Soldier Pass Shooting Range

Q: Do you need high clearance to get to the range?
A: Thanks Jackson.
- Michael (a year ago)
A: No, I’ve driven there many times with my 05 Toyota Corolla. 👍 Dirt road but no high clearance needed.
- Jackson Healey (a year ago)
Q: Is this owned by someone , or is there a employee/ someone running it at all times ? Or just an open spot
A: This is a cooperative project between Utah County and the BLM. There is no employee on duty, though a BLM employee may occasionally check in on the range.

Q: 1.Anyone having trouble getting to this location with snow? (Snow chains recommended?) 2. Are shooting pumpkins, watermelon, etc., allowed? Thanks all.
A: 1. Entrance is a dirt road, no guarantees on accessibility. 2. The place was lousy with pumpkin guts last November; however, you might want to put bigger "leftovers" in the trash. 100% no one is going to be micro managing because its on public land.

A: It is. There are a handful of lanes. If one's open, it's all yours.

Q: Do you pay to go shooting here?
A: No it is a free range.
- Russell DeVoe (6 months ago)
Q: Is this area ok to throw clays?
A: I think so. There were a lot of broken clays in the range we were in.
- Steven Overson (a year ago)
Q: Are explosive targets allowed here?
A: It is illegal to use exploding targets on public lands in Utah County, which includes this location.
- Cameron Porcaro (drivec) (2 years ago)
Q: Do we need to bring our own targets or do they have some?
A: You'll have to bring your own. There are usually some cans laying around though.
- Nathaniel Otto (2 years ago)
Q: Are shotguns allowed at this range?
A: Yes.

Nothing like a free shooting range. I came mid day and was empty. I have heard that is not as good on Saturdays but that makes sense.

Found this place on Google Map and came out to check the place out. I wasn't disappointed at all. Multi lanes for pistols to long guns. Try the bathroom. Bring your own papers and sanitizer( out of stock). Only complaint is the distances.

Spacious range, a variety of lanes that can fit up to 3 groups easily.

Well maintained, toilets too. Only drawback is people will come and park in your bay while you're occupying it without asking. Im not a bench shooter so I usually need 180 degrees for drills.

CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES. Inconsiderate people leaving trash causes everyone else to suffer when the county shuts down this place and has to haul out several truckloads of trash.

Love this place. Only wish the longer shooting areas were split into two so there were more long range areas that didn't require sharing and balancing hot and cold ranges with another group.

They have lanes of different sizes and it is a popular place. We got there at about 7am and there were a few people already there. By the time we left it was pretty full and we had people needing to share lanes.

Well maintained for a free range. Also all the people we encountered were polite and knew range etiquette.

10 July 2024 First visit just to check it out today. Near the turnoff from UT68 (Redwood Rd) as you head down the gravel/dirt road, there's a sign explaining that the area is closed for target shooting. A bit of reading will tell you that it's closed *except* for the Soldier Pass Shooting Range, so don't let the initial impression fool you - the range is OPEN. The "bays" are as described elsewhere in other reviews, but a little worse for wear over time. The Jersey Barriers are good for steadying long guns, but as Rudy Chavez mentioned, some actual shooting benches would be a great addition. A roof of some kind would be fantastic on days like today with a forecast high of 101. If you want shade of any kind, bring it with you. The bays are generally well policed, although if someone brought a rake to pick up the shotgun shells and some of the broken clays, it would be a service to all mankind. There are NO trash containers there, so plan on taking out all that you bring in. Rest rooms look good from the outside - I didn't get detailed enough in my survey to check inside. Took some pictures of the bays that I may add here later if they illustrate anything new. I noticed that people have said that the shooters here are a decent sort. Eyeing the official signs for the range, both the directional ones and the large one with the longitude and latitude on it, it's clear that not all visitors fit the "decent" description. I drive pretty slowly on the dirt road to politely avoid stirring up a haboob to help others maintain the ability to breathe and perhaps make some tiny reduction in the effort required to wash their vehicle upon returning to civilization. Would sure appreciate reciprocation, folks. Why 3 stars? 4 stars once some shooting benches are added. 5 stars with a roof and concrete flatwork between the benches permitting prone shooting, and a cleaner overall experience.
