Questions & Answers

Q: Do they have a range for archery I'd really like to know

A: Yes they do. It's very nice.

- merlyn827 (5 years ago)

A: Please see www.slosa.org/archery for more details, prices, hours, contact info, and other details. Thanks!

- San Luis Obispo Sportsmen's Association (5 years ago)

A: Yes they do, it is at the far end of the parking lot.

- Kevin Jones (5 years ago)

A: They do indeed! I've never used it myself but it looks like it goes out to 50 yards with multiple stands and many different types of targets to shoot at. You'll drive past the rifle pistol and past the shotgun range to get to it.

Q: here got Range for rifle airgun?

A: There is no specific range for airguns, But Airguns are welcome at many of the ranges here. I bring my Airgun to every outing. Come out to the "Long Range" It's a left at Hogue range down the dirt road past Black powder. I'm there almost every Sunday morning with my 7.62mm Machine gun. It's full auto and runs on 4500PSI so it's not regulated by ATF! Just ask and I'll let you give it a go, It's a kick in the pants and it can chop a 2x4 in half at 75 Yards at a cycle of 1000 ends/min.

Q: Do they allow 12 gauge shotguns in their out door range? I am talking about just regular target practice with a shotgun, not skeet or clay. Thanks.

A: Hi, SLOSA does have a Trap and Skeet range. In addition, shotguns are allowed on the SLOSA Rifle-Pistol range under the following rules: 1. Shotguns with rifled slugs are allowed only on the rifle side. Please ask one of the RSOs for an older target board as the slugs tend to tear up the target boards pretty quickly. 2. Shotguns shooting bird shot or target loads (7.5 or 8 shot shell) are only allowed on the handgun side, shooting only at the one legged steel man target which is at 20 yards. Bird shot/target loads (7.5 or 8 shot) is only allowed on the steel target as described above. Rifled slugs can only be shot at a target at any distance on the rifle side.

- San Luis Obispo Sportsmen's Association (5 years ago)

A: I tried calling them earlier but unfortunately no one answered. Do you by any chance know of a range that allows shotgun practice with any type of shells. We are planning on practicing with bird/practice shots and have had no luck in finding a range that allows us to do so. Thanks.

- Excommunicado (5 years ago)

A: No..but they have a area you can shoot a shot gun with buckshot or slugs..but ask them so they can tell you where to go.

Q: are their fire arms safety classes offered?

A: There are monthly clinic "for women by women" called GALS. See the GALS tab at www.slosa.org for details, dates and contact info. Also, the range officers at the rifle-pistol range are also happy to give informal safety and technique introductions on an as-available basis. You are welcome to drop by the range during any of the normally posted operating hours (see the website). Eye and hearing protection is required whenever the range is active. If you have it, bring it along. Otherwise, we do have it available for loan at the entrance to the rifle-pistol range

I have been going here for about 3-4 years now and it is one of my favorite places in the Central Coast. The rifle/pistol range is a "BYO Gun" setup, but the shotgun ranges allow you to rent for Trap and Skeet. There is also an archery range with some fun targets. Travis and Wile E. at the shotgun range are awesome!

We had the best time with Raul learning archery today. His experience, knowledge, and sense of humor really made our day. We wish we weren't moving soon, or we would be back every weekend. Thanks Raul!

I've been shooting here for a long time and found it to be an average range, with typical amenities, but for some reason their "rangemasters" seem to take pleasure in scolding people. I Tolerated the attitude, but when they DOUBLED the price overnight, they lost my business. Shooting there is now unaffordable for a family. Yep. They did it again. They increased their rate by an unconscionable 50% overnight. It's now $30 per person, with no discount for members and no sign of improvements to the facilities.

Very well run range. Love having gongs out to 400+. Makes for some great practice. RSOs are on top of things so not any obvious knucklehead behavior happening.

I always have a great time. This is a very well maintained facility with great people. Can't wait to go back. Two things I do are the cowboy action shooting and the trap range. Everything is always very well kept and very in order this is a big deal if you've been to some other ranges. For our safety everybody needs to follow the rules.

IΓÇÖd give it six stars if I could! This is a top notch public range, possibly the best in the state. IΓÇÖve shot at ranges all over central and Northern California and this place is second to none. They have everything you can imagine from cowboy pistols, to archery, to long range. The property hosts regular shooting competitions, hunters education courses, and benefits for firearms and conservation minded organizations like Ducks Unlimited. If youΓÇÖre new to guns or archery this is a great place to start. We need more places like this!
