Questions & Answers

Q: Are laundry's and showers available Nov. 30- May1.

A: Yes, in the East Campground

- Greg Britton (6 years ago)

Q: Are dogs on a leash allowed?

A: Yes they are but be aware of snakes and other wildlife

- Cole Mckinney Intake (5 years ago)

A: Check their website, note answers above. Regardless, I would highly recommend against it. This is a very harsh environment, and not set up for dogs. You and the dog may be much happier if you leave the dog at home. Up to you but something you might want to consider.

- Ross Just a guy (5 years ago)

A: Yes, here's a link to their faq page where you can get to their pet policy: http://www.nrawc.org/wc-experience/lodging-and-camping-faqs/

- David Wells (5 years ago)

A: Not sure, I would bet so but check their website

- Ron Bledsoe (5 years ago)

Q: Is there an EV charging stay there?

A: Sorry, I don't know, you will have to contact them. Also, I doubt there are many, if any, in the whole area, very sparse population.

- Ross Just a guy (5 years ago)

A: What Ross said. I seriously doubt it

- Ron Bledsoe (5 years ago)

Q: What range can you shoot 223/5.56 at whittington Center?

A: Nathan, There are a couple of ranges where a 5.56 NATO round may be shot. There is a 200yd sighting-in range that is popular . The 1000yd. range is being overhauled, or was last August. But it is challenging to shoot. The only problem with 5.56NATO is you can't shoot steel targets because of the damage hi-velocity rounds do to the steel. It's a great place to shoot and just a great place to see. Hope this helps. John Holden

- John & Bonnie Holden (7 years ago)

A: Hiii Nathan , I can't answer your question. We played the convention in August out there. We had a great time ; awesome facilities. We stayed in the cabins. We were treated royally . Great time.

- Vernon Calton (7 years ago)

A: Range 6,7,8,13 are usable for .223/5.56 small bore center fire rifles.

- Doug Milner (7 years ago)

A: not sure may be 200 yrd

- Indian Village (7 years ago)

A: There is a range that goes out to 200 yrs. It is the one they will send you to with an AR. There is a bench and room to shoot sitting or prone. You van set targets at various distances.

- Jim Coggins (7 years ago)

Q: In the photos was a beautiful wagon. Does anyone know it's history and previous owner?

A: ItΓÇÖs part of the display for the Santa Fe trailer crossing.

- Alex Kunze (8 months ago)

A: It sets on the Santa fe trail

- Michael Shumate (8 months ago)

A: Do they know who it belonged to before it went to the NRA

- Simon Garcia (8 months ago)

Q: Thinking of staying here, RV spot. We have a small puppy and wondering how loud the gunfire is at the campsites?

A: Jeff Minimal, both east and west campgrounds are far enough away you don't hear much

- James Vandyke (a year ago)

Q: Do the cabins have coffee pots?

A: Not the small log cabins, but the larger Founders Cabins and the Competitors Housing units do.

- Stephanie Phelps (a year ago)

Q: Carry nd conceal classes?

A: Yes they have concealed carry classes periodically

- Brenda Schnelle (4 years ago)

A: I believe they do

- David Harral (4 years ago)

Q: Does NRA rent out firearms?

A: Not that I know of.

- Steve Case (5 years ago)

A: Nope

- Roy Tomlin (5 years ago)

A: They only have the ranges that I know of. Like someone else said, you could probably only get a loaner if there is some kind of event going on

- Jake Rieger (5 years ago)

A: No, not when I visited anyways

- Welsh Streetracer (5 years ago)

A: No they do not rent firearms.

- Joel Hatfield (5 years ago)

Q: Are campgrounds accessible in April? When does snow melt?

A: Just chilly at night and most likely windy in the day. Not unheard of sno3 in April.

- Kim Apodaca (5 years ago)

A: Not too much snow at all in winter but by April it will be fine

- Bryan Edlund (5 years ago)

A: I was there in July 50 in morning maybe 80s during the day

- Roy Tomlin (5 years ago)

Our first time here, we reserved an RV site for one night. We noticed that their check in time was 3:00pm so I sent them an email asking if we could check in early. We didn't hear anything back, so we called and were told as long as our site was available we could check in early. We arrived at 2:00pm, pulled up to their drive through check in and the young lady said " pull up over there". We thought that they would have someone take us to our site since it is a large complex. After pulling over and waiting for 30 minutes, we got out and went inside the building. The lady we first spoke with was gone and now a gentlemen was at the desk. He said that we were suppose to come into the office to complete the check in process, he didn't even apologize. We explained that the lady just told us to pull over. Very frustrating! After finding our site, we noticed that most sites were not level, ours was better but still not great. The hornets were so bad that we had to be very careful getting in and out of our RV. The area was beautiful and very quiet. I don't know if we will be back after the horrible customer service that we received. It seemed to us that the staff didn't want to be bothered. It is a shame, because the location is fantastic for us.

We rv there twice a year four a month plus, views are beautiful, always sèe lots of wildlife, you don't need to be a target shooter to enjoy the property, you can hike, take photos, relax enjoy a peaceful night sleep , stars are amazing . Shooting ranges are really fun steel knock down targets, plus other special ranges, something for everyone. Lodging is very nice .very nice gift shop, and museum on site . Staff always makes us feel a home, all our shopping needs right in Raton.

They have a very impressive museum. Shooting grounds are amazing. The area has shooting grounds, camping, old mining town and so much more. Spent a few hours just driving the area and viewing the museum. The gentleman in the museum was very knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. The museum also has a very nice gift shop.

This is for folks looking to stay at Whittington Center, Cabins or RV Spaces. Everything at Whittington is absolutely top notch. What an incredible place for the Sportsman! Except if you need to do laundry. Don't outstay your clean clothes. The Laundry that is with the Cabins has 2 washers, cold water only & 1 washer doesn't work. The laundry in the E Campground had 2 washers & 2 dryers, $1.50 each and are all in poor condition. Took me 4 hrs to get 3 loads washed & dried. This was very surprising to us as the rest of Whittington is amazing. 10 miles to the laundromat in Raton and it get terrible reviews Not sure what you do if you stay beyond your clean clothes, but don't let this stop you from an otherwise incredible experience.

Very impressive property. In my opinion, the best part of the museum was the stories about historical figures who used some of the weapons shown. However, it was disappointing to see grammatical errors on the accounts of the historical figures and the description of the covered wagon outside. You need to have better editors for your written descriptions.

Great facility. Family oriented. Mining town tour. Disc golf, archery, air rifles. Too many ranges to list. People are awesome. Not expensive. Fun museum! For all you can do - great value, too.

For shooting enthusiasts, the Whittington Center is hard to beat. With 25 ranges, two campgrounds, a museum, and a gift shop situated on 33,000+ acres, there is always something to do. We enjoy camping (all pull thru spots) each year with the various shooting teams. Very UTV friendly. Deer and antelope are plentiful and often wander through the campgrounds. Whittington staff do a wonderful job hosting youth shooting sports. For shotgun sports, they boast 3 sporting clays courses, 4 skeet overlays, 17 trap houses, and 2 5-stand courses. Beautiful scenery, but can be windy.

Initial thoughts are it's a really cool place. We were in the area for a 4H Archery and target shooting competition I was thoroughly impressed. I'd like to explore and spend more time here.

Awesome place. Plenty of room to camp and shoot. If the campground appears full donΓÇÖt fret the ranges were almost empty. The Heuten mine and old town are neat to walk through if the 2 mile range isnΓÇÖt closed for use.

The premier gun range in New Mexico with ranges available for all types and calibers of weapons. They have a nice gift shop and provide training facilities. The facility sponsors one of the premier shooting tournaments in the nation.

Beautiful place to put an amazing facility. What can be said other than if you like to shoot (just about any gun, just about any distance), you HAVE to stop by here. Rent a cabin, bring your trailer or tent. For sure you will want to stay more than one day! Truly wonderful folks on their team - we just had over 50 people for a meeting and team building event and they took such great care of us! You will not be disappointed!
