Orvis Hill Country Shooting Grounds

Q: Is it possible to use the fields for dog training?
A: Call the number on the website. I know they do allow you to work with your dogs, but I'm not sure of the rules regarding this. It is a beautiful setting.

Q: Do they have rentals
A: Hi Chris, yes, we have shotguns that are available to rent.

Amazing course; great staff. From the Washington DC area and very easy drive to come up and spend a day. Would highly recommend and they now have a great wedding venue.

Recently visited (1st visit) Orvis Hill Country and was quite "underwhelmed"...I have been fortunate to travel the country and experience my fair share of some of the finest and the worst sporting clays in nearly all of the lower 48 so I feel confident in my ability to gauge a course...this place seriously falls short of the "premier" sporting clays claims. Don't get me wrong...I am an Orvis fan...so when the opportunity to shoot one of the acclaimed Orvis shooting facilities came when my travels brought me to Gettysburg, I was anxious to go. I'll break it down: The bad...small (and I mean small) gravel parking lot which is a precursor to the gravel cart path, having its share of ruts and worn out patches down to dirt. I was stunned to find each of the 15 stations included at least one "manual" trap and several had 2! Yes, manual traps (typically, each station had 1 maual and 1 auto trap). Don't get me wrong, it worked, but it does slow you down and limits target presentation. It's a relatively short layout loop that feels tired, lacks creativity and has a lazy, uninteresting feel to it. Targets were lacking...dull. The stations lacked aesthetical appeal...often overrun with spider webs and the stations had lots of "nicks and bruises" to the structure, showing age and lack of attention...needing some attention. The good...the staff was amazingly friendly and courteous and despite the short loop and lacking layout/targets, 2-3 of the 15 stations revealed some nice targets! So much potential but wasted with lack of effort. Now don't get me wrong...this course is as good as any other small regional course trying to provide an opportunity for area clay shooting enthusiasts a place to shoot clays. BUT...this is an Orvis shooting facility...the cost and the reputation alone should demand a better experience. This was not the case. You can spend a lot less and experience a lot more than Orvis Hill Country. To be fair, I cannot comment on the other amenities for hunting nor did I have an opportunity to shoot the five stand...but the "guts" of the operation (sporting clays)...was a bit of a let down.

Truly an outstanding facility. Well maintained with knowledgeable and professional staff. Excellent sporting clays and 5 stand with multiple variations at each station. Its location near Gettysburg, PA makes it a destination.

Me and my very good friend Yogi had a great time today even in the down pour! Our first time there we signed up as members. From the front desk which she was very helpful in our questions to the guide was so very helpful what a great guy to stick it out with us in the rain. Do yourself a favor and donΓÇÖt miss out on a great time. A great big thanks to all of the Orvis family today

Won't stop spamming me. My e-mail has been flooded with ads from this company. Would have never even had heard of them if not for the flood of spam from them. I don't even live close to these guys. Edit: True to their word, Orvis Hill has removed me from their e-mail list. I no longer receive spam from them.

I brought my boys out to Orvis Hill Country for the one day wing shooting school. I canΓÇÖt say enough good things about the experience we had. The land and facilities are really great - youΓÇÖd be hard pressed to find a more beautiful spot to spend the day shooting. But the people are really what made it so incredible. Friendly, hospitable and helpful. We worked with head instructor Jim Champion. My boysΓÇÖ experience and abilities are at very different levels and he did a great job of figuring out what each of us needed. He started by asking what we hoped to get out of the day, which sounds like a small thing but was a great start. JimΓÇÖs enthusiasm for teaching shooting is evident from the moment you meet him. He instilled confidence in my younger son and really got him ramped up quickly. His instruction on properly mounting the gun, and the reinforcement of that on the course was alone worth the price of the entire day. He was encouraging, patient and really tuned into everyone needs throughout the day. Again, I canΓÇÖt overstate how good he was. Jim and Orvis Hill Country get a 10 out of 10 from us. Incredible day.

I visited the Orvis Hill Country location yesterday. I took a private class with Danny S. I can tell you I was sincerely impressed with the facility and the level and knowledge of my instructor. The retail store was very clean, organized and fully stocked. You will not be disappointed at all! Look forward to visiting them again soon. Thank you to the team at Orvis Hill Country!
