They need more pistol ranges, they need time limits. no more than an 1.5hr rotate out give everybody time to shoot.

I've been coming to the Pigeon River FWA Shooting Range for going on 15 years now and while some improvements have been made - it has largely gone downhill over the last several years. They finally provided a range officer to oversee the firing line - a move that was much needed and appreciated. However, the one on duty today, 5/1/23, was incredibly unfriendly and unwelcoming from the moment I opened my car door to the minute I left. They used to provide a 'chicken wire' fence that accommodated the use of multiple targets along the berm, now each range only has a single 55 gallon plastic barrel per lane, limiting shooters to one to two targets of any reasonable size at most. We now spend more time going downrange to change targets than we ever did in the past. They implemented a brass policy only allowing shooters to pick up brass that they shoot - as a result the range is constantly covered in a layer of brass casings that have to be walked over and often render it impossible to determine what brass was even fired by any given shooter. At least one range officer is more than happy to stand over you and let you know that you can only pick up what you shot - as if it's reasonable for someone shooting mixed headstamp .223/5.56 to be able to identify the exact 200+ casings that came from their rifle. The DNR restriction on holstered handguns requires that people lawfully carrying disarm before signing in and renders the range useless for any meaningful practice. Which one would think is the entire purpose behind having a range in the first place. Being that this is a publicly funded, State owned and State managed property that is clearly not a sensitive place - I would question whether this restriction is even constitutionally permissible. If you're a reloader, intend to get any meaningful practice, and generally just are not sighting in your hunting rifle/shotgun for the latest season - I would avoid this range.

Been shooting here for years with my guns and bow. The bow range is really nice and the gun range they have a zeroing lane with 25 and 50 yds and then longer range lanes. And it's free so it's definitely worth the drive

They will not let you rapid fire. Shots must be 1 second apart. Not a good place to practice to shoot for self defence. They also don't have long range for rifles. I'm only giving it one star because it is free.

Love this place. ItΓÇÖs a quite out of the way range. ItΓÇÖs great place to Shoot a 100 yards. Has high berms all the way down the range. Helps protect you from the wind. I use this range to do my load development.

11092020, a very nice range. The place was busy due to hunting season. Check in with the staff was seamless and helpful. FREE to shoot here, bring hearing and eye protection. Police up your brass and trash.
