the man in charge, whoever he is, but that the real losers are the people who use the range, or rather, used to use it. It is a shame, too, because it used to be a good place to shoot.

I purchased a membership, waste of money. 2 of 3 times that I have returned since the first visit they have been closed due to inclement weather...aka 70 and sunny. The 3rd time they were just closed with no explanation. These all occurred on a Sunday around 1400. The staff was knowledgeable though a little arrogant. I am done trying, will never be back.

Friendly environment, professional gun range personnel, safety is the #1 priority, is a safe family fun range even for kids in the earliest shooting training and firearms awareness, handicap friendly, clean restrooms available, $5.00 all day but only opens to the public Saturdays and Sundays RM
