Northwest Texas Field & Stream

Q: Do you have to be a member to shoot there?
A: Yes, you do. As I recall the cost for a 1-year membership starting in March is $50 the first year and somewhat less thereafter

EDIT (Christmas 2024) Maintenance of shooting bays had gone from bad to worse. I usually use the 15 yard range for pistol training. Last few times I was there, only 1 out of 3 steel target stands had any wood panel on them to attach your targets to and that one had had no space to staple a target at. I was glad that I had a cardboard box in my car that I could duct tape it to the whatever remaining edge it got left so that I could put my targets on them. If it goes like that from now on, I will switch to Red River gun range membership. This is ridiculous. END EDIT After getting t membership, this was my first time at the range here. Unfortunately, the ranges are in need of major repairs and clean up. Members who use the ranges do not clean up their refuse properly. Target boards are covered with used up paper targets. Ground is covered with spent bullet and shell casings. I also realized another thing: using the ranges in summer is out of question. When I visited, it was past 6 pm and it was extremely hot and uncomfortable to be around. But this was expected from an open air range I suppose.

I finally made it out to the range after being a member for nearly two years!!! We had a fine family plinking but, our ranges could definitely use some love! (mowing, weeding, landscaping, structure work). It is the middle of summer though!!! Maybe the kids and I can put in some volunteer time this fall. Bottom line... the low cost of the membership makes up for any aesthetic complaints. I think this is a great organization to be part of.... not just for range access but, all the shooting sports programs they offer as well.

With the ammo shortage it's been awhile since I went to the range and although somewhat out of practice it was a great day with great weather and good to be out of the house and relaxing.

The range is well maintained and not far from the local airport. The use is limited to members of the Northwest Texas Field & Stream Association at a reasonable cost ($50 annual membership fee as of 2019), and the entrance into the range by a swipe card (which costs a one-time $20) is a plus. I would recommend the association and the range to anyone who's interested in the sport.

I love the number of ranges. Only wish there was a range where I could stand and shoot my rifles instead of having to sit...
