Weldon Spring Conservation Area
Natural area with forests & fields, hiking trails & a boat ramp on the Missouri River.

Q: Are there any natural springs to drink from here?
A: No. The Missouri River and that is not drinkable.
- Charlie keeven (3 years ago)
Q: can you swim in the river?
A: As far as I know, it's not against the rules but it's a bad idea. I don't like swimming in rivers like the Missouri because you never know what kind of under currents there are.
- Chase Lehmann (4 years ago)
A: The trail does not connect to the river. There is a small creek it traverses but this time of year it is mostly dried up.
- Eric D. Jenkins (4 years ago)
Q: Is this managed hunting only , or can you hunt whenever
A: The currently allowed animals as of June 2020 are Deer, Turkey, Dove, Rabbit, and Squirrel. As long as the season of the animal you are hunting is open, you are allowed to hunt it in this Conservation Area.
- Chase Lehmann (4 years ago)
A: Deer are managed hunts only. Have hunted dove and quail there.
- Bradley Barnes (5 years ago)
Q: Is there any clean clear spring fed type creeks in this park to creek walk, wade, or swim in, that is easily accessible from the hiking trails, like how it is at Castlewood?
A: I've not seen any.
- Logan Schoch (5 years ago)
A: Nothing like that.
- Richard Raaf (5 years ago)
A: I do not believe you are allowed to swim there
- chris eggleston (5 years ago)
Q: What are the hours you can fish here. Can you night fish?
A: Sundown is closing time.
- edward jandreau (5 years ago)
A: I believe they close everything at sundown.
- Richard Raaf (5 years ago)
Q: Where's the best place to fish the Mo.River from?
A: Ideally, with a boat off of the fish and wildlife service islands near Confluence point.
- Charles Spitler (5 years ago)
A: No clue
- Sheila Case (5 years ago)
A: Yes
- Lige Williams (5 years ago)
Q: where can I see the bluffs
A: The Lewis and Clark trail approximately 1.5 miles in
- Andrew Jayne (5 years ago)
A: About 1.5 miles or so on the Clark trail
- Charles Spitler (5 years ago)
Q: Can you squirrel hunt in Weldon Springs?
A: Squirrel hunting is allowed here. I've been going for the past week or so since Howell Island is inaccessible due to the river being too high.
- Chase Lehmann (4 years ago)
A: You would want to probably give them a call during the week to verify but I'm pretty sure yes to the squirrel hunting but I'm pretty sure you cannot go with any single projectile firearms meaning you can only go with shotguns but you can definitely give them a call or check it out online to verify what the regulations are. https://mdc.mo.gov/

Q: Can you camp here?
A: Camping is not permitted in any conservation, you can day hike the area though. Of course no fires but backpacking stove's are allowed if you want to cook food or a heat a drink. I suggest you check out the ALLTRAILS app which can let you see other trails nearby where your allowed to do some backpacking/ dispersed camping/stealth camping whatever you wish to call it. Also inside any National Park you can camp off trail almost anywhere as long as 100 feet away from trail, parking, paid campsites and/or water sources. Not to mention inside national parks its legal to collect wood and have campfires{Free Wood). Where most state parks and areas you can possibly get away with it but technically isn't permitted and may cause a meet with a ranger and maybe along with fine. So do some research because in my opinion if you had to ask that question you probably shouldn't be in the woods overnight alone anyways. P.S. - Google Maps can not function the same as Google Search
- Vincent Scalise (Vinny) (5 years ago)
A: No camping in Missouri conservation areas
- Rob Caraccio (6 years ago)
A: You cannot. There is a park nearby that you can.
- SMN (6 years ago)
A: Day camp
- Itsrichay (6 years ago)
A: Pretty sure you can't camp here.
- Paul Fritz (6 years ago)
Q: Any snakes to photograph here?? Especially rattlesnakes??
A: Dang they used to be there
- Aidan Cordell (6 years ago)
A: I see snakes frequently, but never a rattler.
- Paul Whitten (6 years ago)
A: I have not seen a rattlesnake there in the last ten plus years
- George Stodola (6 years ago)
A: There no rattlesnake!
- Detailedstream 1991 (6 years ago)
A: Not sure, but they should be easy to spot. They probably glow in the dark like everything else out there.

What an awesome place to take pictures! I came to photograph birds on the sunflowers but have also done portrait photos here, too. I love that this is open to the public.

This is a big place! It is split up by Highway 94, and Google has the east part listed as Weldon Spring Hollow Conservation Area. In this part of the area, we found a parking lot near the Katy Trail with a stop-off and restrooms for bicyclists. Also there is a boat ramp to access the Missouri River, and you can access the Hamburg Trail as well. It wasn't clear from the map on their website that Highway 94 runs through the middle of the park, but we stopped off at the Visitors Center at Busch Wildlife Area and found a better map there.

I love running the trails here. Great views from the bluffs overlooking the river. Lack of restrooms is a minus.

Nice trails, relatively quiet although it is close to the road. People were fishing, hiking, walking, enjoying nature. We went at night to see a bird that only comes out at night.

We visited Weldon Spring for the first time today and walked a couple of trails. The trail surfaces were generally good, though they clearly were very muddy a few days ago.

ItΓÇÖs good if youΓÇÖre going to do the exercise in shooting but for a hike, it has a lot to be desired. I donΓÇÖt think itΓÇÖs quite finished yet. Maybe thatΓÇÖs it

A truly great place. You experience a hardwood deciduous forest as you hike to bluffs that over look the Missouri river.
