Q: How will MY paper targets stick to the cardboard provided? Do I need to bring tape or tacks? Or is there a (bulletproof) clip attached? Thank you.

A: The range provides range-owned staplers and staples for attaching paper targets.

- Vic Paladini (a year ago)

Q: What is the farthest shooting distance on this range?

A: Range #4, the public range, goes out to 400 yards.

- Vic Paladini (2 years ago)

Q: Is this range still open? The phone number listed on Facebook doesn't work and their website appears to be down.

A: Yes! The range is open IF a certified (non-paid volunteer) Range Safety Officer is present. On Highway 90, at the entrance to the range, if the red flag is up the public range is in operation. For up-to-date details see the rangesΓÇÖ Facebook page. The Internet website but there is an excellent web presence within Facebook. That web presence is kept up to date.

Q: What are your Tuesday hours? I would like to come there around 9:00 am.

A: Sierra Vista Shooting Range is closed on Monday and Thursdays. The public ranges for rifle and handgun shooting are OPEN on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday from 0800 to 1700 hours and on Wednesday and Friday from Noon to 1700 hours. Additionally, the range has an excellent shotgun range (trap, skeet & sporting clays events) that is OPEN on Wednesday from 1000 to Noon and again on Saturday from 1000 to 1400 hours. NOTE! All range personnel are unpaid volunteers, so occasionally due to weather, lack of a Range Safety Officer, or for an unexpected event the range facility is closed. A key is if the RED FLAG on the pole on Highway 90 is up - the range is OPEN.

- Vic Paladini (2 years ago)

Q: Do you have to be a member. What are the prices

A: You do not have to be a member. You can shoot for $6/day. Be aware that they only take cash. Annual membership is $45, which means no more daily fees for the public ranges. Best thing would be to try it once for the $6, and spring for the $45 if you like it.

- Robert Swiontek (3 years ago)

Q: Our family is coming in and would like to shoot. Is there such a thing as a day pass?

A: No day passes exist. The Public Range charges $10 / a day per shooter. Bring your own guns, ammo, eye and hearing protection, and if you desire, some paper targets. The Sierra Vista Shooting Range provides a target frame and cardboard for you to staple your target onto.

- Vic Paladini (a year ago)

Q: Hi. I'm visiting from Enland Is this range open to the general public Thanks Ian

A: It is open to the public.

- John D'Auria (5 years ago)

Q: Can I shoot my short-barrel shotgun here

A: Not on the rifle / pistol range due to wood target frame damage. But the shotgun range is open on WednesdayΓÇÖsΓÇÖ and SaturdayΓÇÖsΓÇÖ.

- Vic Paladini (a year ago)

Q: What r the things you need to bring

A: Gun, ammo, eye protection and ear protection. They sell ear plugs and targets.

I’ve been here twice before. Knowledgeable, kind yet firm range masters. They keep it safe without being grumpy. Which is so important when you’re first learning to shoot at a range and not in your hillbilly family’s back yard where there are zero rules 😅 Only the barest hint of political talk the last time I was there, thank goodness. People seem to be respectful of each other and understand we are all there to shoot, to learn how to protect ourselves, hone our skills and to be very safe about it. It’s not a political debate watch party atmosphere and for that I am particularly grateful. I don’t know all the lingo but there are things to staple your target to, staple guns, things to prop your rifle or carbine on, brooms to clean up brass, carpet remnants so you don’t scratch your equipment, chairs, tables, bathrooms. There are target distances from 5 yards all the way to 500 yards! The other cool thing is they are quite encouraging of women shooters. Not only do they collect the brass for the female shooting club to sell, they also hand out flyers to women with information about the women only shooting club, if being around all the men is nerve wracking. I was the only woman on my first visit and one of two on my second visit.

The Pistol Rifle range is nice, but the people who run it is on a power trip. A lot of Pistol Rifle people has left and goes to Douglas shooting range. It's short drive but much better people to deal with. NOW... The Shotgun range is 5 Stars, Well kept and friendly people. One 5 stand, 2 trap fields, 3 skeets, and they are in the process of acquiring a nice modern club house.

Range management has been enforcing nonsensical rules over the last 2 years like - not allowing shooters to fire "green tip" steel core ammo (for example 5.56mm M855). That means much of the AR-15 ammo owned by shooters can't be fired at this range now. If you talk to some of the range supervisors - they'll tell you.... and I quote... "you can't shoot incendiary, tracer, or green tip ammo because it is more prone to spark fires". I have been told more than once after asking. Of course, incindiery ammo will start fires, but lumping steel core ammo in with incindiary ammo as being likely to start a fire does not make much sense... Beside, steel core, all fmj has steel in the bullet jacket, and would be no less likely to cause a fire. Granted, steel core ammo will put holes in and eventually destroy steel targets and target stands over time. That's not reason enough to ban it after permitting it since at least 2004.

Myself and my daughter went there today for the first time. The RSO's name was Bob. Bob made it a great experience! The facility is nice and has ample space. They sell targets but are a little tough to see your hits without a spotting scope or binoculars. I would recommend giving it a "shot"!!

Range staff were super nice and accommodating. Gave a thorough explanation of the rules and helped me set up targets. Only gripe I have is I'd like if the kept political comments to themselves. I get gun culture leans heavily one way but I'd like to shoot and not have to worry about that.

$10.00 per person it's just a little too much for what they offer

My husband went to shoot his new gun here today. They basically threw him out. Told him he needed to be a member of the NRA. The person that spoke with him was extremely rude. There is nothing posted other than please sign in, which he did. Told him there was a $40 fee which was not posted anywhere. Other reviews have stated $6 fee which he would have been happy to pay. Either way, we will not be returning. My husband, who happens to be Mexican has never felt so racially profiled in his life, which is saying something as this is Sierra Vista.

First experience at the range was poor. Drove all the way out there wasting more in diesel than an active duty pass costs to be turned away since I didnΓÇÖt have $5 cash. No where on the website does it say cash only. DonΓÇÖt waste your time.

Awesome place to shoot. Safety first. Follow the rules, be courteous, and you'll have a great time. Nice shooting benches, targets, target stands available, hearing protection and safety glasses almost always available, but bring your own hearing and eye protection just in case. Staff are excellent and an all volunteer team.

Nice range. Well maintained. Very inexpensive. So long as the weather is nice it's a great place to go pop off a few rounds.

I donΓÇÖt understand the bad reviews people have wrote about this range. This place is really cool. Lots of steel targets placed out at different distances. Range MarshallΓÇÖs were nice and professional. IΓÇÖve been here several times and have always had a safe and pleasant experience. Keep up the great work guys.

Range safety's are not consistent when advising or enforcing safety rules lane safety contradics the range safety officer. Left the range and will use Post and leave the stupidity to the civilians. 20+ years military service in the Infantry, communications as a Senior NCO 50+ M4 ranges M249, M60, 9mm, M2 and Bradley gunner table 1-4 and heavy artillery. Only thing they did right was refund my fee...

This range is out of pace with any modern range I have visited in recent memory. The facilities are more than good, however some issues cannot be overlooked. Their main form of communication is Facebook, What!? The range website is no longer operational and when it was working, it was a throwback to the early 2000. The staff behaves as if you are 1) incompetent and 2) on a military range. They go as far as inspecting personal weapons to ensure they are on safe. Seriously? The whole place has a weird vibe. You know that feeling you get when you're around an overbearing out of touch supervisor, that loves to remind you hes the supervisor every chance he gets because he craves relevance like you need air? Its like that. If you have never experienced a normal civilian range and have only been on military ranges you wont be able to tell the difference, but if you have visited normal ranges you will be baffled by the way this range operates. This range has so much potential, and could be more with a few changes, but that will probably require a change of command, pun intended.

Love this place. You can shoot at 15 to 400 yards. I usually bring my targets but you can also fire at the steel targets that are placed through out the range. It's a peaceful place for range therapy

Please update your website. It seems the domain is no longer owned. Not everyone is on facebook. Ive driven to highway entrance twice only to find out then that the range is still closed. Other than that I do really enjoy this range. It just sucks its the only range close to SV. Please get more up to date online. Also your paper "calenders" arent accurate if it says your open when clearly youre not. Please. 🙄
