Questions & Answers

Q: What do I know to go there? What are they going to ask me for?

A: You will also need your ID, firearm, and ammo, as they do not sell ammo. The cost is $8.00. they do rent eye and ear protection for $2.00 or foam earplugs for free

- Derrick Harris (6 years ago)

A: You'll need a drivers license and $8 cash for the range fees. You will also need hearinf and eye protection, a firearm (unloaded and in a case) and ammunition. They give you some targets for free, but you can buy more, rent hearing and eye protection and more stuff like bench rests.

- Rob Young (6 years ago)

A: They're going to ask you for money to pay to go shooting. And then you're going to have to have eye protection and ear protection. They are then going to inspect your gun to make sure there's no round lodged in the barrel and it's safe. After that you go to the range they assign you a station to shoot from, and you're good to go.

- Steve Brubaker (6 years ago)

A: Yes, all above. Great Range Managers to help a new shooter too!

- Charlie Mason (6 years ago)

Q: Are .177 air rifles allowed on the range?

A: Following

- Don Reeves (a year ago)

Q: how much does it cost?

A: $8 for two hours of range time, pistol or rifle. This comes with a few free targets as well if you ask. They also rent other stuff at a pretty small cost. Hearing protection is $2, eye is the same. They also rent bench rests and stuff but I'm not sure of the price on those.

Q: Can you shoot a shotgun that does not have a shoulder stock at this range?

A: No. Stones River Gun Range is a rifle and pistol range. We allow shotguns with slugs only because hunters need a place to sight in their shotguns. We do not allow shotguns to shoot birdshot or buckshot. We do not allow guns to be shot from the hip. So you would have to hold the gun up at eye level to shoot it and that is a recipe for an accident.

- Stones River Hunter Education Center (4 years ago)

Q: Do they rent guns

A: Sorry we do not rent guns. You must have your own weapon and ammunition to use this range.

- Stones River Hunter Education Center (5 years ago)

Q: Hey are you guys open even when heavy rain is in the forecast?

A: Usually are open in wet conditions. Best to call after 9 a.m. on a Saturday before you leave.

- Fred Scott (6 years ago)

Q: I am a Tennessee resident and have frequented this range but I would like to know if I can I bring a visiting Ohio resident to this range?

A: Absolutely, we are open to the public. Look forward to seeing you.

- Stones River Hunter Education Center (3 years ago)

Q: Do you need to have as reservation for shooting lanes or is it first come first served

A: It is first come first served.

- Stones River Hunter Education Center (4 years ago)

Q: Can you use shotguns?

A: You can use a shotgun as long as it has a stock and you are shooting slugs only. You cannot shoot birdshot or buckshot.

- Stones River Hunter Education Center (6 years ago)

Q: Do they have any equipment you can barrow? I.e. rifle bags or mounts? For zeroing scopes?

A: Yes they have rifle rests or sandbags that you can rent while you are there.

- Stones River Hunter Education Center (6 years ago)

A: That I am not sure about as I only have a couple of pistols

This is a very good range and great alternative to indoor shooting, you have pistol and rifle ranges. The cost is $8 for 2 hours and dont forget to bring your own targets or you will have to purchase a five dollar pack of targets when you check in here. It is well monitored by multiple range officers safety is a priority here which is great. There are many many shooting lanes for pistol and rifle and what appears to be metal plates to shoot at with pistol although I did not get to that hopefully next time. Oh and there nice clean restrooms. Most ranges it will cost you $25 to $30 per hour so again this is a really really good alternative because of the price and shooting outdoors under nice facilities. This is a very good range and a great alternative to indoor shooting; they have pistol and rifle ranges. I have been shooting here since moving to Nashville 11 years ago. Excellent facility, and the staff is great. It's a safe, family-friendly place where everyone feels welcome. If you are a new shooter, don't hesitate to ask questions.

This is a great shooting range. It is well maintained, thoroughly organized, and manned by dedicated individuals who both promote and demand a high level of respect and enjoyment of the firearms used. When introducing friends and family to the world of firearms, or dialing in the sites on firearms, this is a great location and I recommend it.

They don't answer the phone and closed the gates well before the last sold ticket. Limited hours and they prefer not being open.

Second best thing about SRHEC: the shooter community is as it should be ,,, responsibly armed citizens, sharing of guns, bows and helping each other with gear, info, ammunition, spotting for each other, etc. First best thing ,,, the RSOs. Of course, safety first! All the RSOs are seriously vigilant, and a few of them can be a bit scolding even the first time. And they should be. If I cross the yellow line when the range is cold, I endanger myself, and need/want a big correction. If you case a gun off the bench, you endanger everyone and ought to get a correction. Learn from them, their approaches are a part of the eduction you can get here. They volunteer because they care about safety as a purpose in their lives. Most all of them are old-timers: they're experienced. First time I took my daughter shooting to begin self-defense education, I made her, not only recite the rules of safety, but also explain each one to an RSO. I positioned to take immeadiate control and the RSO was of course right on us at the bench when the range was hot AND cold. There are RSOs who are women. I've noticed they stay close to shooters who are women. Has to be intentional. Seems a woman shooter is gonna be much more learnable when it's a woman RSO giving correction and other input. SRHEC is the best outdoor range I've been to.

Nice atmosphere for all levels. The staff are "very" informative about the rules when you enter, Saftey First! Other than fighting traffic when you leave... the range is great. Photo is of the 100yd range!

Stones River hunting Education Range now has steel targets. The steel Range remains hot while in operation. It's limited to pistol calibers, no AR Pistols, or 5.7x28 but awesome place to hear that ping or shoot with a friend on the Christmas Tree!

I came with 8 of my friends to teach them how to shoot and WOW, everyone we spoke to from the check in folks, to the folks checking my rifle, to the folks out on the range were just the most welcoming, helpful, generous, and patient people you could imagine. Thank you all for going out of your way to make this first experience for some newbie women shooters incredibly positive! We all had the best time and I'll certainly be back (and I have a feeling some of them will be back, as well!).

I've shot there many times, but I took my soon-to-be 9-year-old out there today to shoot the rifle my dad got me when I was 11. He had a ball, and did ... not too shabby for a first outing. :-)

I really enjoy my time and I know IΓÇÖm giving back to the community and conservation with my 8 dollar donation . Also you can rent rifle bags and sleds . You can also purchase targets . Now this is the place you want to go to if you want to shoot your rifle or pistol. The range safety officers are always there to help you if your gun jams or to make positive corrections in your approach. Tom The chief range safety officer practically knows every single gun ever made in the world and is always available to answer any questions you have on any gun you own or want to own. He's the best you could ask for! It's open to the public on Friday Saturday and Sundays. The grounds and the bathrooms are always kept clean.. you do have to pick up your shells after shooting and put in the bins provided. They're always looking for new RSOs if you think you'd like to work one two or three days on the weekends there they're very flexible and even though it's volunteer you would get to shoot for free before it opens. All ages are welcome including children with supervision. A very safe place and lots of parking! I highly recommend it!

Haven't been here in a while but staff is always friendly and helpful. Met Ray today 6/14, he gave me and my cousin great tips on how to hold the pistols. I will definitely remember to use them each time I go to the range to be a better shot. Thank again, Ray! Go Navy, Beat Army!!

I've always liked this range but my wife and I just had the best experience I've ever had there! Stan (I think that was his name) checked in our guns and was just a fun relaxed guy! I was there to zero in my red dot on my new and first AR. RSO Ken was such a big help and saved me a lot of time and ammo!! It was like I had my own personal AR trainer! He as o helpful, fun and kind!! Thanks Ken!! And then we hopped over to the pistol range where RSO Ray was working! He spotted a couple negative things in our shooting and asked us if we'd be open to some help! Who wouldn't? He gave us some great advise and tips to help us both!! Thanks Ray!

Friendly staff and a great price. Can be a bit busy at the start of hunting season. The hours are pretty restricted but I think that is because all the RSOs are volunteers. A couple of the RSOs are a bit fuddy but most are just friendly and helpful if you ask them.

What an amazing, quality customer service establishment !!!! I would like to thank Gordan, Kyle, Scott and Jim for their kind and quality introduction to this place. Jim's situational awareness was top notch. While I was firing my rifle, he noticed my magazine was rubbing against the table and immediately suggested I use a sand bag (which they also provide for free). I am super glad I visited here and when back in town, this will be my go to range. Thank you fine gentlemen and God bless ya'll.

A great facility that is properly run by great, knowledgeable people. I canΓÇÖt recommend this place enough whether you are experienced or a novice. There is no judgement here, and everyone is willing to explain anything you may want to learn. IΓÇÖve never been to a range quite like this and I canΓÇÖt wait to get back there.

Excellent place to practice and learn! The range officer Steve even helped my friends when they were first learning how to shoot a pistol. Honestly for the price this is a STEAL of a deal! 100% the place I will be going to from now on! Also make sure to bring cash as they do not have a atm on premises

"Unpleasantly Overbearing" My recent visit to this gun range left much to be desired. The emphasis on safety was overwhelming, with range officers seemingly more concerned with surveillance than creating a welcoming environment. The constant monitoring made the experience uncomfortable, and finding a spot to stand and shoot was surprisingly challenging. Additionally, the range officers, often consisting of retired individuals, that tended to engage in conversations, making it difficult to focus on shooting. Even basic tasks like using the facilities felt intrusive, as I couldn't even take a break without feeling watched. If you value a more laid-back atmosphere, this range might not align with your expectations.
