Questions & Answers

Q: What in the hell has happened to Swan Creek management fields full of corn , none for opening day . This a bit last time I spent $22 for nothing. Whoever's managing these fields needs to do their job. Absolutely ridiculous. No rain for a month.

A: That's not the range you potato. And you don't pay 22 to shoot at swan. Any hunting or fishing license (or the WMA Herritage to support wildlife conservation which is only 15 dollars) is good for a year. Troll harder.

It was disgusting! On 10/11/24, I made plans at work for the entire day to shoot in the evening. I got ready and arrived at 4:50 PM, but they were already closed!

Nice clean range, sign in with the Range Officer, must show your Hunting/fishing/WMA license. Brooms and dustpans to clean up provided. Nice concrete shooting tables. Bins for brass. We were there on a Fall Sunday morning, not too busy. Its loud so put on your ears before you get out of the truck. Way better than any indoor range where you have to pay. I saw one porta potty. Bring some baby wipes to clean your hands before you get back in the truck. No water on site that I saw. We will definitely be back. Oh and Google Maps says its on the left but it is clearly marked on the right coming up the road from Highway 31.

Now that the Alabama Wildlife Commission has begun manning the range and providing targets and helpful supervision, this is a great place to practice the craft of marksmanship. Worth the drive!

This shooting range is great! It is a lot better and safer than it use to be. They have a 25, 50, and 100 yard range with adjustable target stands for each bay.

IΓÇÖve been going to this range since I was a little boy & it has seen some MAJOR changes over the years. It used to be more of a Wild West type thing/dumpster fire before Covid hit - then they went with extreme rules & I did not come back until 2024. I am actually SUPER impressed with the latest layout & total experience. There is a full time RO now with what looks like a backup officer as well. Current RO is way more relaxed than the COVID guy. The range is now clean & MUST be kept that way. It looks like there is a basic restroom too. Will be back!!!

Great spot to shoot as they have various lanes at different distances for pistols, rifles, and shotguns. Always clean and range officers are friendly, informative and attentive but not overly policing. Backer board and staple guns are available you just bring ammo, firearm and paper targets or clays. They sometimes have ranges reserved for competition or classes and may be crowded but otherwise you usually can get a lane. Lately alot of inexperienced and young shooters are visiting and often share a lane and gun which tends to make some visits sketchy. Overall it's as safe as a firing range can be. You must stay aware of your surroundings, practice good gun safety, communicate with other shooters and clean up after yourself.

So much better now that it's staffed. They've also improved the range quite a bit, adding brooms and dustpans, stands for your paper targets, steel plates, and clay pigeon throwers. Truly a different place than it was for the last 30 years.

This range used to be great aside from a few crazies. It used to be open 7 days a week and no one was in your business. Then the state decided it has to be manned and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The RSOs are aggressive, rude, and highly condescending. They have nothing better to do but to make up rules and aggressively bark orders. While I was shooting, there was an RSO creepily standing 3 feet behind me and would rudely critique me. There is a rule stating that you cannot handle firearms while the range is cold, so what does the RSO do? They fiddled with my guns while I was downrange and claimed they are making sure my guns are locked back and unloaded. So much for being a Range "Safety" Officer. Not only are the RSOs unpleasant, but the other shooters are also unpleasant and whiny as well. A shooter next to me made a complaint to the RSO that my gun was "too loud". Too loud on a gun range!? That's ridiculous. So what does the RSO do? Rudely suggest I shoot a smaller caliber. I thought the crazies would be gone, but no the crazies got replaced by crazies with authority. This is all the epitome of what happens when the state starts running things.

RSO gestapo! ItΓÇÖs clear the RSOs get off on this being the only place in their life they can exercise authority and boy do they abuse it. We were having no issue communicating with the other people visiting but these guys rode around on a side by side the entire time we were there, and would occasionally stop and just watch and stare at you. We came here to be able to safely and freely sight in a few guns but these guys were so overbearing we couldnΓÇÖt enjoy ourselves. First they said something about ΓÇ£handling a gunΓÇ¥ while the range was cold, because I was loading a rimfire marlin .22 while everyone was back at their bench with nobody downrange. Total power trip. Next they said, when again nobody was downrange and we were on the 100 yard range with one other person, and having no issue with him either, to lock my bolt action open so they could see it was safe, and we were multiple feet away from the gun. Nobody even close to touching it. And itΓÇÖs not what they said even because I fully get everyone needing to be safe. But the condescending tone used in all interactions was too much. We donΓÇÖt need to be babysat. Immediately after the bolt comment, while we had called it cold between us two, they came over and were handling the other gentlemanΓÇÖs firearm before conferring with us. Absolutely ridiculous. At least be consistent. Would also advise to be careful taking women or children. The amount of time it seems the 2 RSO losers stopped behind us and stared at my wife or creepily stared at our daughter, is a whole other issue entirely. Maybe thatΓÇÖs why they wanted to come around us so much. Dude needs to learn how to behave and communicate better. What a shame

Well kept range. Now that there is a management presence the crazies have gone away. Just wish there was a 200 yard range.

Love the addition of the steel plates at all yardages. Makes it a bit easier to get some quick shots off while still ensuring youΓÇÖre semi-accurate. Also, the RSOs are great as long as youΓÇÖre being safe and following the rules.
