Westside Rifle & Pistol Range

Q: what if i do nt have a permit and just want to go to the range will that be possible?
A: Yes but you are restricted to a .22 rifle. NYC laws are pretty restrictive. Interested in handguns or assault type weapons? Not in NYC, but the really good news is that is available in New Jersey! So locate a range nearest you, head on out, if that is your flavor. In either case, range employees are very accommodating and helpful. It is their business after all. If I didn't answer your question, feel free to pick up the phone. Have a wonderful day! 🌻

A: Yes but you are restricted to a .22 rifle. If you're looking to shoot pistols, rifles, shotguns and the BARRETT 50 BMG head to Gun For Hire. I went there based off of their reviews and the selection is pretty impressive. Not to far from NYC just grab an Uber.

Q: What's the minimum age to go shoot in the range?
A: I have been to the range, but spoke on the phone, you have to go on their website, and fill out a form for a background check, the guy on the phone said it takes about 24 hours, on the confirmation email it says 48-72 hours for approval. Took me between 30-40 hours for approval.

A: 18 but there are some restrictions you can only shoot long neck rifle.

Q: Hey, im from Germany and would like to shoot in the range. How much costs it, what do i need to shoot in the range? :)
A: Valentin has answered your question completely and accurately. NYC is strict, rest assured the staff is very helpful and friendly. It is a fun activity to take part in. If you would like to fire a handgun, or higher calibre assault type rifle, would recommend an excursion to Pennslyvania where it is allowed. It is about an hours drive away, well worth the trip, if that is what your really looking for. Would call ahead to reserve a spot, answer any questions you might have. Enjoy your time in America. 🌻
- Richie Rich (6 years ago)
A: You will need an ID most likely your passport and to fill out the paperwork to shoot there for the day. You will only be able to shoot a .22 caliber rifle since NYC has some very strict gun laws. Below is the information for the Fee: $75.00 Above fee will provide you with: Instruction from an NRA certified Range Safety Officer Ruger 10/22 semi-automatic rifle 50 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition Targets During your first visit you are required to take a safety course in the classroom and have an instructor on the firing line with you. Return visits past 3 months of your last visit require you to attend a refresher course. If you want to do anything else like a pistol, shotgun or a different kind of rifle I recommend going to NJ on a day trip.

Q: How much would it cost me for two people?
A: How much would it cost me for two
- Joe Hernandez (6 years ago)
A: To rifle's at Westside, you need to call in advance and give them your information, or go to the website to fill out the questionnaire because although you don't need a permit to shoot rifles there, by local NYC law you have to go through a NYPD background check. The price is $75.00 for a mandatory safety class be you're allowed to actually shoot. Then they chain the rifle in the firing lane so you can shoot. Handguns on the hand you need a NYC handgun permit, New York and all the rest of states permits are not recognized. Law enforcement is an exception.

Q: Can my son shot? He is 12
A: NYS has very restrictive gun laws. In NYC, more so, no one without a pistol permit can handle a handgun. Westside does allow people to take a short safety course and fire a .22 rifle that you can rent at the range. You should call them directly to ask about pricing, age and any other restrictions. The staff is very friendly. If your interested in firing handguns and assorted rifles of larger caliber, best to take a trip into Penn. the nearest state which allows it. Again, you should call ahead to find out any restrictions they might currently have. Please understand that gun laws vary greatly from state to state, and change often.

A: No

A: Not in NYC. Most ranges have it at 13 years old outside of nyc. In nyc its 18 before you can do anything fun related.

A: For new York city correction officers what do I need to bring?
- Lisa Jon (5 years ago)
A: Not sure but you can go into range and speak with anyine of the gentlemen there that can assist
- Debra Waller (7 years ago)
Q: Do I need to have a gun permit to shoot?
A: You need a gun permit to shoot pistols. If you pass a background check and after you take a safety class you can shoot a 10/22 rifle. Call the range for details
- Michael Sanchez (7 years ago)
A: Yes. NYC doesn't allow anyone without a permit to handle a handgun. You are allowed to rent and fire a .22 rifle after a basic safety course.
- Richie Rich (6 years ago)
Q: Can I get a permit thru this place ?
A: They have a guy that will do it for a pretty high fee. He doesn't work for them, but he leaves referral cards at the cashier window. The process has become streamlined by the city's online application site. Getting a target permit is pretty easy. However, to get a concealed carry, the city still makes it a long and grueling process. I think there are some private security agencies that assist you in getting an armed guard permit. If I was trying to get one, that would probably be the way I would go.

Q: My 16 year old son could fire a gun?
A: NYC is notoriously restrictive when it comes to firearms. That said you can take your son to NJ where he could fire pistols or rifles at any range.

Horrible service, I called and asked if they did trigger changes, they said yes they had a licensed gunsmith on the premise and that my process should take 45 minutes to an hour. After waiting 4 hours, the so called gunsmith told me he need more time with it. 3 weeks later I called them and he said h3 couldn't figure it out and had to send it to the company. 3 more weeks later I call3d again, first the owner lied and said it wasn't back yet. I called th3 company and they said the owner signed for it. When I went to pick it up it still wasn't fixed the way I asked them to. Never again will I waste 6 weeks for nothing.

I went for a Utah license carry conceal class. Glenn was a cool instructor. The facility itself I mean for a range in nyc we have to get what we can take. However there was mass confusion. I asked two different people would I be able to shoot at the range as a non member but I have an NYC license. one guy told me yes, one told me no. Some clarity is definitely needed. I would love to come there and not commit to a membership it would be a bit more convenient on the weekends.

Westside Rifle & Pistol Range is always a bustling spot, but the experience is well worth it. Purchasing my first handgun here was a smooth and straightforward process, thanks to a professional team and their guidance. The range itself is well-maintained and provides a great environment for both beginners and seasoned shooters. It's clear that they've done a fantastic job fostering a welcoming community of gun enthusiasts in New York City.

It was really hard even getting in contact with their instructors to book with them. I had to call 3 times and they were rude when I finally got through. Not that that probably matters to them, theyΓÇÖre plenty busy with their police clients apparently

Another hidden gem. Both the cloture of the crowd, but also the service. Very rare to see people who care to sell you the best product, and very fair market price, without pushing ad ons. You really get an honest professional advice from Johnson, Larry, Eddie and Daren - the few I got to interact with as a newcomer. The coffee is running, and IΓÇÖm soon going to get my personalized coffee mug and a locker. As a new shooter, you can seek advice from old timers, police officers and professional with a positive, friendly manner. Highly recommend to visit the place. It is the only (real) gun range in Manhattan.

I was in a class with Westside back in 2006 and there was a trainer that everyone knew as "Chop." He was a police officer and a cool guy. Whatever questions I needed answered, he made sure that I knew whatever I needed to know

Achtung: Touristen dürfen in New York nicht ohne Weiteres an einem Schießstand schießen. Die Mitarbeiter hier waren aber sehr freundlich. Sie haben uns direkt an einen Schießstand in New Jersey weitergeleitet, da in New Jersey andere Gesetze gelten. Als Tourist macht ihr euch also am besten auf den Weg zu Long Shot Pistol and Rifle. Wenn ihr keine Touristen seid, seid ihr hier aber auch bestens aufgehoben!

This place is great, some of the nicest guys around. From the first time I called just trying to get basic info to my first lesson with Johnson today it's all been awesome. I'm a total newbie and John and Johnson have both been very patient with me and helpful. I especially want to thank Johnson for really taking his time to teach me. If you're looking for a range in the city this is the place to go!

You can rent legally of course. Excellent. It's 2024, I think I wrote this post 5 years ago. This place is a golden gem in New York city. It's literally my first time shooting a gun. One of the best things I ever done in my entire life. Don't let this place shut down. Thank you Westside Rifle and Pistol Range!

I recently purchased a handgun and assorted accessories, as well as took the 47-hour armed guard class. I can't say enough positive things about my experience at Westside Rifle & Pistol Range. From John at the front desk, with exceptional customer service skills and friendliness; to Mr. Johnson, who is omniscient when it comes to guns, ammo, sights, gun laws, etc); to Julio De Leon-fire arms instructor extraordinaire. It was an outstanding experience! I highly recommend Westside Rifle & Pistol to any new or seasoned gun enthusiast.
