Tobyhanna State Game Lands Shooting Range

Q: Why is it so difficult for everyone to read the shooting range regs to get the answers to these blatantly lazy questions? Its so insanely simple to search and acquire the info i dont think pa could make it any easier for us.
A: Idk....maybe it's like asking why some ppl can't be more welcoming and understanding to others who may be new to firearms or even new to public ranges. I guess we'll never know.

A: But we have google and literally luke keith said, the rules are clearly written out. If I'm not familiar with something, I look up my info. I was new to hunting on pa state game lands. But I drove around and .are a purpose to look for signs to read and googled the heck out of it in any way I can word it to find info.

Q: Does anyone know who we can speak to about possibly making some awnings /Partitions for rain and days where sun is very hot? I would definitely donate for something like that.
A: Range is under game commission control

Q: What is the limit for clip capacity? I just got a 100 round drum for my AR 15 and I will be up that part of the state in 2 weeks. Can I fill my drum up and empty it? Does anyone have a link to Tobyhanna rules? TIA
A: No more than six rounds in the magazine at any time
- Jay (4 years ago)
A: Spoke to game warden and he explained it is 6 round limit at any time. 3 shots at time pause next three shots then mag change. This is done to avoid any public panic as well as help respect neighboring shooters next to you.
- Juan Rosario (3 years ago)
A: IΓÇÖm pretty sure itΓÇÖs three rounds per mag long gun six for hand gun
- Jason Hojo (4 years ago)
A: Thats pretty trash rules

A: thankyou
- george kooistra (6 years ago)
Q: Can you shoot shotguns here?
A: Yes, only slugs though, not bird, not buck or any other multiple-projectile rounds
- Michael Sour (3 years ago)
Q: are u allowed guests?7
A: Permit holder can bring one guest
- Taroleaf224fsb R (3 years ago)
Q: No appointments are needed but you need a permit or hunting license to use the range, did I read the website wrong though about each permit or licensed person being allowed one guest? If so, the guest doesn't need said permit/license?
A: That's correct... You can bring one guest to shoot and that guest doesn't need any license or permit. The license btw would be a PA hunting license and the permit would be a PA public range use permit.
- Harry Mann (3 years ago)
Q: Is this range for licensed shooters only? Do they offer training
A: Permit required
- Taroleaf224fsb R (3 years ago)

This is a great state range, please be aware that you need a permit or a hunting license to use this range. Permit or hunting/feur taker license for Pennsylvania requiring to use this range. Please be aware of your surroundings at all times and be safe. If you are bringing anyone here, please teach them gun safety first. Accidents happen because people are not respectful.

Recently upgraded to covered shooting area. New Target frames. I donΓÇÖt think you can ask for more for a public range for $30 or so a year permit.

I drove here from an hour away only to find that it has been closed since 4/8/24 for renovation. I saw that they now added some improvements(roof over shooting area) which is great. However it sucks that they didn't report the temporary closure to Google. Honestly, even if I knew about the closure I would have assumed they would be done by now.

After being told that the range was open by somebody from the PGC. I proceeded to go there to shoot today and lo and behold. ItΓÇÖs closed.. the pavilions and shooting stations are done. I donΓÇÖt know why theyΓÇÖre not opening the range, but itΓÇÖs shooting season.

Range is alright. There was no covers and the targets were always breaking apart. However they are fixing the range now so maybe itΓÇÖll be better. Never super crowded which is a plus.

The range spacing is ok for outdoor use however it can be a lot better if visitors can follow rules and if this location can have signage with rule and conduct also garbage bins available.

Great spot to shoot. There's a handgun side and a rifle side. Although some people don't flow these settings.

Basic place, show up and shoot, gets the job done. There is no overhead cover though so if you come on a rainy day don't expect to stay dry. Also, berms are starting to get a little low in my opinion.
