Siuslaw Rod & Gun Club

Q: It would be very nice if you would open at 9. 8 in the morning is too early to have to listen to people shooting guns. I hate waking up to guns in the morning.
A: ...you are one of those people who buy a home next to the train tracks, or an airport because the price is low, then protest, lobby & sue to shut them down because they dont conform to your lifestyle. Move to California, or New York..

A: A little thought/consideration does go a long way towards keeping this place open and management of the private rod & gun club knows this. Which is why there are clear rules to be followed by all members..... including the hours of operation. If someone was shooting @ 6:30am they would appreciate knowing the day it happened so they could find out who it was.

A: Well considering someone was unloading their gun at 6:30am this morning and the police department response was to call the Sheriff's office, which opens at 9, I'd say there's a problem.. by the way 'Peppermint Catsass', when you spend a lot money to live in a beautiful neighborhood not near train tracks, or an airport, its INCREDIBLY startling to wake-up to a semi-automatic weapon being unloaded twice that early in the morning.

My husband and son usually go clay shooting, but they invited me this time. As I've never gone clay shooting, I wasn't sure what to expect. The paths were well-kept and had signage indicating what path to stay on. They had huge buckets for you to place your shells in once done. There are only 12 spots, and according to my husband and son, the stations get moved around so people do not get bored shooting in the same direction. They offer other ranges, but my husband and son did clay shooting. Overall, it was fun.

If I could leave a zero I would. This place is nothing but a good ol boys club. YouΓÇÖre merely a source of funding to keep ΓÇ£theirΓÇ¥ range running. I was a member for 2 years which I obviously didnΓÇÖt renew as of January 2024. It was nothing but a ΓÇ£rules for me but not for theeΓÇ¥ mentality. Their joke of a board does a lot of things which arenΓÇÖt formally voted on and approved by the membership. That board spends money, arbitrarily imposes fictitious rules at will, they paid for and put up signs for range use with rules that were never approved or voted on yet costing money, there was a case of embezzlement which I personally feel they were apart of seeing as the police were never contacted and no legal actions were taken whatsoever. People living adjacent to this place are literally stuck or messed over due to it being the only place around and the people running this range take full advantage of this fact. Beware, this place and its leadership are more crooked than Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world.

Great, well maintained sporting clays course. Sporting clays are generally open to the public on Sundays. No gun rentals or ammo but very friendly and staff is willing to help. Reasonable membership fees if you want to use the rest of the ranges or come in outside of public hours.

Nice place to spend an afternoon here. People are friendly and the facilities are decent. Membership fee is reasonable. I would rather drive one and half hour here than going to the ranges in Eugene which are always packed with people. The farthest target is at 300 yards, just a little bit close for my AI though, lol.

MOST IMPORTANT: Nice facility and nice people. Always enjoy meeting the other shooters. People are respectful of each other and everyone is safety conscious and it seems that everyone is proud of their gun and willing to share information about it. ABOUT THE PEOPLE: My wife and I were there 02/27/18 and the rifle range was closed because law enforcement from Coos Bay was doing their long range sniper shooting. I dropped in to say hi and thank you for your service as well as ask what caliber they were shooting because it wasn't the normal pop of the 22 cal.. They were a nice group of guys and didn't hesitate to say hi or answer my questions. I found out they pay for their own scopes and equipment. That bites to say it politely. Call or check the web page for any additional activities that are special going on. Other times I have shot with law enforcement and military both active and retired and they are a fun group of people and very knowledgeable. The hunters are my favorite because they like long range which is my forte, rifle or pistol. I have also shot with a dad teaching his three girls how to shoot the 22lr as well as dads teaching their young sons 22lr and have let the youngsters shoot my AR. I love the way they light up when they hit the target at 300 yards for the first time. Impresses the heck out of all of us and makes my day, LOL im sure theirs too. Ladies, love and appreciate you the most and we need more of you. A CHANCE TO LEARN: I have been there plenty of times and taken interest in other peoples guns and some have been nice enough to let me shoot theirs to see what it feels like and I have done the same. That gave me a chance to save some money on guns that I thought I was interested in and found out after shooting them I really wasn't. It also gave me a chance to shoot a Colt Python. Ummm, sweet. I told the gentleman that I would let him know when I was starting to shoot the pistol because he said it had a really soft trigger. I said " ok, I am" and it went bang. Awwww big drool. Sharing my pistol also gave others a chance to find out that a 40 cal semi pistol doesn't kick as bad as they think it does and probably changed a few peoples minds from the 9mm. I know I have turned people onto Springfield XDM and the use of night sights rather than lasers as well as turned a few people onto the Sig Sauer P938 9mm for a backup. Ive learned a few things from others too in addition to all of us going out for ice cream when we were finished. I am grateful I have had the opportunity to help others sight in their rifle and I take joy and pride in the fact that I was able to help them after they asked me to. I think it stems from when they see me or my wife bring back our targets and all the holes seem to be in the same vicinity. I'm sure it helps. TRAINING: They have a great training course and have training for CCW. Glen and a law enforcement officer from Florence PD taught our (in class session) before going to the range to qualify. When qualifying we each had our own instructor so the class was small and reinforcement of the safety training we had just received was provided as well as information about our specific gun if needed or asked for. ABOUT ME: Honest, I am just an average citizen and very few people know me. I don't go to the meetings or attend any of the functions and I am not a board member because I don't live in Florence, but, if you are there and spot a big dude sporting a 450 power telescope on a tripod, don't hesitate to ask him to spot for you at the 200 and 300 yard rifle range because he loves it. If you need a tool or help with your rifle or pistol and I know the gun, I will gladly help you with that too. Sorry for the long post but I come from a big city and have experienced ranges in multiple states in big cities, small towns and the back woods too. It's nice to live in a small town and have that family feel. Never want to loose it or leave it.
