Questions & Answers

Q: Can someone post of schedule of when the guy that likes to scream works so I know when to not go to the range?

A: His name is Larry. He complains about about everything and likes to yell. I think it is time for him to hang it up and retire.

- Whiskey Maintenance (5 years ago)

A: I think I know exactly who you are talking about. I donΓÇÖt think they have a public schedule but when I go there and he is on duty I turn around and go home. TOTAL UNPROFESSIONAL

- Chris Spielman (5 years ago)

A: The only time I've seen a range master scream is when someone doesn't follow safety rules. Especially on a cold range. Touches or goes over the line toward guns when the range is cold. Hand guns action open, unloaded, rifles open in the rack, unloaded. Basically if a safety rule isn't being followed I've seen range masters get loud. The range masters may be aggressive toward those that don't pick up their brass.

A: If the range wasn't so close and cheap I would not go there because of the older heavy set guy not sure if his name is Larry but I flat out told him to not be a jerk last time I was there

- Social Photography (4 years ago)

A: There isn't a Set schedule for the RSO's. It changes weekly

- Sandra Thomas (5 years ago)

Q: Do I need proof of ownership of my firearms?

A: No. Just fishing license and sign in on clip board when you get there

- ME (3 years ago)

A: Is this place usually crowded.and can we shoot drakos and ar pistols from the shoulder here

- Richard ΓÇ£RickΓÇ¥ Sherrill (3 years ago)

Q: Whats is the cost?

A: It's free if you have a GA state fishing license. If you don't have your license you can go to your local fish and tackle store and get one or purchase online and print it out. Cost is $15 - 18 just for fishing on and more for hunting. I do recommend shooting there the staff is friendly but stern about range & gun safety but you will a great time. Its laid back and nobody to bother you.

- Michael Evans (6 years ago)

Q: Have they put up any new targets there yet for each lane or do you still have to bring own target to shoot at.

A: The last I was there ~Oct 2022, you still had to bring your own everything.

- Vince (2 years ago)

Q: Is the pistol range open on sundays?

A: yes

- Greg Hall (a year ago)

Q: Are air rifles allowed?

A: Yes

- Steve Hajec (3 years ago)

Q: Are these DNR officers on the clock and will they interfere with anyone shooting let's say an AR pistol from the shoulder??

A: That's not their job. It's not illegal anyway.

- Steve Hajec (3 years ago)

Q: Is it free with a GA fishing or hunting license so there's no other charges?

A: It's free with a hunting license.

- Steve Hajec (3 years ago)

Q: Are you able to bring a friend to shoot with you?

A: Yes

- Steve Hajec (3 years ago)

Q: Is this range suitable for shooting a Smith and Wesson 380

A: Yes

Great place to take new shooters to get familiar with firearms. No RSOΓÇÖs are on sight but everyone that was out there followed all the rules of gun safety when handling their firearms.

Pictures uploaded to Maps by others don't do justice. There was MUCH more debris on the ranges and in the dumpster. The ranges are littered with make-shift target/stands. No DNR RSO present. People were friendly and safe.

There are decent shooting benches and the ranges aren't badly overgrown. It's exactly what you shoukd expect from a public land range. Bring your own targets and target stands.

Bring the RSO's back. Nobody cleans up after themselves when they are not there.

For whatever reason this range is now self-governed and open to blasting away with whatever you brought....and it's much better for it. There are no longer dictator RSOs, nor closed lanes for "insert bogus reason here". But don't think it's all chaos and rampant safety violations. What has resulted is a range where shooter can go enjoy a day of shooting. We still work together to ensure a safe and fun experience. And we look out for each other. Please if you join us help us keep this range. Clean up after yourself, don't leave your trash. If you need help, ask for it. We are all sportsmen, and would be happy to help you put rounds downrange safely. Keep your language clean, kids practice here too. Sweep up your brass. We are fortunate to have an open range like this...don't screw it up.

There are 2 places to shoot. 1 place is for rifles, and the other is for pistols. You have to bring your own targets and stands.

Great range that was very busy on the Sunday afternoon that I last went down. Wish we had a range as nice as this closer to my home.

This was such a waste of time! We drove all the way out here and there was no stands the place was not well maintained and it was not very good I think that this was the worst shooting range I've been to.

Now that there are no RSOs it's been nothing but good times for me. When the RSOs were there this was my least favorite place to shoot.

This used to be an really nice range, but since they no longer have range volunteers working there it has really gone down hill. There was trash everywhere. The grass was super tall and needed cutting and the dumpster was spilling over with trash. The target holder frames are pretty much all gone and the two that were left were falling apart.

Went to the range Thursday Sept 1st 2022. I was shocked that it does not have Range Officers any more. Brass was everywhere. Kind of made me nervous because of confusion on cold range hot range from some of the other shooters there.

Had a great time at this range today. There are no longer any RSOs on site anymore, but most people there sharing the range with you will help clean up and call ΓÇ£HotΓÇ¥ or ΓÇ£ColdΓÇ¥ when accessing the range to change targets. Speaking of which THERE ARE NO TARGET STANDS there, so bring your own or be prepared to mock something up on site. Other than that, family and I had a great time.

This range is no longer staffed. Both the 50, and 100 yard ranges are available for use during business hours. Over half the target stands are missing. No supplies to rebuild the target stands any longer. Come prepared.

The price is right. Larry's has personality issues. The pistol range has never, in my experience, been open even when multiple RSOs are there. Why do you keep asking people to call you when the issue is obvious. Clearly since it's state run, customer service is not a priority.

Today I had the best experience I've had. Once you get to know the August gentleman he can help you tremendously. He made a suggestion about a way to sight in quicker without measuring and calculations. It worked in 2 shots. Set your pride aside and learn something. Remember these folks deal with idiots. It's got to be hard. Thank you Jen Pittman

Great day at the range sighting in my 30-06. Larry (RSO) was very knowledgeable and clear about expectations and rules. Everyone followed the rules today and everyone was in a great mood. No sign of rudeness like IΓÇÖve read about in other reviews. Highly recommend!

Two ranges (rifle & pistol), but the geniuses running this place keep making excuses on why they only have one range open. There's a significant wait time and the RSOs on site are not mentally capable enough to realize you can operate with one RSO per range.

Great range. Not over crowded and well maintained. Only issue was that the adjacent gun shelter/range was closed which could have allowed more shooters. I'm sure it was a staffing issue with personnel. Also would like to give some good feedback to Mr Larry the ROS that had some bad reviews on here...He was very courteous and did a good job keeping the range safe.
