Sumac WMA Shooting Range

Q: What do you need to enter there? Never been to a range before. 1st time nerves...lol
A: Highly recommend you go to a good indoor range with a Range Safety Officer. The public ranges are variable in attendance, and you get mostly respectful, safe people. But, they are public...
- Ira Chandler (5 years ago)
A: Its almost like shooting in the forest but they built benches etc.. Be respectful and mindful but yeah you're pretty much out there on your own. But just like the other guy commented, he's dead on.. $5 per person, bring all your own stuff, etc. etc.
- Harry Hibner (5 years ago)
A: $5.00 for the day per car. The range has 25, 50, and 100 yard target stations. Pay upon entering and place a hangtag on your dash or rearview mirror. READ and FOLLOW the rules that are posted. It is a unsupervised public access range. You will encounter shooters of all skill levels. If you need help ask the other shooters you may very well make great new friends in the process. Make sure you have eye and ear protection. You will need to provide your own targets. The little store on 411 near the range usually has some. Clean up your trash including targets when you leave. Take some bug spray.

Always a nice place to go shooting. The shooting benches are pretty decent and distances are marked.

Range was empty but it was clean of trash and had dedicated lanes for 10 25 50 and 100 yards. The gravel road was kinda rough if your not in a truck.

Very small, too many people grass is not kept Cut. First time there had to turn around and leave so I could make payment because you get no service there. And you can't pay cash And the people that check on you to make sure payments are made are Very rude and do not deserve their job. I would not recommend going there.

For the size and what it is, it's perfect for sighting in or just blowing off some steam. It is a small range, so pick up after yourselves. Keep it beautiful

Great range, it is very crowded every time I go, but the people are nice and courteous. The pay system is weird, but reasonable.

Decent range, bring some clips/zip ties with you to hang your target. Without an rso it is obviously very laid back, just be sure to police your own and watch other shooters. Got flagged twice, nice and secluded range.

This shooting range is very clean and very remote. Just to give you a heads-up you have to pay online to the Georgia wildlife conservation and it's $5 per day

I have been using this range since 1998. The USFS does great job keeping it up and clean. It's a shame some users won't pick up after themselves. Also to those that cause damage, what's your problem? Your part of the reason good places are going a way. Grow up.

Great little secluded range. Only downside is when we went it was pretty messy, casings and targets everywhere. Someone shot a hole through the door of the womens restroom so watch out for that, ladies.

They've made some upgrades to the range. I was this there yesterday they've done a nice job of bringing it in to 10 yd 25 yd 50 yd and a 100 yd. Still have that same safety problem with people handling and clearing their weapons while other people are down range changing targets. Be aware. I was just there yesterday and had a yell at some dumb kid, had to be prior service, clearing his weapon while there was 5 or 6 people down range. I wish everybody wouldn't have shot the trash cans up so we still had some place to put all our garbage.

Nice range, nice tables and well kept.i wish they still had the tags so you can pay when you get there, but you cant.you have to go to recreation. Gov and go thru the app ,and pay in advance.and I try to goduring the week bc it gets crowed on the weekend, and I get nervous around shooters I don't know, that may or may not be as crazy about firearm safety as myself and family. Has 25 ,50 ,and 100 yard ranges with tables, but paper targets only, and you need to take some clothespins or paperclips to hang your targets.and then take them home with you,I always take the leftover targets with me to throw away,so everyone needs to learn to throw there targets away, I'm sure the GA dnr gets tired of doing it for everyone.

Meh 😕 didn't get turned off by the simplicity, but by the lack of ANY upkeep and ANY supervision. Nevermind the dirty looks bc I am from an ethnic minority and was there with other two of different minorities.

Outstanding public range, $5 for parking all day. Early in the morning oftentimes I'll be the only one out there- later in the afternoon there are a few people, but it's almost never over crowded. The only thing you have to worry about is people not following range safety (and sometimes gun safety) rules- there are no RSO's, so you have to police yourself and watch out for the people around you. Other than that, great place to shoot for cheap!
