Questions & Answers

Q: Does this place do hunters safety course if so how much is it

A: If needed, sign up at hunter-ed.com and do the online course for Louisiana. Then you can look at the links for the next classes on the La. Dept of W&F site under education and Hunter Safety. They are all over the state, not just at Woodworth. HTH.

- Andy Smothers (6 years ago)

A: The 10 hr classroom courses are posted to https://register-ed.com/programs/louisiana/9-louisiana-hunter-education-classroom-course/agency:9 as Andy mentioned they are all over Louisiana. Also the class is 100% free. If you do a field day, you have to pay $17.95 for the online course. The online course https://www.hunter-ed.com/louisiana/ only charges you after you pass, but the department does not recommend this course for anyone younger than 14 years old. The field day still requires you to sign up for a 4 to 6 hr class https://register-ed.com/programs/louisiana/19-louisiana-hunter-education-field-day/agency:9 where the student demonstrates knowledge such as safe firearm handling and tree stand safety. Students are also required to take amd pass a 50 question true false test. The teachers also review some of the more important sections and make you watch some outdated hunting safety videos from the 80's.

Q: How much do it cost to use the range

A: Nothing for the rifle or pistol range. Best public range i have used. Just sign in, follow the rules and have fun. Ear protection, targets, stands, rifle rests, brass catchers and even staplers are free to use. No rapid fire. Respect the range, the officers and your fellow shooters. Small charge for round of clays if using the shotgun range. Hope this helps...

- Andy Smothers (6 years ago)

A: Rifle and pistol ranges are free. 5-stand range for shotguns is 5$ per 25 skeet. Hearing protection, target stands, staples, targets, and skeet are all provided. They also provide magnets and brass pickers to pick up all the shells and brass after.

- K R (3 years ago)

A: Its free.

- Lonnie Dufour (6 years ago)

A: Free! Limit on free targets

- Barney L Brady (6 years ago)

Q: Would like to sight in my PCP(pre charged pneumatic .25caliber Air rifle. Can I use this facility for this ?

A: Should be OK I've seen a .50 cal Barrett fired there.

- Barney L Brady (5 years ago)

A: I have seen people sighting in the air rifles at the range before. The lead pellet is not significantly different from a small caliber bullet in projectile make-up, so I don't anticipate a problem. Just follow range rules for the firearm.

- Swete Rollo (5 years ago)

A: The best most friendliest range ever. Usually there is WLFM agents on hand to answer any questions and to enforce the safety rules. Great people

- Richard Lemire (11 months ago)

A: Of course. Just observe standard gun safety fundamentals and all range officer rules and regulations.

- Andy Smothers (5 years ago)

A: Yes

- Casey Morrisette (5 years ago)

Q: Can we come here and try out some guns?

A: Try out your own guns?

- Andy Smothers (5 years ago)

A: Yes. You will need to sign in and respect the range rules and officer, of course. Otherwise, it is free.

- Swete Rollo (5 years ago)

Q: Can we come here and try out some guns?

A: They do not have any guns for the public to shoot, you'll have to bring your own.

- Randy Goodwin (5 years ago)

Q: Does this place offer concealed permits & if so how much & what is the process?

A: LDWF does not offer any concealed carry classes. However there are two private teachers that use the Woodworth classroom once a month to teach concealed carry classes. Please call 318-484-2212 and leave us a message with your name, number, and reason for calling to receive more information.

- Woodworth Shooting range (5 years ago)

A: Nope. Just a shooting range. You can take a CCP class locally and then apply in BR.

If you want to shoot a shotgun forget about it. Have to schedule an appointment and only on Thursdays and Sundays at 8 AM. Website doesn't have this accurately posted. Attendants are volunteers, so they're either very pleasant or on a condescending power trip depending on which you get. It's decent for what it is. Weird rules since they rebuilt it. Bring eye wear, because they'll lecture you otherwise, only to provide you some free of charge.

It's OK. If there are a lot of people shooting, it is not as fun if a few people are there. You have to stop what you are doing every time someone wants to change their target.

If you want to do clay shooting here, good luck. Better call and leave a message and make sure they call back for you to set up an appointment, cause they wonΓÇÖt answer the phone. Website is wrong on clay shooting times, so beware of that.

Hard to do anything here b4. Bad hours. Was turned away twice within shooting hours. Absolutely hated this service. I give it 2 stars only because it looks like they are improving and may make this more accessible. I got run off one time because no one wanted to wait 15 minutes.

Would have given it 5 stars, but the instructor made a comment saying he woshed he could ban police officers from the range, due to them not picking up their brass

Fantastic facility. Beautifully laid out with really well equipped services for shotgun, rifle, handgun and archery ranges. Easy to get in and back out to the main road. Also within close distance to the local trapping supply store.

By far the cleanest and best run range I have ever been to. I have even shot at some private ranges that were not this nice. The range officers are all volunteers, but are very knowledgeable and nice. The rifle range is from 25 to 100 yards. I have never been there when the grass wasn't cut or wasn't presentable.

Awesome place. Had some guys out there with alot of knowledge to help me out and explain the rules. They had paper targets, glasses and ear plugs on site. Also 2 separate ranges, one for rifles on the left and one for handguns on the right.

By far the nicest firing range I have ever been to. The fact that itΓÇÖs free boggles my mind because IΓÇÖve paid memberships to ranges that werenΓÇÖt HALF the quality of this range. This is the only place I go to shoot and will continue to go as long as I have a gun, ammo, and the desire to improve.

Pistol Range -- Pro: Clean and hassle-free place to practice. Free targets and ear plugs. Safe and well-thought-out firing line. Con: Didn't see the 'free eye protection.' Not much in the way of target setup instructions for first-time visitors, but you can figure it out easily enough. Website wasn't clear about hours so we made a trip one day to meet a barred gate.

Amazing experience. First visit today with my son and we were treated like old friends. Range officer Jeremy spent over an hour between rounds helping me with sighting one of my rifles and was courteous, respectful, informative and professional. This facility is super clean and safe. Range also provides complimentary targets, brass catchers, rests and sight scopes. Been shooting for over 30 years and positively the best outdoor range experience I have experienced. A++++++

Visited the range today for the first time to sight-in my scope on my new Browning BAR . I was a qualified Range Officer while serving in the U. S. Navy and i must say this range is way beyond the best ranges we had. This range provides covered (shaded) shooting stations for left or right handed shooters, shooting rests, sand bags, target stands, paper targets, staple guns, staples, hearing protection, eye protection, fans, cold water fountains, clean bathrooms... To get these types of amenaties, one would normally have to join a shooting club but here in central Louisiana its FREE...that's right FREE to the public! Naturally you have to adhere to normal safety precaution while utilizing the range. Thank you Louisiana Departement of Wildlife and Fisheries for providing this service! You definately got this one right!
