Questions & Answers

Q: Are the range staff really strict when it comes to the rule of having some sort of hunting/fishing license? Do all people visiting need a license? Do you check in first, or do you just setup and shoot?

A: You will need you liscense as in WMA PERMIT or hunting and fishing liscense Every time you sign in

- Robert Henson (6 years ago)

A: "safe now" Savmitch says. It's always been safe. Show me an accident here?

- Withheld withheld (5 years ago)

A: The range officers follow the rules as they are written, and it is really organized and safe now as a result.

- Savmitch1 (6 years ago)

A: Rules are strictly adhered to for safety. You check in first. Liscence or secial pass are required. First timers must speak with staff prior to using range. Range staff are very nice and polite but do follow the rules.

- Bruce Riner (6 years ago)

A: Alright thank you.

- Mike Garcia (6 years ago)

Q: I have a fishing license if I bring my wife does she need 1 as well

- Shelly Rutledge (5 years ago)

A: Bernard, there is no age limit for the range, If they are under 16 years of age they must be accompanied by an adult.

A: Just called them today and they said June or July. They said the weather has slowed them down. I don't know what weather their talking about ??? Just another excuse......

- Troy Rutledge (5 years ago)

Q: Any idea when they will re-open? I am wanting to go shoot a new Christmas present.

A: Just went by today April 24 and it is still closed.

- Christopher St.clair (5 years ago)

A: Last update on the DNR website said March.

- Joe's Journey (6 years ago)

A: I went by today (May 4 2019) still closed

- Joe S (5 years ago)

A: ill bet they are going to say June now lol

- Sean Shearouse (5 years ago)

A: Six months and it started in October.

- Don Sales (6 years ago)

Q: Can you shoot from prone, or just from a bench?

A: Prone is allowed after informing the Range officer. The prone lane shared space with the shotgun patterning space.

- Joe's Journey (6 years ago)

A: There are accommodations for prone shooting on the left side of the shooting line I do believe

- J R (6 years ago)

A: My experience, only bench and standing. Targets should be on level of firearm or slightly lower for berm to trap bullets and reduce ricochet.

- Walter Godwin (6 years ago)

A: Part of the renovations is increasing the height of the berm so itΓÇÖs safer to shoot prone. But yes you can shoot prone. I shoot the ArmyΓÇÖs qualification course of fire there with no problems.

- Armadiller Firefighter (5 years ago)

A: You can shoot from any positions youd like!

- Mike Avenancio (6 years ago)

Q: What licence is needed

A: I've you a fishing license that works fine

- Mike Avenancio (7 years ago)

A: WMA license from DNR

- Sindy Adkins (7 years ago)

A: State hunting license. Check their website for another type.

- Bruce Riner (7 years ago)

Q: If I have a Florida fishing license can I still shoot?

A: You must have a GA hunting or fishing license to access the property. Out of state patrons can purchase a 1 day fishing license and have access to the range.

- Richmond Hill WMA Shooting Range (2 months ago)

Q: How much does it cost to get in

A: It is free, but you need a GA fishing or hunting license

- Richmond Hill WMA Shooting Range (6 months ago)

Q: I have obtained my Georgia hunting license what other fees are there at the range?

A: No other fees

IΓÇÖm from FL and been station in NC for my career and let me tell ya, this is THE best outdoor range IΓÇÖve ever been, far better than military ranges or FL public ranges. Highly recommend!!

Staff was good and the range is nice, but extremely cramped. The lanes extremely narrow now because they have added too much!! The main complaint I have with the range??? Someone made a bad decision and tried to make it “too” modern. They have completely done away with the 100 yd rifle range where you can use paper targets. MANY shooters love to use paper targets, especially when they’re trying to see what ammo groups best in their rifles, for target practice or hunting. Now there’s technically ONLY “4” 100 yd targets that you can fire at, unless you want to pop steel targets at various ranges out to 100 yds. Some changes are for the worst and this is definitely one of those!! Unless they build on more or include a 100 yd paper range, like that which was once there, the range will die, IMHO. They need to take out the STEEL targets, separate it and ADD a FULL 100 yd paper target range again. I was there the other day and no one showed up the entire time I was there in over 2 hrs. And I checked back today and it’s not busy at 11 am. That’s the first time EVER in over 25 years of going to this range, it’s not been busy!!! I was last there in 2022, wanted to get back into target shooting and was horrified at the changes. Now that they’ve “modernized” the range, it’s got to be maintained, somehow. And I have a feeling they are going to start charging a price to use the facility. IF that happens, DO NOT waste your time nor gas!! If they start charging a fee to use the range, I will find a gun club to join. Whoever made the decision to make the range completely electronic and the rest steel targets, killed the enjoyment!!! And don’t even get me started on the handgun/AR-15/22lr side…

ΓÇ£Great staff! I went in to sight in my rifle, and the range officer, Kevin, walked me through the entire processΓÇöfrom bore sighting to dialing it in all the way out to 100 yards. The facility is clearly tailored to both new and advanced shooters.ΓÇ¥

Great range only improvement would be to add an area for paper pistol targets. They could be on cable to keep range continously hot. This is important when teaching shooting fundamentals.

The Richmond Hill WMA Shooting Range was an absolutely wonderful experienceΓÇöespecially as my first time at such a facility in the States! The staff were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to answer any questions, which made the entire visit enjoyable and stress-free. They created a welcoming atmosphere that truly made me want to return. ItΓÇÖs important to note that you must have a hunting or fishing license to access the range. If you donΓÇÖt have one, itΓÇÖs easy to purchase online, even on-site. Also, for first-timers, thereΓÇÖs a short instructional session in a comfortable classroom that takes about 10ΓÇô15 minutes. This step ensures everyone is well-informed and safe. The range itself is clean, well-maintained, and organized. ItΓÇÖs a fantastic spot for both beginners and experienced shooters. I canΓÇÖt wait to visit again!

So I usually go to this range all the time and have had nothing but positive experiences and good times. Staff is usually really friendly and have pretty good conversations with them a lot. However today we went and had a little different of an experience. Shot on the rifle lanes and zeroed our sights no problem. Decided to move over to the left side of the range and shoot at the steel targets. While doing so I was shooting at targets while one of their RSO was behind me. I ended up shooting a round towards a steel orange target. Turns out those are the .22 targets. I didnΓÇÖt intentionally do it nor would I ever want to mess up their targets in the first place. Just didnΓÇÖt realize it was a .22 target. I continue to transition over to another target and as IΓÇÖm in the middle of firing the rso decides itΓÇÖs a genius idea to hit the top of my head and yell at me that IΓÇÖm done. Keep in mind IΓÇÖm legitimately shooting a live weapon at this point with someone slapping the back of my head. DoesnΓÇÖt sound very safe to me. He then decides heΓÇÖs gonna talk down to us and tell us we better be picking up our casings. Someone clearly had a poopy morning and decided the range was where he was gonna show off. Real smart

Dialed in 2 rifles. Kevin and the other range safety officers were fantastic. The range is high tech and the tech speeds up your zero and gets where you need to be.

I’ve been coming to this range for over 15 years with my family. The older gentleman usually on the range is so kind, knowledgeable, approachable and always treats you kindly and without judgement and a willing attitude to help if needed. However, the gentleman who greats you at the office has a less than desirable attitude. Very gruff, assumed my age in the manner that told me if I was below 18 he was going to ask me to leave (I’m 30 and used to the assumptions so that wasn’t the issue) despite telling him I was with my father (clearly above 18). Despite range rules stating those under 18 can shoot and participate as long as they are accompanied by an adult of 18+. Very gruff and condescending man. The past few times I’ve been here over a 3-4 year span, the rules of the range have greatly increased. I’m all for rules and regulations especially when they are geared towards safety (I’m a stickler for safety which was instilled in me by my father who is a combat vet and and small arms instructor for the army) but not when it hinders your experience at the range. My family and I will no longer be able to make family trips and stay in a close proximity with certain weapons allowed in designated areas of the ranges and stricter ammo restrictions, hindering our ability to give each other feedback. I.e. hand guns only allowed in certain stalls at the far left of the range, rifles in the middle and shot guns in an entirely different section beyond the black fence. We shoot all 3. Which kinda takes the fun out of going as a family. I don’t feel it’s a place to have fun and hone your firearm skills anymore. It’s more business like: get in (if you can) squeeze a few and get out. That’s another thing… there are more hoops to jump through just to get on the range. It’s no longer just signing in and showing a hunting license and proof you’ve passed the hunter’s safety course. And coupled with the grumpy gentleman checking you in… kinda makes you wonder if it’s even worth it. DNR regulated or not, guest experience should be priority!

Was very pleasantly surprised at how nice the range was. Digital targets and steels, 100 yrd max if your wondering. Range safety officers were very polite, very helpful. Laser bore sight available, pistol range with dummys and steels. 25, 50, 100 yrd steels and target shooting. We had a great time. Archery range and little hunter area for archery practice was really cool.

Wow, times have changed. This range was clean, well organized and safety was strictly observed. There were range officers on duty. Being new to this range, we received instruction on the electronic targets and a tour of the ranges…even got help with my zero. I’ll be back. Things that are required: Ga fishing license & safety video, eye & ear protection, empty chamber flags.
